  • Brian May ruled. No metter what they say...

  • That was our heavy metal music in the 70.s. They still sound good. Bravo!!! Paul and Queen.

  • Really Kids!!! All this arguing about who is best! If u asked either of those guys they would not dare to have an opinion other than to defer to the other players greatness! When u get to the level of these guys there is no 'Best, or 'Greatest', they r all awesome and deserve more respect than to have no-nothing dweebs arguing about them. These players r all masters. Just enjoy it and appreciate the contributions they have made to rock. All Hail Paul 'The King' Rodgers and Queen!

  • @micko11154 ... Well said... ' These players r all masters .. Just enjoy ' I agree, in fact that is exactly the name by which I call Mr Paul Rodgers .. The Master !

  • I love paul kossoff! I think briza did really well as a musician in playing like koss and himself at the same time! It wasn't a rip off of koss, but a nice tip of the hat to him!

  • Too fast,....just my opinion.

  • (La creme de la creme). They are good talented artists. Nice to watch them perform cause I can see the glow in their eyes. They sang those songs for 40 years. These bands are legends and they are not falling all over the place. Nice to watch all grown men and women in the field of music. Mellisa Etheridge is phoenamenal! She sings a Free song "Alwright Now"

  • Nice. The Free Classic!!

  • hot song and a hot guy

  • I saw similar concert in Kharkiv (Ukraine) in 2008. This was great! Great mix from Queen and Free/BC. I liked it. Thnx to NaughtonSimao for video. Cheer!

  • May has the most memorable and Unique guitar sound in the world and besides isn't trying to be Paul kossof in this!!! Thats the whole point of this collaboration! just like Paul Rodgers doesn't pretend to be Freddie Mercury for Queen songs, it's all about adding their own flavour. Koss is incomparable because he is/was unique and one of the best in his own genre and I know May had more years performing but even from early on May explored many styles. So is wrong to just rule one out :)

  • This is that dope smokin music that filthy hippys listen to

  • I love this song - realy FREE

  • Is this Queen + Paul Rodgers or Queen + Chuck Norris? ;)

  • A bit unfair to expect Brian to get near to Koss on this track perhaps.

I dont know any guitarist who is near to Koss with vibrato, they seem to get a bit wrapped up in effects and think sustain will carry over having a lack of feel - well it doesn't.

  • @QVXS77 Maybe he should have used The Les Paul

  • F***ING COOL!!

  • I miss Freddy .......... :-(

  • sounds messy. Not a patch on Free. Rogers still one of the best singers out there.

  • @wiltner how so?

  • @Robotdrummerzzk Free were a special combination of talents. Kossoff never drove his amps that hard and was a master of restraint. Andy Frazer was a brilliant funk bass player. Simon Kirk was rock solid old school. There was a lot of space in Free's music. This is just too heavy and busy for me. Rogers is still amazing though.

  • Brian is the best guitar!

  • @Pmls1972 not, paul kossoff is the best

  • Paul Rodgers is so goddam cool we can even forgive him for wearing leather trousers in the 21st century.

  • Beautiful melody!

  • PR RULES

  • @backdoorloverboy Everything he plays is just "Look how good I am"

  • Kossoff may have had a great natural sound, but as far as guitar compositions go nobody beats Brian May. His tone and guitar orchestrations are simply sublime.

    They both have their strengths.

  • fa fooks sake!! just relax and enjoy it.

  • PR doesn't quite have that PUSH and range that he used to have, but folks, that's just age and mileage. Now he has more CONTROL and works hard within his limitations. He understands his instrument. He is a unique voice, and like the fabulous Frankie Miller, when you hear it, you KNOW who it is.

  • Let me remind all you feuding children...PAUL KOSSOFF is DEAD. Be glad you have THIS and get off it. Go watch the film on the story of the band FREE. Ever hear the tribute song that Simon Kirke wrote about Kossoff? It's a sad bastard and very good. But what many of you don't get is that this band came up together. They were tight. They fought, too. But at the bottom of it was a love and respect for their music. Shame PK was ruined by drugs. A total waste of a marvelous talent. FREE-ALWAYS!!

  • sounds good to me

  • Jesus, this is so great music.

When Purple will stop touring and Queen also what will we have? Bullshit mainstream or fucking heavy leather metal music.

    An era will be over.

As to @cleveroonie: yeah, Kossoff could bend a note like noone else in rock. Shitty drugs killed him.

  • Shame that he's dead the same goes to Tommy Bolin

  • Yes, and Bolin played on Stratus with Billy Cobham. A legendary album. Not many Rock players can also play fusion. It is musicwise very challenging. Jon Lord said about Bolin: a lovely lost soul! Purple at that time was a money making machinery - the worst that could happen to Tommy - I guss!

  • PAUL RODGERS FOREVER

  • Love PR, then and now, but watching the old videos of Free, I think the rawness they had then was so much better, esp this song. Still, can't wait for Nov 6th.

  • I like Brian May - infact i saw queen twice in the eighties but playing a Kossoff guitar solo - well he hasnt got the quality Koss had - Ive been playing guitar myself for nearly 30yrs - Kossoff had great control of his bends and vibrato and I still dont know anyone who can better him on this - so much soul - Im a bid bladderd - hope it makes sense

  • His voice is better than in the 70's in my opinion

  • Oh man, he is just amazing! His voice is as good as it was 30 odd years ago. What a God!!

  • Very very great voice Paul Rodgers!!

  • ROCK BABY!!!Amazing Music...

  • Why doesn't Paul Rodgers say one word in memory of Koss??? I was at their concert in Dubai...The whole postmortem tribute went to Freddie Mercury (RIP)...

....but not one word for KOSS, not one!

  • OMG WOW I WAS THERE IN DUBAI TOO lol small world lol.i think the reason he didnt mention Koss (R.I.P) cos its THE GOD OF ROCK oh sorry Paul Rodgers and Queen if it had been brian may (who btw has the worst 25 min guitar solos EVER and is CRAP in my opionion) the fair enough mention Koss (R.I.P) but i think they didnt cos it was Queen and THE GOD OF ROCK. but he should of mentioned the guitar ledgend that is (drum roll) PAUL KOSSOFF R.I.P WE LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU BUDDY

  • its funny how u think me calling brian may crap is some form of offense or personal attack and btw i said in my opinion yeah so what you say means jack to me you can say what you like wont change my view and im sorry ive never heard that about brian may from anyone not just Paul Rodgers so with respect your comment is bs :)

  • The ";-)" didn't give you a clue that wasn't a serious comment, no?

    Chill the hell out dude.

  • @geshtasb He did on his own tour later the same year, but here they used the Queen name, Freddie's name, they had to do some kind of tribute.

  • paul rodgers i must say looks younger there than when they originally recorded it!!!! but rly gd song bu koss had to be there rly!

  • Kossoff & May! Brilliant!

  • I hate to break it to you but Freddie Mercury is gone and the Queen vocal sound is also gone for ever. Nobody can ever replace Freddie Mercury singing Queen songs. If Paul Rodgers had died Freddie Mercury couldnt had stepped in a replaced Paul Rogers singing Free, Bad Company songs. Another thing, Dont wasnt our time with your clothing critiquing either. Its not cute and nobody cares.

  • Paul Rodgers is good, but his voice just doesn't do it for me with a Queen sound. Adam Lambert really is the only person I've heard that can bring that sound back.

  • Honestly what the hell does Rodgers look like in those trousers! I dont like this perfromance although I love the song. He looks like he's more bothered about trying to shag somebody's mum....

  • are you jealous charwood81????

  • Magic !

  • May is very very good but only koss had that unique feeling...

  • Koss, the one and only!!!

  • thats why it is Queen + Paul Rodgers and not Queen

  • Paul Rodgers = 100x better in my opinion. This song by Free is just mind blowing.

  • @Zilch35 Why are you watching this video then?

  • they're not the "original" Queen, but they works excellently!

  • Great!!!!! Love them!!! Rock on!!!! Rock on!!!

  • Grande Paul Rodgers e o Queen !

    * God Save The Rock And Roll *

  • And we should we have to "get over it" just because you say so? Why is your opinion more valid than thousands of others? If you don't get him fine, frankly it's your loss, but you don't need to be so obnoxious about it.

  • Fuck the RECESION see you in AUS PLEASE YEHHH YEHHHHHHHHH YEHIYEAHHH YEH

  • has this live version been released on cd? need this kick-ass song in better quality

  • It comes free with the c-elebrity single.

  • is a whole good song performed 30 years later in wich you can reconized the voice, hope to see them perform for a long time, of course is not Koss playing the solo, but you can always purchase it from the net........and hear the differences, good song anyway

  • All that matters is, that all this music is kept alive.

Sure Kossof wouldn't be that good playing Brighton Rock..or Freddie singing My Brothe Jake

At least you have the chance to listen to these guys playing live.Remember music is not like supporting the football you have loved all your life!!!!!!!!!!

  • Where do you think May got his vibrato from?I'd take Koss over May anyday

  • Pointless comparison mate, and not one that will change any minds. May is 60 odd with many years' experience and all the equipment and techniques of today, Paul had a short career in another era - mainly as a teenager - with a band which deliberately played very simply. For what it's worth, in my opinion KSL has it right - Paul had a unique feel and the rare ability to use his guitar like a voice to touch the soul. His playing can still give you chills 40 years on.

  • What PK played was in his heart/soul and fingers. Like Gary Rossington, he appears to have liked his LP, a cord and an amp. Guys like PK, Rossington, May, (put your favorite GREAT guitarist here) can pick up a $100 beat to death Fender Squier and an old beat to S F-twin and create sonic landscapes. Michael Bloomfield was the same. They had it in em. It wasn't created with electronics/pedals/effects. It's called HEART. LOTS of time alone in a room with the axe, too.

  • @kossoff1 No, I'd have May over Koss any day. Koss may have been a technically better guitarist, but he'd never be able to make up the harmonies May did using his guitar, or the original ingenuiety he had

  • I have to agree with ZCoop21, Paul just seems to be going through the motions. Not like his usual brilliance.

  • Q+PR rocks !!!

  • both bands were good but 4 me this doesn't work - too many ego's - well Rodgers mainly

  • If anyone needs any reasons for Queen + Paul Rogers, they are simple - the chance to hear classics like this live instead of having them lost forever.

  • When you hear this u know the epicness in Free's performance. This is wrong in a way. But i love to see these songs performed! And i hope queen will come to norway

  • It's pretty cool that Paul Rodgers both sounds and looks so great after four decades of being a rock star. Rock on, Paul!

  • @Rickysound

Looks great, not too sure... a little bit over the top!

  • The timing/chemistry is off. It feels a bit rushed instrumentally. I'm sure Paul feels the pull. That can be frustrating as a singer.

Rodgers is one of the worlds best singers without a doubt, he sounds even better with age now as well.

I know he absolutely loves what he does for a living. That's the key to happiness in life!

    Cheers,

    AWDM

  • Danny Miranda

  • some guy from brooklyn. last name Miranda.

  • Who's the bass player in Queen now?

  • in a french magazine God - sorry, Brian May says they don't have an official bassist. basically what they did in the recording of the album was to share the work, and May and Rogers played different parties of the bass line on the the songs. Even Roger Taylor played it, on surfs up.

  • Danny Miranda is the player in their tours, but the album is made completely by Rodgers, May and Taylor.

  • Sorry but this just doesn't do it for me. I saw Free in the 70's and still play the Fire and Water album every now and then. This version has something missing.

  • OK. I've been listening to Queen for over 10 years, and I can't stand Paul's singing Bohemian Rhapsody.

    It's life.

  • I've been listening to Free for 15 years and i cannot stand Queen playing this song too .... ;)

But let's all get along with it

  • The reason Paul can't sing BoRhap is because that was the definitive song by Freddie, whereas other songs work with another singer, that never will.

And as for Fire and Water, what's missing: Paul Kossoff.

Still Paul is the best thing for Queen since Freddie died I have to say.

And I'd never forgive them if they dropped BoRhap.

  • This song, played with Brian's Red Special, is awesome!

  • what a band terrific musicianship so tight just takes my breath away

  • Wat a fukin colaberation. one of the biggest and greatest bands ever with one of the best rock singers ever ! love queen and really love Free so to see them come together is amazin !!!

  • Sorry - in reply to previous comments regarding Kossof being better, and Taylor's drums not suiting the song.

Also like to add - Roger Taylor is a far greater drummer than Simon Kirk. No disrespect to Kirk, but Rog is a different class.

  • Sorry;

The point isn't as to which drummer is greater.

Both equally suited their band(s) respective styles at the time.

But the problem IS Taylor cannot find the earthy, laid back groove that Kirke mastered.

Listen to how Paul has to clip his lines during the chorus to match the awkward rhythm as there isn't enough time to sustain the notes to their full length.

...that or lazy singing on Paul's part.

  • I was there in Yokohama. ANd I second all that Mr Coppens has written below. Rogers is up there on stage - an equal. One of the great voices - up there with Winwood and Mercury.

  • I like this version, May and taylor do a good job! But can't help but prefer old Kossof playing this song! I love this new Queen and Paul Rodgers line up, especially with Palladino on bass, by far one of the best bassists in the world. Saw him with the who and he was outstanding

  • Having seen Queen + Paul Rodgers 3 times now in the past few years I have to say that Paul Rodgers really rocks hard.

I went as a Queen fan and came back as Paul Rodgers fan as well.

On a side note to all those people attending Queen + Paul Rodgers concerts that feel the need to walk out the venue to buy drinks or take a piss as soon as Paul Rodgers performs a solo song (Seagull for example): give the guy the respect he deserves! He is equally brilliant (at least!) to Queen in every way.

  • i wouldn't out if there was a bloody earthquake lol

  • Yeah mate, but when you gotto go, you got to go

We're all getting older and the old prostrate can't take the strain!!

  • fantastic!!!!!

  • It sounds to much like free, they have got to balance it

  • roger taylor seems to find it hard to get the feel of the FREE tunes

  • Anybody would!! Free was irreplaceable!! Brian is having more problem with imitating Kossy's vibrato!!

  • Hey man, no problem, apples and oranges. I just wanted to point out that people see to forget about FREE. But they were one of those bands that changed rock forever! If you like this version, try Wilson Pickett's version, that's good too. :)

  • @jonaldinho2006 I don't get why everyone is criticising this:

THIS IS NOT FREE. THIS IS QUEEN + PAUL RODGERS. They can change the way song "feel" anyway they like.

  • Brian May es muy grande.......El sonido de la Red special es fantastico.

  • He is so hot in leather pants. wow. My heart just skipped a beat. Hes amazing in every sense of the word. Rock on Paul!!! Hell Yeah!

  • Wow, I've gone through 9 pages of comments, but I'm getting tired! I love the mostly intelligent, reasonable commentary I've seen so far. I love Queen and I love Paul Rodgers, so I'm not going to be all behind the comments of some big hating poster.

  • hey have you posted this on every song here!!!youre really trying hard to get your point across but honestly you are not listening!!!!they are great, listen to the music, queen is still queen, it all depends on how you look at it and i for one am just glad that we still get to hear the great songs, and by the way, this is a paul song!!!

  • Thats very true. But it's only Rock N Roll.

In this instance it's a bunch of men of advancing years having fun and making a lot of people happy.

If freddie was still kicking about he'd probably be up to some music project that the naysayers like you would frown upon.

    Now you remember that!

  • I'm roughly 30 years younger than Paul Rodgers and I wish to fuck I could carry off leather pants as well!

  • i didnt say he shouldnt wear leather pants, personally i dont like them but he looks great in anything!!! however, what i said was i prefer him without them.....if you get my meaning?!!!!!

  • Got to agree with emperorsdragon, but I'd rather Paul was still out there getting his music (Free) across to a more people.

And yes - I think Queen were also great.

  • mahhhh!!!!!!non-sense......

  • I love love love Queen soooo much but i still like the free version of this song better

  • its all well and good bangin on about the music, but lets not overlook the fact that the leather pants rodgers is wearing are damn awful!

  • also not a fan of pauls leather pants....personally id prefer him without them!!!!

  • why would it matter if he wears leather pants its not your life its not like your with him every day seeing him wear those pants and even if you did its his decision they are just pants

  • calm down!!! ever heard of irony?

  • how does irony have anything to do with that..

  • It seems that roger taylor does not like the style of the drumer of free.

  • John Deacon provided the soul of Queen, too bad he's not still with it

  • poor version of a classic free song. The musicians have given the singer no space to perform. To many notes on guitar & to much

distortion. Also the beat is to hard rock orientated from the drummer, therefore no space for soulful blues.

  • Of course... It's not Free, but Queen... you cannot have them play exactly the same way as Free did, which was more than good... excellent... it's just a different band with a different approach, but, in my opinion, very good nevertheless.

  • I want Brian to do Long Away...

  • It's far from the soul Free had in the old vids!

    but i think its AWESOME!

  • Funny thing, it seems to me that Paul was way better in 1970's version of this song...

  • brian may will never be better than kossoff was

  • @anycolouryouwant He's a far better guitar player, his guitar orchetrations and harmonies could never have been achieved or utilised by Kossoff (awaits loads of angry replies and expletive PM's)

  • hope i die before i get old

  • Excuse me? I thought for a moment that you were saying that this was better than FREE......Nasty moment , that.

  • KEEP ROCKIN PAUL!!!!!

  • This version is much too fast, and has no soul - and I agree with closertotheheart re drumming - still it's good to hear the music getting an airing

  • Of course this version has soul... it's a bit harder than Free, where Kossoff just oozed soul.

If you're trying to say that Brian May has no soul, well - you need to get your soul-o-meter checked.

Although I do think Simon Kirke is a better drummer in Fire and Water than Roger Taylor and I do prefer Free's version to this one, it's not bad.

  • Thanks for your reply Bricked, don't get me wrong - Queen are one of the best bands ever to appear, thanks largely to Brian May, and I'm enjoying this mix of Queen/Paul.

My comment was that I still prefer the Free version, apart from Pauls vocal this version has slick - but personally speaking - no soul.

But like you say - it's not bad!

    Cheers

  • Roger Taylor's the greatest but I don't think he quite nails the Simon Kirke feel of this song.

  • This song and All Right Now are my favorite Free songs. Great interpretation!

  • Thanks for sharing! Rare performance i think. It's brillliant!!!! I hope they will play this in the next tour! Brian is the man!!!!

(Paul and Roger do pretty good job to... :-) )

  • what r u talkin about roger taylor is still a great drummer he is playing it how the song goes what do u want him to do

  • brian may can play

  • i could have sworn roger taylor was a better drummer than this... getting a bit loose in his dotage blessim!

  • 30-U-1H

  • Free and Queen are my two favourite bands... this version is ok, but not as good as their version of Wishing Well, which really rocks.

  • i love Paul's voice, i prefer this version

  • super supergroup

  • Paul Rodgers and Queen have one hell of a back catalogue to draw from!

  • I love how singing Paul Rogers but not George Michael, Soto could have been a good replacement to

  • It's not about the voice, it's about CHEMISTRY.

  • there's no replacements for freddie, and i'm glad that brian and roger have chosen a so different kind of voice from freddie's one because that means that they're really trying to create a new style instead of doing a simple remake of the past years. I also enjoyed one of their italian concerts in 2005, but i would have appreciated if they had chosen another name instead of "queen"...

  • Imagine him singing 'tie your mother down'?!

  • I totally agree with ya!!

Paul Rodgers was the best choice for singing for queen though, he puts his stamp on it and gives it a blues edge.

Brian May playing Kossoff.....bit of a nightmare really, not 10% of the feel of kossoff.

I bet they changed the key purely for brian may's solo

  • this is my favourite free song, this performance isn't as good as the original one

  • Rodgers sounds a bit strange in this one: he's singing at a lower register that's not really 'his' trademark voice. There's a version from 1998 over to your right, as well as the original: give them a listen and see what you think.

  • Yes he may be singing in a slightly lower register, but you have to consider that he is a lot older here than he was when the clips you refer to were done. Every vocalists' voices change timbre over the years. Paul may have recognised that he cant keep pushing his vocals to the same limits he once did and doesnt want to risk injury, throat nodules, etc. The sign of a good vocalist imo. Add to the fact that Paul may not want to sing this the same way all the time in order to keep him interested.

  • I liked Free's original version better, still a great performance!

  • una de las mejores asociaciones de la musica, llena de talento, que no se a marchitado con el paso del tiempo. lo mejor de todo es k nunka fue predecida ni por los fans de queen ni por los de rodgers, simplemente geniales.

  • Toda la razón.

  • listen to the guitar solo...fantastic..

Brian still has it..a tour at the back end of this year should be fun ;-))))

  • Rodgers voice has definately changed a bit.

  • Hey, What do you want? Roger and Brian played well this song. Listen to Paul for example in Bohemian Rhapsody..

  • I WAS ACTUALLY THERE!!!!!!
