Also, anyone know who did the music? An instrument around 0:19 makes me want to say NJJ (an instrument similar to that appears in some of the music they did for Fox's NFL and NHL coverage).
The Cinemax Opening (Long Version) was also seen on a 1994 airing of "My Girl 2" starring Dan Aykroyd, Jamie Lee Curtis, Anna Chlumsky and Maculay Culkin until Cinemax took it off the air in 1995 due to performance problems with HBO, Time Warner Entertainment Company, Columbia Pictures Industries and Cable TV. I Don't Know Why or How it was moved to a different station in 1996.
Ahh yes, how memorable the 1994 Golden Ushers feature presentations are, but I still like both versions of the Cinemax paint palette presentations better as well as the HBO feature presentations during those times. The music on them was so memorably, catchy and so sticky that I would actually whistle to them unconsciously at school. Even some of the teachers caught on to the tunes and asked me why I was watching paid TV at my age (7-14 yrs).
I'm not old enough to remember this at all and I think it's a masterpiece. One of the highlights is the bit right before the end, the contrast between the darkness and the light (as the logo swivels from backwards to forwards).
I remembered this! This was shown around 1997 and it was very good. I was around 9 or 10 and I remembered watching the popcorn and candy dancing down the steps. They had a short version of this as well, and I hated it. I liked the longer version way better.
I wish I did but I don't think I have the video cassette with this on it anymore otherwise I'd re-digitize it. It was originally digitized on a Mac 8100/80av computer.
Wow. This is the version I remember seeing before movies like "Brainstorm", "Jade", and Shannon Tweed flicks like "Scorned". I believe Cinemax started using this intro in 1994 and dropped it in 1997. Since they don't have a movie intro today, they should consider updating this.
THANK YOU!! i have been looking for this for a month ha ha.

NBC used a similar "filmstrip countdown" ribbon for their weekly movie intros about a decade earlier.

I know. Only Encore/Starz and HBO still use intros. Cinemax and Showtime/TMC need to bring them back like they did in the old days.
Cinemax doesn't even do commercials anymore but just random clips from movies.

cooooool they don't do commercials just like the BBC lol
