@thespewking noway. I know my mom was a fan and b4 my Dad died he said something about FZ doin this song. (he told me that like over 10 yrs ago) and then I remembered it and fallowed the vids till I found the version. Glad I did
The amazing thing was that Frank would decide which version to play just seconds before the song was to be played and the band would pull it off. That is talent and diversity. Not like the cookie cutter concerts that are out there today.,
When you have heard other Zappa versions of the Whipping Post (even with the same line up), you will know the difference. Every concert is slightly different and shows new potentials. This reggae version is a lot of fun too. Frank gave the opportunity to develop the best performance for every band member in almost every concert. Rehearsal was one of the keys. This is great fun.
@Moose6340, it's actually just the band being supremely talented and flexible with a variety of musical styles. Frank obviously chose the musicians, so he does get credit for that. But it's the BAND for the most part! Frank probably wasn't even playing very much during this tune...
@mlagueux Amazingly talented musicians, their skills pushed, coaxed and honed to Frank's exacting standards, a ruthless, non-compromising artistic maestro, that strived for nothing less than the very best musicians imaginable, to present his uniquely entertaining live shows and albums! Long live Frank Zappa's music...
The reggae version of this song- done completely in reggae- with some hilarious "jamaican mon" vocals from Bobby. Obviously, the song stills retains the reggae solo vamp found on the "Them or Us" version, but being that the whole song is done in this style, the transition is not as jarring. Again, we get the standard deviation in Frank's solo.
frank takes overriding credits alot as producer and why not? sounds like Ray White is singing primarily frank is far to busy contending with his guitar parts...what a rush. Thanks frank for all the memories. Is Frank Zappa the reincarnation of Pagannini (spelling?)?
doesn't sound like Frank's vocals . . . I mean I know who ever it is faking the rasta accent I'm not stupid but it still doesn't sound like Frank are you sure it's him
@findingusernamesucks It sure as hell ain't Zappa singing, it's Bobby Martin. I feel like the very idea that this would be Frank's voice is a leg-pull.

The crazy thing is, they really make this song work as reggae! Amazing. It shows you just how awesome a musician Frank Zappa was.

Great version! It's also kind of funny.:)) But I really don't think that's Zappa singing. I rather think it's Tommy Mars.
