I surfed Swamis ever year from 76-86. Went there instead of San Dieguito. I have seen it much bigger, but never that good with reeling barrels.

Great waves but Jesus, what a mob. Looks like you could walk on all the bodies floating around. I used to surf there occasionally in the late 60's and it got crowded but nothing like that. I take my hat off to the tube riders....that was some serious traffic navigation. I guess if you could snag one of those bombs and survive, it was all worth it!!!!!

world class California waves don't happen very often. It is rare to get the combination of huge swell (if it's 8 foot here, it's probably closed out at the beachbreaks) and easterly wind creating offshores. This makes Honolua look sloppy...

I am lucky enough to suef Swamis almost daily, and although it is a great spot, it does not get like this very often. It seems that only a few times a year do we get it this good. Nice video with some killer barrels!

I'm pretty sure it was either 82 or 83 when we had a ginormous swell that broke the end of the huntington peir. The news called it 22+ and my dumbass paddled out ang got hit by the biggest white wash machine in my life...almost drown. I remember it well!

I surf swamis weekly, and this for sure was one of the best. In fact, what this video does not show is the rescue vehicles, helicopters and jet skiis that were all around pulling people out. I had heard that there were over 25 rescues that day! The vidoe makes it look all calm and sweet, but unless you were there, you would not know just how narly it was! Awesome video and memories!

Well when I surfed it dails between 77-86 there was no rescues ,just LONG ASS swims in!

New Years Day- 1983 Best Swamis I have ever seen. 18+ foot,Gerlach, Larry Colby, and CHrish Gish were the first ones out. SCARY, caught when, pointed toreard Pipes and went straight. Got out out, puffed a hooter with Nagy. Got my gun, ( 6'6" ) and went back out and sat on the inside bowl, ALL DAY! This is great footage!

I've surfed there a couple times...it was only 4 to 5 foot but the waves were long and fun. this is the hollowest, hugest, and definitely best day I've seen there from the road or on footage. great job on the video!!!
