as a born and bred Canadian kid of the 70s..Jim Perry was a huge part of my tv watching days way back when..we only got 2 tv channels..I remember Jim Perry very well.. :-)
@MrAaronLadner Well, if the people at both NBC and Fremantle Media would stop being a bunch of stupid and selfish assholes, then maybe we will see SOTC on GSN. Let me tell you, I am glad I got that out of my system.
Another outstanding performance by Jim. Jim hosted the Miss Canada Pageant for 24 years! (1967-91).Check out the videos which I recently uploaded. You find more great performances from Jim.
Also, I must tell you, Jim (a good friend of mine, along with his wife June, as I email them on her blog, and she has two pottery videos. They are listed under the search Shambhala) inspired me to sing along with hosting game shows, which I do locally, but never really sung much. I must practice and try it some more.
You rule Jim.
Thank you for the memories, because A NEW DAY HAS BEEGGGGUUUUNNNNN!!! LOL.
Really? Tell Jim for me I hope he is doing well & thank you for some of the fondest television memories I have from childhood. A child born in 1980 now considers him one of the best hosts of all time.
I heard he was a singer, but I never truly heard him sing until now. After hearing his voice, if I were the host of that telethon, I would've wanted to say, "Well, come on! Don't just sit there, give him a standing ovation! That was wonderful!" And mean it.
But the fact that Jim actually told viewers it'd be better if they ignored him and just got to the phone to make a donation shows what a class act he is. :-)
Few people realize that Jim Perry, by trade, IS a singer. He got involved in the game show business in Canada when he became the announcer on Definition 1973. He became the host of Definition in 1974 and thus began his career as a game show host.
Barry Manilow had a huge hit with memory, Johnny Mathis did a rendition (on his Friend in Love album). Robert Goulet did a rendition of this on his "Would You Dance With This Man".
The renditions were awesome. and so is Jim Perry's.
I only found out Jim Perry as a singer on the Wikipedia article. As a singer myself, I was quite surprised. "Memory" is one of my favorite songs. Very well sung Jim!
He Sounds like Andy Williams.

WOW! He's really good. This might have been from a long time ago, but he is a better vocalist than any popular musicians today.

"Higher or lower?" This also applies to Jim Perry's magnificent baritone vocal range! ;-)

I'm guessing 1985 since it's got the LMAD set from that time.

Also, anyone notice those set pieces from the 80s LMaD in the background?

On a recent American Idol, Andrew Lloyd Webber pointed out that no male singer has ever did this song. Looks like he's wrong!
