@tul0quita Brandan was surprised when his sister showed him Macca and said she hired him.  later, Brendan took Macca 'for a walk' and impressed on him the need to leave straight away. The next scene showed Brendan rinsing his bloody knuckles in the sink back at the bar. The inference is that Brendan beat the crap out of Macca. Macca was the guy that was with Brendan in bed when Brendan's wife walked in - hence the divorce.

Well, I think more than anyone else, Brendan hates himself.I think he's always known he was Gay and hated it because it made him feel weak, and he probably hung around with Thugs.In a twisted way, when he hits Ste, he is hitting himself because he thinks of Ste as weak and Gay-everything he doesn't want to be. He's probably only had a few semi-boyfriends, but mostly one night stands. He's psychologically damaged, but I don't think he would kill Amy. Redeemable ?

Ummm....WTH? How is Brendan's "caring" side getting this much love? Rae is about to blast this into public view, Macca's likely to be killed, Amy and Ste's kids are vulnerable, Amy is laying up in the hospital, and Ste will likely be thrown under the bus (perhaps literally - and I wish I was joking) so that Brendan can cover for himself. And yet.....he's "caring"? All I saw was manipulation and a silver tongue. He doesn't give a shit. And all this even though he likely didn't even set the fire.

I love how fast this storyline is moving--did not expect the revelation to Rae that quickly. Now we see how smart she is, or how much self preservation she has because while Bren would be happy using her, if he thinks she's a real threat to him and Ste, she'd better look out. So Macca is obsessed with Brendan who is obsessed with Ste, and Rae is in love--disaster in big Neon letters. . I'm glad there is more going on than just the domestic abuse .

The strange thing is, I believe Brendan when he says he'd never start a fire with kids in the building. I don't for a second think his dark side extends to children. I think, if he wanted to scare Amy, he'd have paid someone to break in and scare her, or mug her or maybe graffiti a bad threat in her bedroom, or something along those lines. I believe he'd start a fire for insurance fraud or some other scam, but not to kill or hurt anyone.

Does anyone else think that Brendan would have braved the flames and rescued Amy and the kids if he had witnessed the fire? I mean, I'm CERTAIN he would have first stopped to admire his moustache in a mirror amidst the flames and smoke and I'm CERTAIN and he would have been making veiled/inappropriate/semi-hila­rious threats to Amy as he carried her down the ladder, but I have little doubt that he would have rescued her and the kids.

To be totally honest, I don't really feel in the least bit sorry for Rae that she is being used by Ste. Why? She has put herself in this position. First she suspects that there is someone else that Ste is involved with and is acting upset about it, then she turns around and demands that Ste prove he likes her by sleeping with her. Sorry, no sympathy from me. She has put herself in the position to be used.

Caring Brendan often seems to equal guilty Brendan (i.e. all the fuss he made over his sister after he mistakenly bashed her in the head, caring for Ste after cracking his ribs ect..) I don't think he actually set the fire, but it seems to me he feels guilty about something. Perhaps not lending Dom money, and Dom went on to set the fire after talking to Warren? I would love it if it was just caring on Bren's part, but at this point that doesn't seem quite right.

Is he really only Brendan's victim? Or is there more to their past?

One thing I did find really interesting was that Brendan was able to keep his cool when Ste went to Brendan and was all angry, accusing and shoving Brendan. If there ever was a time for abusive Brendan to rear his ugly head, I would have expected it at that moment. So, does this mean Brendan is gaining some self control? I'm not really sure what it means. Sometimes I feel like Brendan is two different characters.

@DaxShaw Its a gay storyline staple on soaps, the gay bloke using a girl as his beard or straight cover. Hollyoaks did it a couple years ago with the JP/Craig storyline. John Paul used Hannah and Craig used Sarah. They were mad at first but eventually forgave and forgot and Hannah and John Paul became best friends. It's just what the writers always seem to do with these storylines.

As shady as Brendan is, there is something about Macca that makes me not trust him. Macca didn't ever seem afraid of Brendan. Which, you would think would be the case if Brendan was abusive towards him and he though he was so dangerous. Instead it seems like Macca enjoys taunting Brendan as much as Brendan enjoys intimidating people. Makes me wonder if Brendan really hurt him like it was implied or if maybe he really did fall down the stair after an argument with Brendan. Kind of ambiguous IMO.
