Someone slap Serch. Hard! "Greeks stole fron Nubian cultures." You're white. Hating white people doesn't mean you're down! When it all comes down to it, he's a phony anyway. Hosting the white rapper show, b Gas face given...asically a reverse minstrel show, the joke's on him.
Thank you thank you thank you for this interview! i've been on the hunt for any material Subroc was in, and this just fattened my archive...Thank you Lorna!!
Remember that this was shot in 1989 and there was a lot of tension about authentic vs commercial Hip Hop. Search was speaking within the context of the time, and I understand that he and the Beastie Boys are currently cool with each other.
I respect search but But I disagree with what he said about beasties. To quote chuck-d"The beasties werent trying to be black thy were just rapping about white boy s-..."
MC Serch sounds like a very smart person and he is an awesome rapper. he's better than anyone from beastie boys, so he has the right to say whatever he wants. 3rd bass for life!
Nice seeing some cool 3rd Base. 3rd Base AND the Beastie Boys are great because they rap from their heart. That's who they are. That's what rap is. Both are true to themselves and the music comes out great.
oh yea, and I Think when the Sinister Prime Minister Pete Nice told hammer to shut up that's the most emotion I've ever seen out of him. Ha Ha. Third bass was super def though
I Call Out The Serch. Serch's rhymes are dope and 3rd bass music is high quality hip hop, but HOW DID THE BEASTIE BOYS DISRESPECT THE BLACK COMMUNITY?
Search grew up around Redfern Projects in Far Rockaway Queens, NY dudes know what it is out there, to be a white boy growing up around there your gonna adapt to whats around you. I don't think he was "trying" to act like he was black
talking crap about beastie boys. He asked them if he could be in the group but he couldn't...guess why he talks shit about beastie boys? I mean...MC Serch is great, but he is a real wigger.
I feel kind of sad for Serch, he always made me feel like i was listening to a white guy who really wanted to be black. I never had the same feeling when i listened to pete nice he seemed more comfortable with his own identity. Serch used to go on about the evils of the white man like he was the only guy in rap saying it but at the time you could reference countless crews with a similar outlook, the only difference was that there were all black.
This was one of my first artist interviews on Lorna's Corner. Be sure to remember this conversation was set in the context of the culture and music in the late 80's early 90's. The equipment wasn't the best but we bought it ourselves and it did the job. The craziest thing happened with the microphones during first part of the interview;it picked up a radio station frequency and that is why you hear Broadway in the background of the interview.
Serch is a moron.
This whole black vs white dialectic he builds up. He talks about others being ignorant, maybe his fat ass should try to be less ignorant as well.
The world's bigger than black and white, Serch. And blacks, just as much as whites, can be ruthless.

He may be a chump, but he's a well-intentioned chump with integrity and he did a lot for New York hip-hop.
