In terms of the explosion of human populations, it was domesticated animals and for the most part agriculture (of cereal grasses especially) that enabled modern societies. And beyond the past 10k years or so, yes, though we have existed as a species for <~200k years, ourselves and our ancestral species have hunted animals. But this was very different from modern hunting with modern weapons(far more sustainable).
I hunt a 60 acre plot on the ny pa border and am not allowed to bait blackbear I have seen tracks and there is a power pole where they scratch and rub up against it maybe a hundred yards off the plot I hunt but I have never seen any bear

the bear pop in PA is rising. therw are bear everywhere. a buddy of mine took pictures of a couple in the mnts. 500+ lbs. the other was almost as big. I plan to bag a bear this year! Hoorah!
