zellerauer1 is right is it the nitro lacquer finish. The SSU (Signature Series Urethane) version of this guitar has the less desireable urethane finish and correspondingly costs a few hundred less.
Sounds really sweet. I'm saving for a SSU. Hope it sounds as good. Nice licks by the way, sound slike you were jumping between different songs and stuff you knew while still keeping your rhythm solid. Cool.
Spend as much as you can possibly affordon your first guitar, because a cheap guitar - one which sounds poor and frequently goes out of tune, will only make you put down the guitar.
Also remember the first few months are the hardest, once you get over the first incline it's nothing but a free roll :)
your never too old to take up the guitar. and if rockabilly on a Gretsch is your inspiration then GO for it........ you'll have to save your $ to get a guitar like this but then there's your goal !!!
What do you mean with being to old? You think when you're 16 you're no more able to learn guitar? o.O
You can start learning guitar even when you're 60... If you mean that you have tos tart at that age to become a pro then 16 is a very good age, but it's not really the age that matters, it's about motivation and time.
@jameggbread You'll get really fustrated tho, because rockbailly is - arguabley - one of the hardest genres to play, i started when i was 12-13 and i'm 17 now and can only just play stuff like mystery train, etc. So if you do start bare with it.
@jameggbread No you are not. I played for 15 years and made more progress in two years than in the last 15 combined. Just listen to a lot of music, be disciplined, and don't be afraid to play w/ people who are better and ask questions. Play that thang, hoss!
That's a nice guitar, especially for its price..! Tried a 6120 the other day: nicely built, good feel, neck was just thick enough, not too bulky, not too thin, a bit like acoustic... And the sound =) If I ever decide to start playing rockabilly the 6120 will definitely be my choice ;)
Hey there. From a long-time Gretsch owner, I can tell you they're not just for rockabilly these days. (Although that's where they shine above the rest).
Lots of members of the GDP group are actually playing punk, psychobilly, and just about any other genre on their Gretsches. Though for me, I use mine for everything from rockabilly to slide, to fingerpicking, to simple rhythm.
they're more than just a 1 trick pony. Try one out, and put it through paces. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
HEY ! HOSSA !
u sed take a teacher cud u plz put on sum vids on like 'how to' coz ur really good at it and that the EXACT style i wanna play so if uhav the spare time and patience to make learnin vids they would be much appreciated plz ohyh greetings bk :p
cheers. i live in england so its gonna be harder 4 me to find it the price u did i dont mind used or new coz ive only just heard rockabilly an i wannaplay it just i wana get a gd guitar to play it on as im playin at the mo a vintage v99 les paul and i desperatly want a rockabilly guitar.
no one really rocks thoes anymore, but to me they are like cars, old school is better than new school plus you can always add new stuff to old school stuff
perhaps u should check what they are made out of...... ud see its the same stuff
the gretsch guitars in the 2k 3k price zone are made out of mahogany (top is made out of maple) and the same for the gibson... idk how u can dis a company when it uses the same material as gretsch....
and how would u no if i can afford a gibson and a gretsch....
the gibson custom shop guitars go up all the way to 7k
again you cant afford either so why do you care...and i aint talking about a stupid tennessee rose i know what the difference is between hollow bodies and solid i own 12 guitars.
Your playing is awesome but at some points it sounds like you're speeding through the song man...(btw, i DO realize it's a fast song, but sometimes it's like he skips a beat)
yo ouughtta slow down cowboy.

Thanks :)

you are not too old. i startd at the age of 15...

Thanks to everyone that replied to my comment. I now have an accoustic guitar and its going pretty well.
Thanks again, you were all a big help!

I started at 32! Best way to start is by learning all your basic chords, how to tune your guitar to pitch, and practice, practice, practice.

just wow.
there's just no comparison to gretsch guitars.
If there were guitar shows like car shows where they "show and sine" gretsch would really win.
but honestly that was great rockabilly solo.
When i'm an adult I'll buy a gretsch deffinately.
Well, better work hard at school first to get a good job so i can afford the luxuries of life I dream of :)
