A completely different interpretation from any I've heard before. You always get either the anger and/or desire to be clever/ironic on the part of the jilted one. What you don't always get is their sense of hurt and feeling that they could and should have been stronger and if they had things would have gone differently. That's what this version gives you.
Nancy's voice was pure aural confection. No gimmicks or theatrics, just her voice delivering the song in her inimitable style. Nancy, like Karen Carpenter, left us way too damn soon.
OMG, I had no idea any of her music was on You Tube! I saw her in concert many years ago in a little club in San Francisco as she was a close friend of someone I grew up with. Such a tragic loss just as her career was ready to take off. And all those years with that damned litigation. Thank you so so much for posting! A devoted fan.
nancy lamott is my favorite vocalist, i only wish i had seen her in person, alas, she left right after i moved to nyc. My cover of "rhode island is famous for you" is a tribute to her.
She was an exceptionally brilliant singer who sadly died very early in life but who also chose to pick some very corny songs. I thank you for uploading anything by her live as I was never given an opportunity to see her myself in concert but this is not Nancy at her best. Her rendition of "Days of wine and roses" for instance is quite simply the best "cry into your whiskey cabaret" you will ever hear.
What are you talking about - Nancy is perfect on this Johnny Mercer tune - starting slow and steady and then ending with a panic and anxiety ridden revenge - BRILLANT! - Only Karen Mason sings this as Fabulously. Corney???? No, Classic.

This is corny and overly staged. You can see it and hear it a mile away which is sadly the case for quite a few of the songs she recorded. It would definitely not be the case in relation to her rendition of "My foolish heart". Have either of you heard that, because then you would hear Nancy at her best and not this Broadway revue style stuff which is just pure cheese.
well you have a right to your opinion but to me neither the material nor the interpretation has anything "corny" about it- msybe you can explain yout terms more cause I dont see what you see at all
Fair enough. All I can say is, this performance seems overly staged and clinical especially when you compare it to her version of "my foolish heart". Can anyone please upload that song so I can make my case more clearly?
Nancy LaMott was and is the single most gifted singer in popular music...she has a voice able to do anything and uses it to perfection..NO other voice touches me the way Nancy does...her life story and death was hearthbreaking but i'm sure she would have wanted us to focus on her amazing abilities instead of the tragedy..;anyone who is either in love, just out of love or just feeling lonely will find the most perfect friend in her radiant and magical voice....love her!!
Back in the late 70,s when I was a very young man and Nancy a very young woman, I used to go hear her sing in the old Duplex on Grove Street and was always enchanted by her lovely voice. It's so sad that she died so soon, happily for us she left quite a few albums behind so whenever I feel nostalgic for those salad days in NYC I just pop Nancy on the stereo................so thanks for the memories Nancy.
Then I saw her again later at 88's a few years before her untimely death, when she was preparing for her next album...so tragic that we lost this unprecedented talent. :'-(
What an amazing clip! Pure GENIUS arrangement by Marlowe, the transition into the second half (not a jazz waltz, btw, but a syncopation). And what can you say that could possibly be worthy of Nancy? Such a HUGE talent! I was in NY when she used to do demos for David Zippel and was fortunate enough to meet him and was taken to see her doing her act at Don't Tell Mama's before she lost all the weight, slimmed down and grew her hair out until she blossomed into a true beauty.
FergieFerguson: DITTO! Every few months I'd type Nancy's name in the search window...when, finally! Voila! Are there any more hidden gems out there? Please, have a heart!
what a great gift... I saw her at the algonquin in NY and years later i found out she had passed... and by passing she robbed mankind of the gift of her perfect voice... thanks for the post
FINALLY! How awesome to see a posting like this. I've randomlly checked her name on UTube for some time now, and how delicious to finally see not only a clip of hers but one of such great quality. This is very special and I greatly appreciate the posting!
Thanks for posting this. I was lucky enough to see her in person at a Frank Sinatra tribute at Carnegie Hall in the mid 1990's. She sang I Have Dreamed, which is an awesome song. She was such a talented singer, one who left us way too soon. We are fortunate that the legal issues surrounding her cds and radio appearances have been worked out so that more of her material can surface to the public.
What a wonderful clip of the fabulous Nancy LaMott! And Christopher Marlowe's arrangement is superb; especially going into the jazz waltz part. Even though Ms. LaMott has left us, I think her popularity will grow, especially with the new material on CD's and DVD's coming out in the near future. To quote Nancy, "Goodie!".
Hooray. The first of many to come. The finest cabaret singer ever, and a joy to see her and Christopher together "doing their thang". Thank you so much for posting it.
Most of her song interpretations are unique, powerful and healing. She was and is amazing...

Brilliantly arranged and performed.
Some one made very strange comments about it's being "over staged." They also said "corny."
Oh - please! - ultra amazing.

To me Nancy was an above average vocalist with below average emotion and heart. I felt she let the songs sing her.
