My only thing is the false impression that he had no access to sign language. That is a simple lie. What you mean is that you couldn't be inconvenienced to learn sign language. That even understanding that his hearing will be limited to allow unaided understanding of speech in a quiet background, and offers only very limited appreciation of musical melody, or speech understanding in noisy environments. You should love him enough to also learn sign language and add that to the story.
@the13thwizard I understand your frustration with that part of the movie. I have mentioned this dozens of times throughout all my commenting, but I will say it again. We were practicing Audio Verbal therapy which requires only listening and (almost) no sign. When his hearing dropped, he hadn't learned sign, so that's all I meant. Profoundly deaf with no ASL at that moment. So fast forward to 2011..we take sign and love it! Agreed it is a gift to our whole family. He has the best of both worlds!
i am so happy that the CI worked for you... i really am but you should still think about learning sing language (the complete family), its a part of him even if he can hear... one day he will appreciate it
Keep up the good fight. As a parent all you can do is make what you feel is the the best decision for your family based on whatever situation you are in, and then you move forward. You made a tough decision in the best interest of you child, what else could anyone ask of you?
These parents made a good choice. If they had waited, the child wouldn't have a choice, as the implants wouldn't work. If he wants to be deaf, he can not put them on in the morning. If I want to see less, I can take my glasses off. He and I both have a choice.
Mocking him for how they look? How awful. I simply cannot believe this. You people are disgusting; not because you are deaf, but because of your close minded attitudes. Be ashamed pls.
And calling someone a ''hearie''? that's just dripping of jealousy and disrespect.
We don't go around calling hard hearing people ''deafies''. have some respect for your fellow humans will you?
as to the parents of this child i wish you all the best and don't let negative jealous comments ever make you doubt your decisions you have made for your child.
I hope science and technology for hearing implants will get ever more advanced and better.
If you choose not to hear that's your own choice but you can't scold these parents for wanting to give their child everything they can give.
And yes it is better to do this as young as possible as the child will learn to speak faster and will learn to understand sounds and spoken language much sooner.
Sign language is a beautiful thing but it's still a fact that this child now has more opportunities.
wow allot of deaf people seem to react very jealous of these implants are they extremely expensive or something?
Ofcourse as a parent the better choice is to give your child this opportunity to hear the child will always be deaf but if he can hear good enough to know what sound is what you have not only given him more opportunities in the world but you have also gave him more safety.
Hearing things is not only for communication it's for our own protection.
ASL used to be the only viable option and CIs were a gamble. That's no longer the case. Deaf Culture and sign language aren't dying, they're just changing and THAT'S OK! This is my favorite CI video, and PART of the reason is because of the beautifully chosen song that I HEAR when I play it!
wow, i have to say, the comments on this video infuriates me. i am deaf myself, use sign-language as my main mode of communication. i grew up with deaf people - cos my parents are deaf, deaf culture, sign-language. deaf people can be seriously narrow-minded and very opposed to cochlear implants. i totally understand because the deaf world is "dying". but there's no point trying to go against it. but other people also don't understand the value of the deaf world and why some don't wanna hear.
If you don't want to hear, cover your ears. If you don't want to see, close your eyes. When it comes to making a choice for your child who is born blind or deaf in a world of sight and hearing, I think it is child abuse to not give your child every opportunity to function as well as possible in this world.
I can't say I agree with your choices, I'm hard of hearing and my hearing is going fast. You should have waited until he was old enough to make the choice himself. Learn Sign Language. Deaf culture is beautiful, but now that has been taken away. I don't prefer to speak but I can speak just fine (speech therapy). I'm not saying you did the wrong thing, but instead of changing him why not learn FOR him?
@MizuhoAiyu If you research the CI, you will see that there is a narrow window in which there is an optimum outcome for the child. The earlier, the better. If we waited, the results are not as . A childs brain is flexible and can respond to the implants sound. As you get older, the brain gets used to silence and can't process the sound as well. We made a choice for our son, which is our right and our duty. We are learning ASL now. We love it! Now he can speak and sign. Perfect, right?
@kalijasin You're funny. My son is still DEAF. And always will be! We love everything about him, and embrace him wholly. We just gave him other options in life. Like getting him a pair of glasses if he had trouble seeing, or leg braces if he had trouble walking. Would you be apposed to that? He is a deaf boy that has the option to hear and speak and listen as he wishes. It was my obligation as a parent to provide him the best life possible, and this is what we choice. We are happy! End of story.
@kalijasin I am not delusional. My son is deaf. Just because he has Cochlear Implants doesn't meaning that he will ever be a hearing person. He lives a deaf person with Implants. He thinks he's deaf. He's proud to be deaf. Would you tell him to his face that "he isn't deaf" ?
@LoganArtFarm I sure would, but he would not understand me since he has no true deaf identity. He does not mix with other deafs and is not fluent in american sign language. You have took all that away from him when you implanted him turning him into a hearie.
@kalijasin A "Hearie"? You obviously must believe in separation of race, sexes, and probably peoples IQ. I have no time for people who segregate groups of people for no other reason than because they believe one is "better" than the other. I only allowed your post to be seen so people can observe for themselves how belligerent people can be. We are talking about a young boy getting the chance to hear his family, music, and the entire world. You are trying to hold him back. You should be ashamed.
@kalijasin Why not change them? Are you so pathetic that you need some kind of advantage over people in life? Or does some sick religion (the two words are basically synonyms) tell you that being deaf is a gift from god?
Thank you for posting this, I think that more people needs to see movies like this. Things like hearing the wind on the beach is something almost all of us are taking for granted. But when I see movies like this, I realize that I should be more grateful for everything that I've got. I am glad to hear that this beautiful boy are doing good now, may God bless him!
Hello! Thanks for the movie. It is four years since this film was shown. How are things going for him today? I am interested in how he is in school. Regular school or? Do you have a movie?
@TheStralie He is 9 years old and headed into 3rd grade. Phoenix is so verbal, happy, an advanced reader, and loves to make movies. He is doing so well! Thanks for your interest about him. I hope to make a follow up movie soon! Best, L.
Hello LoganArtFarm, How are you doing? How is your son's CI so far? I saw your son made his own vlogs. I read the Deaf people's negative on your son's CI. That's not nice of them! Your son look like sad because of Deaf Culture's hateful of CI. The Deafhood made a vlog to mention about your son's vlog. It make Deaf people are angry at you for implanted your son. It's not their business nor not up to them. You have right to decide do best for your son.
You have understand that DEAF poeple's with different title. I was ex-cochlear implants before, but it was not working. reason dr. was found out my Coclear part is close "block" that mean very full Deaf so happy.. 16 channel lost and 6 inside in Coclear bec4 block clear! Clear!
This little boy is adorable and I'm glad he seems to be having a good life. But the one thing I am irritated with is that you (or the parent, if that is not you) seems to think that the only option for him to have a good life is this implant. How was this implant the only option as stated in the video? Did you not consider buying a sign language book and enrolling both of you in classes? It appears that you wanted him to hear to be more like you than you were willing to learn his language.
@ksmithmeredith Trust me, teaching a deaf child to speak and listen is MUCH harder than learning ASL. We wanted him to be able to express himself verbally, and sing and go to public schools. He can do all those things! So now we have learned ASL. The best of both worlds! He can choose what form of communication he wants. We gave him this option with the CI's early in life.
It's good he can hear now... but what about the deaf culture he's missing out on...? He's still not "normal." ASL should be given a chance in his life at some point should he be interested...
Was he at Great Wolf Lodge?! Awesome ;D Such a cute video.. but I wish the music was turned down when it showed actual footage.. it's hard to hear (even for those of us born with hearing) what is being said over the music :c
im 21 and i am going deaf im more of severely profound right now but im offered to get this surgery done but i hear a lot of negatives about the cochlear implants. Is it true are there negatives or will it all be fine getting implants?
@vinnytheboomer I am sorry to hear that you are struggling with your hearing. There are always pro's and cons. It is much more difficult to achieve quality hearing from a CI after the age of 5. It gets progressively harder as you get older, and the "longer" you have been deaf. Speak with your Doc, and other people that have been implanted at a later age. It can give you access to sound, but it will never be the same as when you had your own hearing. Wishing you the best on your journey. Xo
@vinnytheboomer Do it only when you are really becoming deaf, then you can get added value out of cochlear implants. If you still hear a little, you should keep in mind that when installing the cochlear implant, the ear will be damaged and the process of the installation of the cochlear implant cannot be undone. So it is something you have to be sure of. I am not saying it is a bad thing as it has helped a lot of people, but the condition is to be sufficiently deaf before going on.
@LoganArtFarm, I'm sorry to hear you have had to deal with so much hate and animosity. Unfortunately, for many miraculous new technologies there is a period of distrust. This period does not last long, however. There are already signs of much broader acceptance of cochlear implants even in the deaf community than there used to be. I believe this attitude will not last. In the 70s when invitro fertilization first came out, many if not most people thought it was immoral and playing God.
Thanks so much. Yes she had hearing aids but they didn't help at all, so it's great to see how successful they can be, albeit with work, dedication and support. I love this video so much! I'll keep ye posted on her operation. xx
I shared this video on Facebook, hope you don't mind. Big day for my daughter next Wednesday, 2 days before her 2nd birthday. This helps people understand without the technical side. Thanks xx
@lorraineamurphy I don't mind at all. My hope was to give thanks, but also to help other families along the way through their journey, too. Keep me posted on your daughters operation. Has she been aided before the implants? Big hugs to all of you, L.
@MannyO1995 Manny, the deaf culture thinks that Cochlear Implants are basically "evil". They have been battling me for years, and I have gotten a lot of hate mail about it. I have decided not to post the majority of the negative comments, but once in awhile I let the deaf culture share their options. They live in a small world and can't see out side their bubble. They don't see the benefits of SOUND. Right there, that should be enough said. The deaf that only sign are a dying culture.
Oh my Lord!! This video is a full of it! They just edited this video and fool you. It is NOT MIRACLE! CI kill so many many babies. It's the truth. CI cause deaf people suffer with headaches... dizzy... health problem. I am totally deaf and thank the Lord I am deaf because GOD create deaf people that way. Doctors play with hearing parents' minds and brainwash doctors. CI can hurt your health!! Some hearing parents refuse to accept their deaf culture, then they're SELFISH!
@jj3dartist The only madness is that there are people in the deaf culture that can't see both sides of this equation. ASL is NOT the only option. Parents have options now. My family is not deaf. Most of the people I come in contact with everyday, are not deaf. Giving my son the opportunity to hear, speak and listen is a gift. He has OPTIONS in his life. He will always be deaf, but he can choose. He can sign AND speak (perfectly). I'm educated not brain washed. Show me the stats on "dead babies"!
@LoganArtFarm you said sign and speak perfectly? LOL!! speak can't be perfectly. I have a several deaf friends who have CI..... they are able to speak but CANT BE PERFECT! they struggle what hearing people talk about. CI causes them headache... and health problem. not mine. i am just so fine. GOD give deaf people gifts. SATAN give people CI as gifts.
@jj3dartist I am allowing your post to be published just so the world can see what type of insensitive, and ll-informed person you are. That way no one in their right mind would believe a word of your post. My son speaks perfectly. He was implanted at age 2 and we've worked for hundreds of hours to help him. Guess what? They are REMOVING him from his 30min once a week speech class because he tests PERFECTLY. Interesting, huh? He has no headaches, or health problems. And no, Satan wasn't his Dr.
@LoganArtFarm sure keep telling many lies all you want to. You can tell many lies all you want to. I am sure this kid grows up and find out who he is in the future. I know you people help deaf children to get C.I., but you DESTROY their deaf culture that GOD already gave them.... but you rebel against GOD's gift for the deaf children. It's the TRUTH, that sooo many many deaf people on Earth are AGAINST C.I. You sure will see.
@jj3dartist What lies?I am only reporting the truth for our family, and my son. I know some of the deaf culture are against C.I.'s. I've been harassed by their vile language for years. They stand behind the argument that I destroyed his deaf culture. Not seeing it as a positive addition to his life. And if he was born with poor eyesight, you would expect me to withhold glasses from him? Protest in front of "For Eyes"? To HELL with the 5 senses! And if you have diabetes, no insulin for you! Yeah!
@LoganArtFarm alright when your son grows up.... he sure will ask you... like "why have you done to me?" . what's wrong with hearing aids? we deaf people never complain about hearing aids. i used to wear hearing aids before. i was never complained, but noise drove me crazy! C.I. is dangerous to health! Doctors lie to you. Doctors said it's miracle, but they lie! they want your money!
@jj3dartist He will never ask, "why have you done this to me?" about his CI's. It's too obvious. It's not an intelligent question, and my son is highly intelligent. He already knows the answer at 8. I am sorry that you can't believe that he is a happy, well adjusted deaf child with a Cochlear Implant. It's that simple. It's not evil, it's not painful. It's normal to us. And to hundreds of thousands of other people. Hearing Aids were of no use to him after he lost more hearing at age 2.
@LoganArtFarm ok whatever you say so. good luck to you with your son. a lot of older deaf people were not happy with it....so they went to hospital and removed CI. they felt much better. they're happy now.
@jj3dartist OLDER deaf people and a young 2 yr old do NOT have the same results. Do the research. The earlier you implant, the better the success. It will never be the same results for a deaf person who is older. The brain is too "mature". A young brain is flexible. One must have realistic expectations when getting an Implant. It is not a "miracle" in itself. It takes years of hard work. Therapy, and patience. The results CAN be spectacular. Phoenix could be a poster child for the best outcome.
@LoganArtFarm ... oh tell you something. all doctors know it's very dangerous, so they hide the truth. they want to convince you it's a miracle. it sure help your deaf child to talk just like a hearing person. a sign of money on their eyes for wanting your money.
@jj3dartist Yes, there are risks. We spent months researching the process, and the surgery. Did I cry when he was in surgery? Yes. Did I worry? Yes. Was it scary? Yes. But that went away quickly and now I have a deaf child that can speak and hear as HE WISHES. I wish you could meet him. He is wild and happy and articulate! The doctors make a choice to be part of an incredible process that helps children hear. Only a person against the CI would label them as greedy. They are heros to us.
@LoganArtFarm ... alright i must blunt with you. if i was in your son's shoes...i will rather to remove CI and feel much better than being suffered. i don't like being looking like a borg from star trek. CI on my back of the head look REALLY UGLY!! teenagers sure will mock at me and pull my CI off and break it. some bully guys at high school beat me up... head injury because of CI inside. so much suffer.
@jj3dartist You are just a cruel person. Ugly? Really? Have you seen kids in a wheelchair, or w/braces on their legs, or glasses? Would you have the audacity to say those children looked UGLY? YOU are the bully. Attitudes like your perpetuate negative behavior in this world. Not just about C.I.'s , but I guarantee you that you are a judgemental man that is truly sad inside. You are picking on a happy deaf child that has something attached to his ears to help him hear. Be ashamed of yourself.
Who cares if it's ugly? The child has been given the gift of music, the chance to learn the spoken language, has had the social barrier to the rest of the world that deafness tends to offer completely removed, and gained the ability to be more aware of the world he lives in via the medium of sound.
I'd say a tiny bit of "ugliness" is absolutely worth it, considering all the benefits. And to refuse this kind of chance due to what some "mean kids" would do smacks of pure cowardice.
@ogith And they are not that ugly! The design is actually cool. I think so. I'm an artist and it appeals to me. Also, I know what it does. How could I think this small device that offers so much to my child, could be "ugly"? So shallow. He explains to new friends and strangers that "they are his computers. They help him hear". Lots of kids run to their mothers, "When I am I going to get MY computers?! I want little computers too!"
Some people are just too shallow and filled of foolish pride to take joy in a child being given the gift of sound, and the chance to experience the world to a far fuller extent than they themselves did.
Some people just take the Deaf Culture too far, and rather than simply seeing it as the remarkable structure of contact, aid, and social networking the deaf community enjoys, try to turn the whole thing into some kind of "Us vs Them"-deal against the hearing world. Sad, really.
this is sucks he will miss his true culture and c.i. cares about money not deaf people and i am a deaf and i recommond people dont get like that stuff. too many deaf people get it STOP THIS MADNESS!!!!!!!!!!
This is such a wonderful video! You have so incredibly beautiufl children and I thank God that your son has been helped so greatly with CI-implants! God bless you all.
What a lovely video and a beautiful looking boy. my son has bilateral cochlear implants also which he had at age 2 and a half and he is now 9yrs old. Giving him the chance to hear again(lost hearing to menningitis) was the best thing we could do for him. His hearing/ears WERE broken and now he can access speach, and loves listening to music which he never could if not for the implant.
I was ex-Cochlear Implant 14 year old to 16 year old, give up. The Oralism make ruined my deaf education delay. Now I m against Oralism or Agbell destory Deaf Kids Education for future: mean Kids are more learn use spoken language than edcuation, that why look me was education late! Smile. and Deaf pragram at hearing school is Not good for deaf kids. and DEAF School is so best for deaf edcation use ASL and Bilingual
You video about made me cry. You made such a great choice for your son, and I'm so happy for him. You have beautiful kids, btw! Best of luck, and congratulations. :)
Sometimes people aren't so fortunate to be part of one culture or another. 2000 years ago, anyone that was blind, deaf, mute or any other kind of disability would eventually end up dead- the rule of survival of the fittest. In this world we live in today it's still a dog-eat-dog-world. I've endured 17 years being a social outcast never fitting in one place or the other. This Friday I get an evaluation to see if I'm a candidate for Cochlear Implants. Please, pray that I am.
@AlexiGavidia Thank you for sharing your story with us. It sounds like you have struggled so much with your hearing loss. I hope that you write back and tell me how the evaluation went. It will be a long road for you (especially as an adult getting an implant) but nothing should stop you! You write beautifully and I looked at your animation website... so talented! My husband and I are both artists. I wish you well, and thank you for reaching out. Phoenix would love to meet you!! Best of luck, L
@AlexiGavidia I'm curious, how old are you? because I was told people later in life could not get cochlear's because their brain would not be able to comprehend sounds and/or speech.
When it comes to the Bible, a lot of people take things literally. Yes, we are all beautiful the way we are, but it doesn't mean we can't change things about ourselves. We change homes, we change clothes, it's all outward appearances. What the Bible tells us is exactly like that saying "Look at yourself in the mirror, and tell yourself that you're beautiful." What the Bible implies is beautiful is really our soul, each unique, each a part of something bigger than itself.
I went to high school, and I went to university and I cried so many times because no one could ever understand me. I had to beg for help. No one understood my pain. My hearing problem caused problems in my relationships with my friends, with girlfriends and with family members. Some people hate me because they think that when my back is turned and they talk to me that I'm ignoring them. Some people think I'm lazy. It hurts me every time someone tells me "never mind" when I ask again and again...
I'm 23 years old and currently I have a 95% hearing loss. I'm legally deaf even with my hearing aids. I received my first hearing aids when I was 6 years old and I shunned them when I was little because I was embarrassed of them. As I grew older my hearing got worse, to the extent that I couldn't even function properly in society without them. I have always lived in the between two worlds and it made me miserable. My mother also had a hearing loss but hers was never so bad as mine...
I think its great to have the option if you want it and if you do not thats ok. My I am deaf and HOH with blindness and near sighted. My hearing is getting to be bad enough to recieve cochlear implants but I am choosing to wait for now.
Anybody who believes that being born deaf is a "gift" from God is a fucking retard. Anybody who is against helping those with hearing difficulties is an asshole.
I've struggled with hearing loss, and ear diseases my whole life. It is not a "gift", it's a disadvantage. Clearly the "gift" is actually being able to hear.
The stupid ideas of some people truly infuriate me at times. What next, people smashing their glasses so that they can have the "gift" of blindness?
@YspudY I was born hard of hearing and I'm loving it. My hearing is going fast, and still have no problem with it. Being part of the Deaf Community is an amazing thing. And I'm pretty sure people in the Blind Community are happy being who they are.
Before I start, I'm happy for your family's choice! I am not against your choice, but I am against it for myself! I am perfect the way I am! I don't need HA,CI, Stem Cell. I am supposed to be deaf. I dont need something I never had. It would be like asking you if you want a tail. Why do you want a tail? Why do I want to hear? So I can be like you? Most hearing people just want me to be like them. I just want to be like me. That includes being Deaf & other things too!
@123nickiv I think a tail would be very helpful! Monkeys can hold stuff with their tails, a furry one like dogs have would be great for dusting, fish use their tails to swim super fast... it's all about how you look at things!
I am a parent of a deaf child. It was difficult finding out that Jamie couldn't hear me. No I love you's, no good nights, good mornings...It was hard to deal at first. I decided to pick up a book and learn the art of American sign language. He adapted extremely fast to sign. He learned his first word at 3 months old..."More" I was so thrilled! I have always wanted the best for him, since before he was even born. When he was 3, he received his surgery. He is now 5, and learning so well with them.
Beautiful story, and what beautiful children. And for those with negative feedback, it's a choice- there's nothing wrong with being deaf, but there's nothing wrong with changing it if the options are available either.
I'm 100% for parents choosing what they think is right for their child, but I don't understand why the CI was "the ONLY option". You do realize the only reason he had no access to sign language was because you CHOSE to NOT learn it. Remember, when he takes off those implants, he's deaf. I know people that grew up with CIs and eventually put them in a drawer and forgot about them. So when the day comes that he decides he wants to learn ASL and be Deaf, I hope you can be just as supportive.
@iamtralfamadoreWhat right do u have to judge. i decided to implant my son who was born deaf at age 20 mths old. best decision i could've made. the look on his face when i sing to him, watching him dance to the SOUND of music, not just lights on toys. he also uses SEE which i feel is more appropriate than ASL.if he chooses he can take it off and be deaf. but why rob him of oppurtunities that he wouldn't have had. many in deaf comm. would coose CI if the comm. wasn't so shallow minded. Love CI.
@nucleus5x1mom I agree with the SEE thing, ASL is beautiful but really has a poor effect on the literacy skills (particularly in writing) of many (NOT ALL so nobody freak out on me here) of those who use it as is evidenced by several posters here! With SEE you learn the same grammar as in spoken English.
it just never made sense to me why so many people are against the cochlear implant. why is it a bad thing the anyway? honestly i just dont know. i think science and medicine should be used to help us. isnt that the point here? if someone could explain this to me i would greatly appreciate it. :)
@summerfae The deaf community believes that being born deaf is a "gift" from God. To change a child that is deaf, is to believe they need to be "fixed" as if they are "broken". The deaf believe they are fine just they way they are. Our point is that we are not out to fix my sons soul, just his ears. Cause they ARE broken. Not his spirit. If he had poor vision, wouldn't it be ok to get him glasses? The deaf with their old fashioned beliefs are a dying breed. There are options & people want them.
@LoganArtFarm I have to disagree with you on this. I am hearing and I have several Deaf family members. It is not so much that being born without the ability to hear is a gift but the culture they are born into, just like being born American is considered a gift by so many. In my opinion cochlear implants are seeing as such a negative because they threaten Deaf culture. No one wants to have someone else say their culture should not exist, which is why WE fight against it.
My first cousin, who lives 10 mins away, is an ASL interpreter and the head of a large local deaf program. She comes to my house once a week to teach my whole family sign. All three of my children sign. I recognize the importance of ASL. My son is deaf, and he loves sign. But you must understand, ASL is a 2nd lang. for him. The fact that our deaf son is so articulate & verbal shows tremendous strength from him, & from us. It gives others hope. That's what this video is about.
@iamtralfamadore Since you decided to label our approach of communication as a "disgrace", I will not continue to assume that you are a person with any manors, or any sense of what it is like to be a hearing parent of a deaf child. This "disgrace" you speak of has helped my child 1.speak perfectly, 2.attend mainstream school, 3.Act in his school plays, 4.talk and socialize with most people in our society, and 5.decided when he wants to be deaf or in the hearing world. Our son is happy. Period.
@iamtralfamadore I have been asked this question dozens of times over the years. If I had the chance to redo the video, I would make this clearer to the viewer. We were following the Auditory Verbal approach, and they recommend NOT signing with your child until they start speaking. It's easier to sign than listen and speak. When his hearing fell to profoundly deaf (age 2) he didn't KNOW sign cause we were using hearing aids to listen. I knew how to teach him sign, but he didn't know any then.
wow when he was saying the alphabet in this video his speach sounded perfect. I struggled for so many years to get it right, its wonderful he is so young and can have such great speach with the coclear implants. Did his wonderful speach come right away or did he have to work hard at it?
@OutcastEntertainment We worked very hard at his speech for years. He barley even qualifies for speech anymore! His speech is excellent. Thanks for noticing :)
i was the same and i have had it for 9 year and i am 11 now does he take his cochlear implat of when he is in the mood i sometime i did alot when i was younger
@iamtralfamadore he was 2 when he was implanted.... Why would you call anyone lazy with a beautiful story like this? He isn't deaf he can hear and now has verbal skills.... is someone jealous?
Hi i was born deaf as well and at the age of 18 months i got a cochlear implant and became the youngest boy in the state of FL to recive one. I graduated speech in the 1st grade and recently i became one of the best deaf speaking children in america. Right now i am in the 8th grade and im sooo thankful for this amazing creation. Ive played takle football, soccer, basketball, and lax and i have learned something with this CI is that nothing can stop me from what i want to be in the future. Thanks
@TheKrazyBros wow!!! i actually can't believe you tell a big lie about yourself. you fixed the story that make people to believe you so they borgize deaf children with CI. wow i can't believe you actually tell a big lie. whoa!!
=( awh i scare to gettin Cochlear Implant=( i am deaf too, but i only got hearing aids but i still scare to get cochlear Implant, but i want to hear alot better like out world=/ but i only 18 year old now but if i dont like it i might cant hear for risk my life it huge changed for that but i have to take it risk it tho
@superdeafboy123 I lost my hearing and got implants on both sides and can tell you I have never been able to hear as well as I do now. Everyone is amazed.
This makes me so unbelievably sad and angry! All that money and time spent trying to make him hear and all the parents had to do was learn ASL. He would have been much happier/smarter/successful had he learned ASL. That was his natural right and it was taken away from him. There are no stats or percentage of success of CI's documented but parents implant there children anyways, it's so absurd! If CI's are so successful than why wouldn't the FDA have that on record? They're hiding real results!
@brianaott. Sign is good, but most people in the world do not speak sign, the child knows sign and speaks it as well, how is someone supposed to sign on a phone call? I'm sure that technology will be available in the next 5 years. CI's are amazing and they are the way forward if someone wants their child to hear. I say "their child" because it's completely the parent's decision for optimum effectiveness Why must people focus on an interpretable script, that we don't know the full story of.
My nine year old cousin is profoundly deaf, and he too has bilateral cochlear implants. It was the smartest decision my family has ever made, and I want to commend you on giving your son the most amazing gift this world has to offer. You opened his world to sound, and for all of those out there that do not think it is right, they obviously haven't seem the smile on a child's face when they hear their family tell them they love them. You're son is absolutely precious, and a miracle.
Please contact me I want to get this for my little girl and would like to talk to you about it if possible. Contact me at babymangu@yahoo.com please. thanks
I've been told (by a Deaf person BTW) that these cochlear surgeries HURT! =( remember these surgeries were invented by "Hearing" Dr's. = / the best thing for Deaf individuals is to Learn Sign Language! there is NOTHING wrong with learning ASL.
@loveHuera81 A small amount of pain for a short time, to be able to hear for a lifetime? You do the math. My son can hear AND sign. He has the best of both worlds now. He will always be deaf. He has the option to be in both worlds. That is our job as parents: give your children options. The world is his oyster, he can do anything.
@LoganArtFarm to my finding, CI only help deaf to hear SOME and not (fully) HEAR to level with hearing people (huge gap). In legal view, CI don't help deaf to level with hearing people. So please stop telling people that CI help deaf to hear but to hear partly. CI is useful for post lingual deaf and not pre lingual deaf. So what did they tell you? Did they use post lingual deaf to ads for parent of pre lingual deaf? If they did, then they are out of complying with federal law about EHDI.
@podsaich Let me get this straight... you are telling me that a person can't learn to distinguish sounds with practice? I do think that is what a baby has to do from the git go? I agree that as you get older it is harder, but never impossible! This is one amazing story and all the neg comments are just plain dumb.
@podsaich You message is the one that is misleading. a child that is implanted before verbal skills are required have about as good of a chance, with practice, that a person with SOME hearing impairment have gaining the same skills. Your thoughts are yours, but not mine. If it weren't for this great technology I wouldn't be jamming out to music right now.
I found nothing inspirational about it. just another family who wanted their Deaf child to hear. I think you should have waited until he was older and let him decide if he wanted CI or not. everyone has a right to make their own choices.
thats just my opinion not like it matters to anyone due to the fact most do not listen. i think hospitals should stop makin a quick buck off of CIs and give new parents with a Deaf child the truth and experience Deaf Culture
@tnafan007 It doesn't bother me one bit that you are not inspired by my video. Over the years I have inspired thousands of families that are in a similar position as us. If one was to research the C.I., they would understand that there is a very limited window to achieve the maximum benefits of the implant. The younger you implant, the better the affects on the child's brain (where we really listen). The longer you wait, the harder it is. We made a choice for him, and he is thrilled. So are we.
@LoganArtFarm we don't have facts, yet, about younger you implant, the better the affects on the child's brain. It's what they think. I need to see that source if you come across that. According to U.S. Dep. of Ed found that deaf children learn through CI, hearing aids, etc. cause lagged in development skills. So, I rather wait until those children who did got CI at younger age will tell us when they in 20's or older. do you know the different between post lingual deaf and pre lingual deaf?
@LoganArtFarm I am one of those people that it has helped. I was implanted 6 mths ago and was back at work a week after my second activation. To think that someone is against something as amazing as this just boggles my mind. I thought it was a very beautiful and amazing story. Cheers!
@tnafan007 Why wouldn't they want their deaf child to hear. When he is older he can take it off if he wants to. Oh yeah, the truth.... he is a very happy successful deaf child with the ability to hear with this amazing technology. CI's are here to stay. If your comment represents the culture he is missing why would he want any part of it?
this video really gives me hope.. my little cuin is deaf and we are considering the cochlear implant... is there another option where you cant see the actual piece on the outside... also did the doctors recommend to wait until he was 2 and 7months, my baby cousin is 20 months. any suggestion or ideas
@dralldaii809 The only option is for a device to be attached to the head. Maybe in 10 years they will have something else, but this is the best technology out there. They are getting slimmer as the years go by. Re:implantation, they do them as young as 12 months! CHeck with your doc. Biggest point: Do NOT wait. Time is of the essence. The earlier they get the Ci, they better the results. Good luck!! xo
The greatest blessing my parents gave me as a deaf person was to allow me to learn sign language simultaneously while also learning speech. Contrary to what many hearing professionals will tell you, it does NOT interfere with the child's ability to learn speech, but does enhance their ability to learn language. Numerous studies have been done that refute this. :) :) Just thought I would share since there are others with deaf children. Best wishes!
Choosing an implant is indeed a difficult choice. I do want to make mention of a few things, however. Please note that I am a Deaf person. I chose an implant for myself as an adult. If my son was deaf, I would choose the same for him. I am also a sign language instructor. For a short time, I was also an in-home mentor for families with deaf children who are learning sign. I am glad to hear that you are willing to let him learn sign language now. see next post for continued
I really enjoyed watching your video and congratulations on the toughest decision that a parent has to make. My son became deaf at 17 he is now 23 he had his 1st implant done at 17 and at 19 he decieded he wanted the other he is now bilateral and it has brought so much wonderful things his way he started college and there is nothing stopping him so once again coming from a mother who also made the choice to help her child hear again stay possitive and God Bless
A wonderful tool for the hearing impaired. As I tell most people I meet that this is not a cure, it is a tool, similar to glasses. No matter what ... our boy will always be deaf. But he can hear and is already starting to speak. 1st implant @ 12 months old, 2nd implant @ 22 months old. He just turned 3 and is doing great. GOD BLESS!!!!!
Just a quick note to share how much your video touched me. Our son was also born deaf. He also failed the screening in the hospital. We also had him wear hearing aids for several months before we discovered the option of CI.
Honestly don't let people get to you. As parents we have given our children a choice to hear, to be a part of our culture. To hear the birds sing, laughter, an 'I love you'. If at any point in their lives they choose that hearing is not enjoyable they can turn the implant off. Noah is doing really well so far. Activation day was October 12th. Check out our video at 'Noah's Cochlear Implant Journey 2010'. Your video was so inspirational to me & I hope we can give inspiration to others.Take care!
@ErisFae Email me if you have more questions or want to talk. Just keep loving him and research all your options. Anything is possible! Hugs to you, Lexi
@IsmeldeiSedai Are you hearing? I hear the crunch of the snow when I lay in it, or the wind that carries the snow through the air. It's subtle, and lovely and special. Poetic perhaps? Up to you to decide. All I know is that I knew he could hear it. Whatever it may be.
You realize w/o the implant he can't hear ANYTHING!!! He's a beautiful DEAF child with hearing machines on him. If they break or anything happens to them... he can't hear. I would really encourage you to take sign language classes and teach him. Cochlear implants are not the end all be all. They are simply machines and machines break or go wrong. Please accept your son's Deafness for his sake b/c he's not hearing like you or me. He'll be happier for it.
@IsmeldeiSedai You are telling ME that my own son is deaf? Thanks for the update. Very helpful. I am the one that bathes him, teaches him, plays with him, takes him to swimming classes, feeds him, watches him in his school plays. Who do you think you are? Do you think that I am that naive? We have done endless research on the Implants. We see doctors and professionals regularly. And you think I don't accept him? He is the center of my world. We love EVERY aspect of him. You are the naive one.
@LoganArtFarm I starting losing my hearing at the age of 9 and went completely deaf at 15, I didn't get my CI until i was 23. I'm now 29 years old and the only thing I regret is the fact my parents refuse to implant me when I ask them to and instead stuck me in several deaf schools where I struggled for a long time to accept my deafness as a fact of life. If you believe you doing what's best for them, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I have 3 myself and would make the same decision as you.
@csmoreira02881 Thank you, thank you, thank you. I do believe it was best for him. He is so full of life, so happy, and has the option to take the CI's off whenever he wants. He will always be deaf. We just believe

You should love him enough to also learn sign language and add that to the story.
the13thwizard 1 month ago

ChuckMasonTV 3 months ago
Some of the responses here astound me....

Kuriix 3 months ago
To hear that approaching car.
To hear a crackling fire.
To hear that person sneaking about.
Kuriix 3 months ago
wow allot of deaf people seem to react very jealous of these implants are they extremely expensive or something?
Ofcourse as a parent the better choice is to give your child this opportunity to hear the child will always be deaf but if he can hear good enough to know what sound is what you have not only given him more opportunities in the world but you have also gave him more safety.
Hearing things is not only for communication it's for our own protection.
To HEAR danger.
Kuriix 3 months ago
ASL used to be the only viable option and CIs were a gamble. That's no longer the case. Deaf Culture and sign language aren't dying, they're just changing and THAT'S OK! This is my favorite CI video, and PART of the reason is because of the beautifully chosen song that I HEAR when I play it!
iamkristen5 3 months ago
wow, i have to say, the comments on this video infuriates me. i am deaf myself, use sign-language as my main mode of communication. i grew up with deaf people - cos my parents are deaf, deaf culture, sign-language. deaf people can be seriously narrow-minded and very opposed to cochlear implants. i totally understand because the deaf world is "dying". but there's no point trying to go against it. but other people also don't understand the value of the deaf world and why some don't wanna hear.
katthescarymonster 3 months ago
If you don't want to hear, cover your ears. If you don't want to see, close your eyes. When it comes to making a choice for your child who is born blind or deaf in a world of sight and hearing, I think it is child abuse to not give your child every opportunity to function as well as possible in this world.
grmidnight 4 months ago 6
I can't say I agree with your choices, I'm hard of hearing and my hearing is going fast. You should have waited until he was old enough to make the choice himself. Learn Sign Language. Deaf culture is beautiful, but now that has been taken away. I don't prefer to speak but I can speak just fine (speech therapy). I'm not saying you did the wrong thing, but instead of changing him why not learn FOR him?
MizuhoAiyu 4 months ago

End of story.

kalijasin 3 months ago
@kalijasin I am not delusional. My son is deaf. Just because he has Cochlear Implants doesn't meaning that he will ever be a hearing person. He lives a deaf person with Implants. He thinks he's deaf. He's proud to be deaf. Would you tell him to his face that "he isn't deaf" ?
LoganArtFarm 3 months ago
@LoganArtFarm I sure would, but he would not understand me since he has no true deaf identity. He does not mix with other deafs and is not fluent in american sign language. You have took all that away from him when you implanted him turning him into a hearie.
kalijasin 3 months ago
@kalijasin A "Hearie"? You obviously must believe in separation of race, sexes, and probably peoples IQ. I have no time for people who segregate groups of people for no other reason than because they believe one is "better" than the other. I only allowed your post to be seen so people can observe for themselves how belligerent people can be. We are talking about a young boy getting the chance to hear his family, music, and the entire world. You are trying to hold him back. You should be ashamed.

Your son look like sad because of Deaf Culture's hateful of CI. The Deafhood made a vlog to mention about your son's vlog. It make Deaf people are angry at you for implanted your son. It's not their business nor not up to them. You have right to decide do best for your son.

It appears that you wanted him to hear to be more like you than you were willing to learn his language.
ksmithmeredith 6 months ago
@ksmithmeredith Trust me, teaching a deaf child to speak and listen is MUCH harder than learning ASL. We wanted him to be able to express himself verbally, and sing and go to public schools. He can do all those things! So now we have learned ASL. The best of both worlds! He can choose what form of communication he wants. We gave him this option with the CI's early in life.
LoganArtFarm 5 months ago 2
It's good he can hear now... but what about the deaf culture he's missing out on...? He's still not "normal." ASL should be given a chance in his life at some point should he be interested...

im 21 and i am going deaf im more of severely profound right now but im offered to get this surgery done but i hear a lot of negatives about the cochlear implants. Is it true are there negatives or will it all be fine getting implants?
vinnytheboomer 6 months ago
@vinnytheboomer I am sorry to hear that you are struggling with your hearing. There are always pro's and cons. It is much more difficult to achieve quality hearing from a CI after the age of 5. It gets progressively harder as you get older, and the "longer" you have been deaf. Speak with your Doc, and other people that have been implanted at a later age. It can give you access to sound, but it will never be the same as when you had your own hearing. Wishing you the best on your journey. Xo
LoganArtFarm 6 months ago

MannyO1995 7 months ago
@MannyO1995 Manny, the deaf culture thinks that Cochlear Implants are basically "evil". They have been battling me for years, and I have gotten a lot of hate mail about it. I have decided not to post the majority of the negative comments, but once in awhile I let the deaf culture share their options. They live in a small world and can't see out side their bubble. They don't see the benefits of SOUND. Right there, that should be enough said. The deaf that only sign are a dying culture.
LoganArtFarm 7 months ago
Oh my Lord!! This video is a full of it! They just edited this video and fool you. It is NOT MIRACLE! CI kill so many many babies. It's the truth. CI cause deaf people suffer with headaches... dizzy... health problem. I am totally deaf and thank the Lord I am deaf because GOD create deaf people that way. Doctors play with hearing parents' minds and brainwash doctors. CI can hurt your health!! Some hearing parents refuse to accept their deaf culture, then they're SELFISH!
jj3dartist 7 months ago
@jj3dartist The only madness is that there are people in the deaf culture that can't see both sides of this equation. ASL is NOT the only option. Parents have options now. My family is not deaf. Most of the people I come in contact with everyday, are not deaf. Giving my son the opportunity to hear, speak and listen is a gift. He has OPTIONS in his life. He will always be deaf, but he can choose. He can sign AND speak (perfectly). I'm educated not brain washed. Show me the stats on "dead babies"!
LoganArtFarm 7 months ago
@LoganArtFarm you said sign and speak perfectly? LOL!! speak can't be perfectly. I have a several deaf friends who have CI..... they are able to speak but CANT BE PERFECT! they struggle what hearing people talk about. @jj3dartist I am allowing your post to be published just so the world can see what type of insensitive, and ll-informed person you are. You sure will see.
jj3dartist 7 months ago
@jj3dartist What lies?I am only reporting the truth for our family, and my son. I know some of the deaf culture are against C.I.'s. I've been harassed by their vile language for years. They stand behind the argument that I destroyed his deaf culture. Not seeing it as a positive addition to his life. And if he was born with poor eyesight, you would expect me to withhold glasses from him? Protest in front of "For Eyes"? To HELL with the 5 senses! And if you have diabetes, no insulin for you! Yeah!
LoganArtFarm 7 months ago 4
@LoganArtFarm alright when your son grows up.... he sure will ask you... like "why have you done to me?" . what's wrong with hearing aids? we deaf people never complain about hearing aids. i used to wear hearing aids before. i was never complained, but noise drove me crazy! C.I. is dangerous to health! Doctors lie to you. Doctors said it's miracle, but they lie! they want your money!
jj3dartist 7 months ago
@jj3dartist He will never ask, "why have you done this to me?" about his CI's. It's too obvious. It's not an intelligent question, and my son is highly intelligent. He already knows the answer at 8. I am sorry that you can't believe that he is a happy, well adjusted deaf child with a Cochlear Implant. It's that simple. It's not evil, it's not painful. It's normal to us. And to hundreds of thousands of other people. Hearing Aids were of no use to him after he lost more hearing at age 2.
LoganArtFarm 7 months ago 2
@LoganArtFarm ok whatever you say so. good luck to you with your son. a lot of older deaf people were not happy with it....so they went to hospital and removed CI. they felt much better. they're happy now.
jj3dartist 7 months ago
@jj3dartist OLDER deaf people and a young 2 yr old do NOT have the same results. Do the research. The earlier you implant, the better the success. It will never be the same results for a deaf person who is older. The brain is too "mature". A young brain is flexible. One must have realistic expectations when getting an Implant. It is not a "miracle" in itself. It takes years of hard work. Therapy, and patience. The results CAN be spectacular. Phoenix could be a poster child for the best outcome.
LoganArtFarm 7 months ago
@LoganArtFarm ... oh tell you something. all doctors know it's very dangerous, so they hide the truth. they want to convince you it's a miracle. it sure help your deaf child to talk just like a hearing person. a sign of money on their eyes for wanting your money.
jj3dartist 7 months ago

CI on my back of the head look REALLY UGLY!! teenagers sure will mock at me and pull my CI off and break it. some bully guys at high school beat me up... head injury because of CI inside. so much suffer.
jj3dartist 7 months ago
@jj3dartist You are just a cruel person. Ugly? Really? Have you seen kids in a wheelchair, or w/braces on their legs, or glasses? Would you have the audacity to say those children looked UGLY? YOU are the bully. Attitudes like your perpetuate negative behavior in this world. Not just about C.I.'s , but I guarantee you that you are a judgemental man that is truly sad inside. You are picking on a happy deaf child that has something attached to his ears to help him hear. Be ashamed of yourself.
LoganArtFarm 7 months ago
@jj3dartist
And to refuse this kind of chance due to what some "mean kids" would do smacks of pure cowardice.
ogith 7 months ago
@ogith And they are not that ugly! The design is actually cool. I think so. I'm an artist and it appeals to me. Also, I know what it does. How could I think this small device that offers so much to my child, could be "ugly"? So shallow. He explains to new friends and strangers that "they are his computers. They help him hear". Lots of kids run to their mothers, "When I am I going to get MY computers?! I want little computers too!"
LoganArtFarm 7 months ago
@LoganArtFarm

AlexiGavidia 8 months ago
@AlexiGavidia Thank you for sharing your story with us. It sounds like you have struggled so much with your hearing loss. I hope that you write back and tell me how the evaluation went. It will be a long road for you (especially as an adult getting an implant) but nothing should stop you! You write beautifully and I looked at your animation website... so talented! My husband and I are both artists. I wish you well, and thank you for reaching out. Phoenix would love to meet you!! Best of luck, L
LoganArtFarm 8 months ago
@AlexiGavidia I'm curious, how old are you? because I was told people later in life could not get cochlear's because their brain would not be able to comprehend sounds and/or speech.
emptywithoutjesus 7 months ago
When it comes to the Bible, a lot of people take things literally. Yes, we are all beautiful the way we are, but it doesn't mean we can't change things about ourselves. We change homes, we change clothes, it's all outward appearances. What the Bible tells us is exactly like that saying "Look at yourself in the mirror, and tell yourself that you're beautiful." What the Bible implies is beautiful is really our soul, each unique, each a part of something bigger than itself.
AlexiGavidia 8 months ago
@AlexiGavidia Why didn't you get the implants? Your brain is obviously fine.

AlexiGavidia 8 months ago
I'm 23 years old and currently I have a 95% hearing loss. I'm legally deaf even with my hearing aids. I received my first hearing aids when I was 6 years old and I shunned them when I was little because I was embarrassed of them. As I grew older my hearing got worse, to the extent that I couldn't even function properly in society without them. I have always lived in the between two worlds and it made me miserable. My mother also had a hearing loss but hers was never so bad as mine...
AlexiGavidia 8 months ago
I think its great to have the option if you want it and if you do not thats ok. My I am deaf and HOH with blindness and near sighted. My hearing is getting to be bad enough to recieve cochlear implants but I am choosing to wait for now.

i dont understand the part about where the deaf community believes that being born deaf is a gift from God ? is it a burden to hear ? please answer
japanlove4rmcali 8 months ago
Anybody who believes that being born deaf is a "gift" from God is a fucking retard. Anybody who is against helping those with hearing difficulties is an asshole.
I've struggled with hearing loss, and ear diseases my whole life. It is not a "gift", it's a disadvantage. Clearly the "gift" is actually being able to hear.
The stupid ideas of some people truly infuriate me at times. What next, people smashing their glasses so that they can have the "gift" of blindness?
YspudY 9 months ago 22
@YspudY I was born hard of hearing and I'm loving it. My hearing is going fast, and still have no problem with it. Being part of the Deaf Community is an amazing thing. And I'm pretty sure people in the Blind Community are happy being who they are.
MizuhoAiyu 4 months ago
Before I start, I'm happy for your family's choice! I am not against your choice, but I am against it for myself! I am perfect the way I am! I don't need HA,CI, Stem Cell. I am supposed to be deaf. I dont need something I never had. It would be like asking you if you want a tail. Why do you want a tail? Why do I want to hear? So I can be like you? Most hearing people just want me to be like them. I just want to be like me. That includes being Deaf & other things too!
God bless you and your fam!
123nickiv 10 months ago

He is now 5, and learning so well with them.
safetyinnumb3rs 10 months ago
Beautiful story, and what beautiful children. And for those with negative feedback, it's a choice- there's nothing wrong with being deaf, but there's nothing wrong with changing it if the options are available either.
linzymack 11 months ago
Absolutely amazing.
menny825 11 months ago
I'm 100% for parents choosing what they think is right for their child, but I don't understand why the CI was "the ONLY option". You do realize the only reason he had no access to sign language was because you CHOSE to NOT learn it. Remember, when he takes off those implants, he's deaf. I know people that grew up with CIs and eventually put them in a drawer and forgot about them. So when the day comes that he decides he wants to learn ASL and be Deaf, I hope you can be just as supportive.
undeadda 11 months ago
@iamtralfamadoreWhat right do u have to judge. i decided to implant my son who was born deaf at age 20 mths old. best decision i could've made. the look on his face when i sing to him, watching him dance to the SOUND of music, not just lights on toys. he also uses SEE which i feel is more appropriate than ASL.if he chooses he can take it off and be deaf. but why rob him of oppurtunities that he wouldn't have had. many in deaf comm. would coose CI if the comm. wasn't so shallow minded. Love CI.
nucleus5x1mom 11 months ago
@nucleus5x1mom I agree with the SEE thing, ASL is beautiful but really has a poor effect on the literacy skills (particularly in writing) of many (NOT ALL so nobody freak out on me here) of those who use it as is evidenced by several posters here! With SEE you learn the same grammar as in spoken English.
comtngrl 5 months ago
it just never made sense to me why so many people are against the cochlear implant. why is it a bad thing the anyway? honestly i just dont know. i think science and medicine should be used to help us. isnt that the point here? if someone could explain this to me i would greatly appreciate it. :)
summerfae 11 months ago
@summerfae The deaf community believes that being born deaf is a "gift" from God. To change a child that is deaf, is to believe they need to be "fixed" as if they are "broken". The deaf believe they are fine just they way they are. Our point is that we are not out to fix my sons soul, just his ears. Cause they ARE broken. Not his spirit. If he had poor vision, wouldn't it be ok to get him glasses? The deaf with their old fashioned beliefs are a dying breed. There are options & people want them.
LoganArtFarm 11 months ago
@LoganArtFarm I have to disagree with you on this. I am hearing and I have several Deaf family members. It is not so much that being born without the ability to hear is a gift but the culture they are born into, just like being born American is considered a gift by so many. In my opinion cochlear implants are seeing as such a negative because they threaten Deaf culture. No one wants to have someone else say their culture should not exist, which is why WE fight against it.

@iamtralfamadore
LoganArtFarm 11 months ago
@iamtralfamadore Since you decided to label our approach of communication as a "disgrace", I will not continue to assume that you are a person with any manors, or any sense of what it is like to be a hearing parent of a deaf child. This "disgrace" you speak of has helped my child 1.speak perfectly, 2.attend mainstream school, 3.Act in his school plays, 4.talk and socialize with most people in our society, and 5.decided when he wants to be deaf or in the hearing world. Our son is happy. Period.
LoganArtFarm 11 months ago

Did his wonderful speach come right away or did he have to work hard at it?

phaze101200oo 1 year ago
This makes me so unbelievably sad and angry! All that money and time spent trying to make him hear and all the parents had to do was learn ASL. He would have been much happier/smarter/successful had he learned ASL. That was his natural right and it was taken away from him. There are no stats or percentage of success of CI's documented but parents implant there children anyways, it's so absurd! If CI's are so successful than why wouldn't the FDA have that on record? They're hiding real results!
brianaott 1 year ago
@brianaott he can always be deaf, but only this gave him the chance to hear. Why would he be smarter or happier not being able to hear?
phaze101200oo 1 year ago

It was the smartest decision my family has ever made, and I want to commend you on giving your son the most amazing gift this world has to offer. loveHuera81 1 year ago
LoganArtFarm 1 year ago 2
@LoganArtFarm to my finding, CI only help deaf to hear SOME and not (fully) HEAR to level with hearing people (huge gap). In legal view, CI don't help deaf to level with hearing people. So please stop telling people that CI help deaf to hear but to hear partly. CI is useful for post lingual deaf and not pre lingual deaf. So what did they tell you? Did they use post lingual deaf to ads for parent of pre lingual deaf? If they did, then they are out of complying with federal law about EHDI.
podsaich 1 year ago 2
@podsaich Let me get this straight... you are telling me that a person can't learn to distinguish sounds with practice? I do think that is what a baby has to do from the git go? I agree that as you get older it is harder, but never impossible! This is one amazing story and all the neg comments are just plain dumb.
phaze101200oo 1 year ago
@podsaich You message is the one that is misleading. a child that is implanted before verbal skills are required have about as good of a chance, with practice, that a person with SOME hearing impairment have gaining the same skills. Your thoughts are yours, but not mine. If it weren't for this great technology I wouldn't be jamming out to music right now.
phaze101200oo 1 year ago
@loveHuera81 That is not true. Of course there is discomfort, but not as much as you would think. I was implanted on both sides at the same time.
phaze101200oo 1 year ago
I found nothing inspirational about it. just another family who wanted their Deaf child to hear. I think you should have waited until he was older and let him decide if he wanted CI or not. everyone has a right to make their own choices.
thats just my opinion not like it matters to anyone due to the fact most do not listen. i think hospitals should stop makin a quick buck off of CIs and give new parents with a Deaf child the truth and experience Deaf Culture
tnafan007 1 year ago
@tnafan007 It doesn't bother me one bit that you are not inspired by my video. Over the years I have inspired thousands of families that are in a similar position as us. If one was to research the C.I., they would understand that there is a very limited window to achieve the maximum benefits of the implant. The younger you implant, the better the affects on the child's brain (where we really listen). The longer you wait, the harder it is. We made a choice for him, and he is thrilled. So are we.
LoganArtFarm 1 year ago 20
@LoganArtFarm we don't have facts, yet, about younger you implant, the better the affects on the child's brain. It's what they think. I need to see that source if you come across that. According to U.S. Dep. of Ed found that deaf children learn through CI, hearing aids, etc. cause lagged in development skills. So, I rather wait until those children who did got CI at younger age will tell us when they in 20's or older. do you know the different between post lingual deaf and pre lingual deaf?
podsaich 1 year ago
@LoganArtFarm I am one of those people that it has helped. I was implanted 6 mths ago and was back at work a week after my second activation. To think that someone is against something as amazing as this just boggles my mind. I thought it was a very beautiful and amazing story. Cheers!
