the think i admired most about captain beefheart, besides his music, is his open rejection of formal education.....something i deeply sympathize with.
duh, it wasn't talent per say, but a combination of will power and vision. An American original appreciated more across the pond. Responsible with Frank's help at forming a fun, creative and honest sound with lots of bumps, twists and turns...not to mention Humor...HELLO! His work can tell a story most could never consider or contemplate in TEN-THOUSAND YEARS(if you don't believe me, try to come up with something original, good luck).
behind the roxy theatre at my house on the hill. They would not let us ontherox, so we went higher to my house. and snorted valum you know those innocent pills for kids. pink do nothings it was fun for nothing, he use to say once in santa cruz once before going on stage most people are hamburger. I gave him a book from ezra pound on stage in a break with thick as a brick, i gave him ezra's book of poems and the next day ezra died in italy. i checked time zones it was the same moment!
Parses6, get back to whatever manufactured crap you "listen" to and leave the real music to discerning minds. To quote Andy Partridge, "at the disco, everything you eat is waste, and swallowing is easy cos it has no taste'
@Parses6 Erm ... he was talented in sculpting, painting, singing, lyric/poetry-writing, composing and performing (on several instruments). If it's not to your taste, fine, but his talent was undeniable.
@Parses6 How come, if he had no talent, he managed to influence so many other bands? The Captain was an absolute genius. I'd be somewhat interested to know what your idea of talent is.
when i woke this morning and heard the dog fart,i grabed my harmonica

I do like Amon Düül II, but what are they doing in a Beefhaert tribute video???
Why not use the man's own music?
