Good but cannot top the satirical comedy value of the Chief Exec of NewsCorp investigating the editor who was in charge at the time of the phone hacking - who of course was herself.
It's a shame Rupert Murdoch technically owns House. NBC Universal make it - but Fox bought it. I'm sure if the subject of Sean Hannity or Bill O'Reilly came up, Laurie (along with Seth MacFarlane and Matt Groening) would be the first to delicately annunciate the disclaimer, "Other news sources are available."
I'm not entirely sure if the old man is a direct reference to it, but I can tell you that this skit is a spoof of "It's a Wonderful Life", the classic Jimmy Stewart christmas film.
@crabhat1 haha that's okay. That deleted comment above you said exactly the same about it being Australian, but got deleted by the user moments after posting :)
haha, funny sketch. and stephen fry openly admits that rupert murdoch is his least favourite living person on earth. i guess it is a reference to him as non2002 said.
Well, that's pretty genius.

C'mon Rupert, show you're generosity and donate $10,000,000 or £10,000,000 to the East Africa Relief Fund.

I love when Fry tries to do an American accent. He fails terribly but it's sweet or something. What a great show.

They've missed off the bit at the end where Fry shakes his head and says 'twat' ;-)

I must find a situation in which I can say "Get me the cock out of here," as soon as possible.

Kinda interesting that Mr Murdoch now ultimately signs Hughie's pay check, isn't it? ;-) Doesn't make the sketch or House any worse, though.

i love this sketch, especially stephen's funny american accent... it sounds more like his northern accents...

@artvandelay13 - The original actor in the part was from Northern England.

It took me a couple of minutes to realise that Hugh was actually playing Rupert Murdoch. Hilarious!

forgive me if this is a stupid question, but whats with the shocked old man at the start?
does that have something to do with the actual movie this is a spoof of?

God.... just realised this a reference to Rupert Murdoch. The Australian accent, newpaper congolomerate owner, Wapping/Times takeover.

And this was a couple of years before he created Fox News.
