  • What in the hell were they thinking???

  • Were people dumber back then. Seriously, a rebadged Cavalier? C'mon!

  • I know a lot of responsive 2 liter engines, but Cimarrons 88hp Hrrmm "powerplant" probably isn´t one of them!

The typical power of a 2 liter diesel here in europe is in the 150 hp range, and the low end torque is about the same as a small block V8!

Had a -99 Mercedes E220CDI for a couple of years. With a chip I got like 170 hp, and all the torque needed for safe passing at any speed. The anti spin system was well needed!

  • "Responsive..."

    "...2-liter engine..."

Those two words shouldn't have been in the same sentence.

  • How the hell could anyone want to buy this piece of crap? It can't even make it as a classic, noone would take it for free.

  • STSV is the last real Cad

  • @pedalpunk..they are doing it right now w Catera V and EVERYBODY is drinking the koolaid. Its an 'upcoming' Camaro ZL1 is Alllll it is w a 'art/design' styling pack and fibre optic interior lighting(my '89 irocz had similar lighting inside) LS motor is not a caddilac not is the 3.6 camaro engine

  • People would have been really depressed to buy a Cimarron...I mean...it's the automotive equivalent of a penile implant....it gets the job done, but it's not the real mccoy..

  • In my part of the world (Sweden) this is an overloaded, badly put together version of the German made Opel Ascona (Or Vauxhall in the UK). I have never driven a Cimarron but I have seen lots of them in the "bone yards" in the US!

Who ever came up with the stupid idea of making this "baby Cadillac" should be punished!

I have a -57 Coupe de Ville myself, and that´s a real Cadillac!

  • I wouldn't be surprised if that 4-banger engine had almost as much power as their 4.1 V8. Pretty sad era for Cadillac.

  • @VinylToVideo Well, Cadillac's 4-banger engine could never produce as much horsepower, but I wouldn't be surprised if another company's four-cylinder could be as powerful as their 4.1L V8. Yes, I agree it is a sad era for Cadillac. I think nowadays, their designers fell in love with their 3rd grade rulers. There isn't a round edge on the cars now.

  • I didn't mind Cadillac getting their own J-Car but in retrospect, this really was a case of GM's 1980s one-size-fits-all hubris on full display. Glad that nowadays, a Cadillac is back to being a Cadillac...

  • Christ how antiquated, I don't remember UK cars looking like that in 1984 all be it smaller they were alot more modern than that, and for the American friends amongst us no we don't use horse and cart (buggy) in England we've moved on abot since the industrial revolution, but if gas keeps increasing the way it is we will be going back to horse and carriage

  • an overpriced Chevy Caverlier or a Pontiac J-2000 was all it was no wonder it lasted only eight years

  • Comment removed

  • I don't know if this was their answer to the 3 series which had to have been selling well even at double and triple the price of an average american car. It just ended up giving the marque a huge black eye.

  • @spazzman90 It probably wouldn't have sucked as much if it had a 3.1 or 3.4 v6 engine....I dunno.

  • @pedalpunk57 the 3.1 and 3.4 were yet to be produced when this car was new. And i use the word car very loosely

  • @mikeys316 I agree. It's amazing how Cadillac could think that rebadging a simple Cavalier as one of their own would make people think that they were getting a good deal. Wonder why you never see at least one Cimmaron on the road? Because they were crap. A Cavalier Z24 with a 5 speed manual and V6, on the other hand I wouldn't mind.

  • Lol....Every 80s commercial I see has a dreamy and and impractical appearence to them. I especially love all the smoke at the beginning. This commercial make you feel that all your problems are solved by the Cimarron.

  • What's with all the white smoke all over - is it on fire? This was a huge mistake for GM. I used to like GM - those days are long over.

  • I guess J for 'J body' stood for Junk. Smaller dream, huge nightmare!

  • This car was maybe the worst decision GM ever made. I bet people who bought these told everyone they owned a Cadillac.

  • They mention it having an onboard computer as if that is something special. What did it have?

1 kilobyte? It probably had less than a cheap digital giveaway, fast food joint toy watch, that just tells the time. Also, what exactly is that indentation in the middle of the backseat? It looks like it has already been through some use and it is brand new !! What are those metal things in the back of the front seats and on the sides? ashtrays? just what I always wanted.

  • "responsive 2.0 liter engine" What the fuck. Like winning a little dick contest.

  • the 82 was the one with the junk 1.8 brazilian engine in it. on the used car market say in 1990 this wouldnt have been a bad car to own. Its a softer riding more luxurious cavalier.

  • What a POS!!

  • The smaller dream...more like nightmare!

  • why fork prenium dollars with something that only has 82 horsepower and acres of plastic and fake leather and wood..Idk you wasted your money dumb fuck

  • the engine on the 1982-1988 Cadillac Cimarron

    Engine

    1.8 L OHV I4

    2.0 L OHV I4

    2.8 L 60° V6

  • @ejsecco did it drive/ride smooth?

  • That's not from a fog machine, it's a head gasket failure

  • @rwdplz1 I never saw a toyota or honda. Did iI miss it?

  • @rwdplz1 LOL!!

  • @rwdplz1 LOL!

  • @rwdplz1 Hahaha. Your comment made my day!

  • wow, what a supreme piece of shit.

  • When asked by a car magazine...Roger Smith the GM president...what is the difference between the Chevy Cavalier and Cadillac Cimarron...Roger Smith said..this.....About 5,000 dollars!!! WHAT A FUCKING IDIOT....GM YOU SUCK. YOU HAVE ALWAYS BUILT CARS NO ONE WANTS!!!!

  • @Bluepersian1994 Yeah...lol

  • The Cimmaron was ahead of its time. It was a technological marvel.

  • @somewhatlongdong you take too much drugs

  • @klepetar nah, not enough!

  • Frankly I disagree. Although obviously not to everyone's tastes, I drove one once and I loved it!

  • CTSV is the opposite of Cimmaron. Thank God.

  • I got me a cadillick

  • i had a 89 cavalier with the 2.0L... just look on my channel i have a 0-140kph on there from it... i needed a very long stretch of road to accomplish that lol

  • All that steam is coming from the radiator

  • @pav777tube HAHAHA!!! LOL! This was a true dogshit car. GM lost all sense of pride with this turd.

  • THE GREATEST CAR EVER MADE

  • Even the dashboards are similar to the Cadavalier. Badge engineering went way too far with this one.

  • Whoever thought up the idea put a Cadillac badge on that piece of shit should be shot.

  • My wife had a 1985 Skyhawk when we got married, it was Buick's version of the Cavalier. It was not cheap and had numerous problems. Overpriced junk. At least she did not spend more for the Caddy version and get ripped off even worse.

  • @bretron I Have a 1985 Skylark. Which was a Better Much Nicer car. Mine is near mint condition. what problems did she have with It? was It new?

  • The cimarron was a cavalier with minor changes. If you merge the two names you get cim-alier.

  • Which is the bigger pile of shit...Dodge Neon or Chevrolet Caviler?

Ima gonna hav to go with the caviler..At least the Neon had 130 HP and a turning radius shorter than a dump truck lol

  • @Bertisevil666 Caviler is garbage, but Neon is hands down the worst car ever built.

  • This was the worst Caddy ever.

  • Oh... We didn't actually have one. We had Volvos. I think GM thought that by making cars boxy like Volvos and Mercedes, they could fool people into buying American again. Surely they knew that people were buying German and Scandinavian cars because they were not flimsy death traps, like American cars. Then, ford ate Volvo and GM ate Saab. They bought the companies to kill them. So, we started buying Lexus.

  • @megaswenson

so how exactly is an american car a flimsy death trap ill wreck my 78 T bird into any volvo you have. Bring it on!

  • My Mom called it the Cinnamon Stick.

  • What a LEMON this piece of shit turned out to be.

  • Everything Cadillac in 1980-92 was called "Cadillac Style" clearly this is no cadillac style

  • I had an '87 V6 Cimarron back in '91 or '92. Actually, it gave us literally no problems over 4 years of ownership. Nice ride, decent build quality for a glorified Cavalier. Maybe I lucked out, but I can't gripe.

  • My mom had the 1980's Cavalier when I was growing up, a rather shite car :)

  • this was my first car.

  • they actually had the balls to make a commercial for this rolling turd

  • They did so little to differentiate the Cimarron from the Cav, it was embarassing.

  • Maybe the most insulting car in history.

Posters of this should be passed around in car design school with the caption, "Never again."

  • Piece of junk-rebadged Cavalier.

  • @78logistics Our family's first car (in my life) was a Chevy Cavalier. I had no idea for a long time that there was a glorified Cavalier named the Cimmarron. Apparently it's for the children of luxury drivers.

  • @78logistics Indeed. May Cadillac NEVER forget.

  • That car was an insult to Cadillac

  • Someone took one of these to my dad's transmission shop about 18 years ago to have it checked. He never came back for it.

  • Also known as the:

    Oldsmobile Firenza

    Buick Skyhawk

    Chevrolet Cavalier

    Pontiac Sunbird

    Opel Ascona

    Vauxhall Cavalier

    Holden Camira

And people wonder why the American auto industry is in such hard times.

  • *history*

  • biggest flop in hostory, well the catera was similarly a flop along with cadillac's v-8-6-4 and diesels but they made plenty of good cars just not any of the mentioned ones, lmfao

  • @bluefever2009 I've heard the Catera was a living nightmare, and they were built by opal. true or false. i know the diesels were garbage, but i didn't here much about the V-8-6-4. But come on, you gotta give Caddy credit for opening the door to variable displacement engines. At least to American cars.

  • @themaytagrepairman yeah back then the dealers with that 4 6 8 crap, they would make the car run always on 8 ... so the complaining and whining would stop from people that were born in 1915 ... in Florida, of course. The idea was good, but a dumb system.

  • That cheap-ass looking K-car was a Cadillac? Eat shit!

  • @patchesdf K-cars were built by Chrysler, not GM

  • @themaytagrepairman It still LOOKS like a K-car, and there's no excuse for that. Especially for something that calls itself a Cadillac.

  • @patchesdf Actually, the K models where larger than the Cimarron. But it's amazing what the american car companies will try to sell as a top shelf Brand. I had to laugh when i saw a 1983 Caddy DeVille wih a V6 engine. I thought are you shittin me?

  • Another GM piece of shit.

  • aaaaaaaaaarghhhhhhhhh those red seats

  • All that smoke coming out from under the car. Hmmm.

  • "Let's take a Cavalier and put Cadillac emblems on it, yeah... that'll work out great!" ~ Dumb Asses at GM.

  • I don't understand. I had an 85 cimarron and I loved the damn thing. 6cyl automatic. I got it in 06 from an old man for 500 bux...it had 84,000 miles on it. Great car, until it was stolen :-/

  • @TheTannerKleinhen By 1985 (last year I believe, or 86), that had improved a lot of things.

  • @TheTannerKleinhen Most people who owned one back then liked it very much. Just those who never owned one are usually the critics. This car was not an unreliable piece of garbage like most people (who never owned one) claim it was. If I had the choice between an 85 BMW 3-series or a 85 V6 Cimmarron, I'd choose the Cimmarron without question.

  • It was a smaller dream. A terrible dream. One that Cadillac was more than happy to wake up from.

  • Badge engineer'd turd

  • a dream to own? more like a nightmare to own LOL

  • Over glorified Chev Cavalier yuk!

  • "A dream to own.... A nightmare to drive..." It's hard to believe anyone fell for this car in the first place. I mean, even one look at the dash and you'd think they would have kept on moving....

  • I sold "Cadillacs" back then. None of them were Caddies but especially this over priced piece of junk. It was a Cavalier with leather seats. The large Caddies had Olds gas engines or that abortion GM diesel. It was the beginning of the real downfall of Caddy. They never did rebound. To this day you can buy a Northstar V8 and it will drink oil before 100K miles. Add to that GM is now owned by the UAW and you have overpriced junk that has no resale. Pathetic . . .

  • @jake97760 Did you ever feel guilty selling them ?

  • @JoshuaTaylor I felt VERY guilty selling that junk. I moved to a Chevy/Olds store and their products even though GM had reliable engines and a Cavalier was sold as a Cavalier. . . . Much happier there believe me :-)

  • @jake97760 That's good to know. Frankly, I've found our local Caddy dealer to be remarkably honest folks. I recently inherited a 1999 Catera w/ only 19,000 ( !) miles on it. But, the a/c was shot, and of course no battery would hold a charge, so I bit the bullet and took it to the dealer. Much to my surprise, the mechanic said, "I'm not going to lie, you've inherited a piece of shit, but we're gonna do our best to keep it running for you for as cheap as possible !" And darned if they haven't.

  • @jake97760 you sold Cadillac in 1984.? Nice

  • All it is was a Cavalier with Cadilac symbols on it

  • OH WHAT JUNK YHEY WERE...At the end of the day it was still a cavalier

  • A 4 banger Cadi.

What a shame, what a shit box.

  • A DREAM TO OWN!

  • the 1982-1988 Cadillac Cimarron was assembled in

    Janesville, Wisconsin, United States

    South Gate, California, United States

  • Sporty handeling? WTF that was a cavalier with corinthian vinyl inside

    worst car for the 1980'era

  • Even though it was a long time coming before this car, THIS is when GM completely jumped the shark.

  • This is what happens when an automobile manufacturer tries to hoodwink the public and the public sees right through it. Nice try, GM, we figured it out.

  • The high water mark for Detroit arrogance.

  • The best thing about this commercials is the fake smoke surrounding the car. My god were the commercials in those days CHEESY as hell!

  • isnt this basically a chevy citation? lol

  • @themx83 Cavalier... lol. Even worse

  • @teedot The cimmeron WAS the Cavelier!

  • @itsmegp46 no duh, that's what i said....

  • @teedot Doesn't matter. It still is.

  • @itsmegp46 clearly you cannot comprehend English.

  • i intend to buy one second hand. what should i know about the performance and the fuel consumption?

  • @hellspawn0391 That it will just like a Chevy Cavalier of the same year

  • @carloscabrera08 can u be more specific? i dont know hows the cavalier-chevy

  • @hellspawn0391 i had one that was really decent...it had the fuel injected v6...digital dash...(didnt work all the time) but mechanically reliable. it got about 25 -28mpgs..it had a bad reputation but my experience was not negative.

  • The Cadillac Cavalier

  • I have a 83 Cavalier Conv, gets 30 mpg and has awesome air conditioning won't win any drag race but who cares with gas $4 a gallon.

  • BMW or Mercedes pricing. Blatant Cavalier looks and performance, tarted up with sub-Corinthian leather and Delco's finest tape muncher. Hubris come Cavalier (TM) disrespect for American consumers. A willingness to extol faults, down to the agricultural decade-old 2 liter motor. Leyland was executed for more venial sins.

  • Cadillac Cimmaron: a Chevy Caviler with leather seats, Cadillac emblems, and a ridiculously higher price tag!

  • @ThatDevilsBlue yuppers. and really nothgin cadillac was known for. ( decent power, decent handling. , ) it did have a higher price tag but ehh it was a rebadged cavalier. no more, no less

  • certainly not sporty

  • LMAO a referbished Cavalier

  • I have this car and it is CRAP. The braking is not responsive, the acceleration is not good at all since its top speed is around 70-80mph. My engine broke down so I had to do a engine swap with a v6 in it, if that's even possible.. and it overheats way too fast. The only feature I like about the car is that the fact I bought it for $700 with good stereos equipped with a sub.

  • In Europe it was Opel Ascona

  • I want to buy one just so I can get the weird looks. I'm sure I can pick one up somewhere for less than $1000. :P

  • @336kgf far less lol.

  • LOL, Cadillac Cimeron!!! Nothing but an over-priced, over-rated, over- advertised ....and under-performing, under-luxurious and under-built POS Chevy Cavalier!!! Cimeron, the Cadillac that wasn't!

  • @Timbrock1000 This was GM's answer to the critics who felt all they ever made were boats that got 10mpg on the highway-maybe.

  • @336kgf Ok, point taken, but it was still a joke! I mean, if Cadillac really wanted to make something other than those land yachts, they should have started from scratch and made something to compete with the likes of BMW 3 Series or Mercedes instead of rebadging and dressing up an eco-weenie peppergrinder car like the Chevy Cavalier. At least Cadillac made a better shot at it some 15 years later with the Catera, and then really hit a home rum with their current CTS!

  • LOL! 2.0L! FWD! What an insult to Cadillac fans. :<

  • It was hard to take GM seriously after this auto disaster.

  • Dad had a coupe version of this, wasn't very fast but it actually could outrun a few imports on the 0 - 100km dash.

  • Cavalier Ultra

  • it's a loaded Cavalier with a Cadillac badge.

  • They were so ashamed that it's the "Cimarron by Cadillac" not the "Cadillac Cimaarron"

  • looks like a Holden Commodore

  • @hamster700 Was marketed in Australia as a Holden Camira.

  • I had on of those cars and it only lasted 40k before the electrical problems that no one (including the dealer) could fix and it ended up being enough to sell the thing.... Wasn't very impressed with that car at all... i think it was an 87 or 88

  • OOH, LOOK, a rebadged Cavalier!

  • @Excalion88

    Yup, it's the Cadvalier.

  • I owned one second hand in 1995.A 1984 4 cylinder Cavalier with the Cadillac emblem. Probably the most problematic vehicle i ever owned.I drove a friends 1988 6cylinder Cimarron and that was a very responsive car.Remember the auto industry was downsizing its vehicles in the late 70s thru the 1980s.People were not driving SUVs and other gas hogs. (Chrysler had just introduced the mini van in late 1981).

  • It was nothing but a Chevy Caviler along with other GM look a likes.

  • What a joke! GM couldn't be more insulting, and any buyer couldn't be more foolish.

  • the 1982-1988 Cadillac Cimarron was assembled in

    Janesville, Wisconsin, United States

    South Gate, California, United States

  • over glorified Chevy Malibu...No thank-you, If I ever wanted a Caddy? It'd be a 1963 De Ville or Se ville Convertable with a 429 v8

  • @RFKFANTS67---Not even! At least the Malibu was RWD, body-on-frame, and had a V8 available. This "Cadillac" was just an over glorified Chevy Cavalier. By the way, your dream Caddy of choice is excellent....but the '63 still had the 390 under the hood. 1964 was the first year for the 429. As for me, I've always liked the formal luxury of the 1965-1996 Fleetwood Brougham sedans. (Especially the 74-76 Talisman)

  • And yet to this day, idiots out there are still falling for for gm crap! Oh well, I guess there's an ass for every seat!!!

  • @Mrphatbastard1 You mean like the people that buy stuff like Chevy Tahoe's and put Cadillac Grills and decals on it to give the impression that they actually own a Cadillac.

  • @sketchyinc Yes, and to think there are people out there who actually look up to the name Cadillac! They think their the same quality cars that were made back in the 30s through the 60s. Thanks for the comment.

  • Cavalier with leather seats, I saw one once they are pretty rare, not many people bought into the idea that this was a Cadillac or even a junior Cadillac, of those they sold most were deeply discounted. A Cadillac Calais from the 70's is almost as bad, a Chebby Malibu with leather seats and a Cadillac grille, at least then you could still buy a real Cadillac land barge.

  • I echo what someone else said... They shouldn't have rushed the Cimarron into production like they did. If they gave more time to come up with Cadillac's own design (instead of basing it on the Chevy Cavalier) and added a standard 6 cylinder from inception I think it would've been a way better car. And the asking price was just ridiculous.

I can't say that I hate this car, however. There's somthing about it... ;o)

  • I hate this and the escalade and the caddilatchback.

  • while it wasnt as good as other cars, i liked this car

  • Appalling.

  • That engine wasn't responsive at all.

  • GM Gave Cadillac A Very "BAD" Name When They Brought This Out. Leave That To Chevrolet & Pontiac. No Wonder Ford Is "Killing" Them In Sales & Design.

  • If only they would have waited until 1985 to release the car they might have had better success with it. Every year they tried changing the grill, rear tail lights etc to make it look more important. It wasnt until 1985 when the front was lengthened and a 2.8L V6 was made optional that the car deserved to use the Cadillac badge. By then it was too late. While the J-body car platform was a huge success, the Cimarron was not.

  • wow, a chevy/cavalier/cadillac/cimarron, lol

  • They still keep one on display so they remember how bad a car can be. Not kidding.

  • It's a glorified Chevy Cavalier.

  • This car was a total piece of shit. One of GM's lowest points. Funny thing is I was able to use a brand new one in 1984 for the summer. I beat the crap out of that thing and had a blast doing it.

  • @javaxsqft Did you rent the car In 1984? Just the Beat on It haha

  • @jakesaintsrow123 No it was literally a loner. Someone actually let me use it for the summer.

  • @javaxsqft Oh Wow haha.. So did you enjoy it? or just Beat the SHIT Outta the car? What car did you own yourself and were driving in 84'?
