There is, but as you can probably guess it is way harder due to less selection without them.

You can still trade carats for astros though,

but you might get scammed.

Default is freaking amazing in boss mode..

But there are reasons for it, and on the scroll he used it also had that reason (good damage combo that isn't knocking down or just don't finish combo).
