you can use all the same techniques on canvas as you can with poster board. Also I have never had to pre spray a gesso'ed canvas and get the same results as I do on poster board.

I do these things on canvas. However, plain canvas won't work with spray at all.

I put 3 coats of clear varnish on my canvas before I start spray painting.

You need something glossy for it to work.

Even on non-glossy poster board the result isn't as good, dark colors will seem lighter because of absorbing.

Even if the canvas has a coating of gesso on it? Or is in board form? Just curious.

Yes but beware that there is a bit of give in the canvas

It all depends, like you can do a super detailed one and it could take half an hour, or you could do a quick one and it only takes a minute. This one probably took 20-30 mins (guessing..)
