Having watched a lot of striking sessions, it seems the more educated partners are better able to take the punch AND show less emotional strain about it, they are trained to diffuse it & recover faster.
Read somewhere the technique is to push your breath downwards so that when the punch hits you release the air in a short breath and also move hips, torso to untense the body, to relieve it of pain faster
Tensing up, resisting on contact is a way to get more hurt. Relaxing the body does the trick.
I don't in any way defend the kind of behavior that jackarf1 reported here.
But I wonder if Kevin would agree with the way he described the incident.
As a college teacher, students talking when I am talking is something that makes me very angry. I find it very distracting, and it messes with my concentration and presentation. It is as if I am painting something with care, and someone kicks it over casually and destroys it.
I don't defend it, but I can easily understand the anger.
@HughSlaman Agreed. I don't tolerate rudeness or disrespect in my school either. However, we have a higher standard being that we're dealing with martial arts. Still hard to believe. That is not the Kevin I knew.
Yes, I'm the one he's hitting. Not everyone goes down or gets winded. I'm not obliged to say anything. I don't belong to his organization nor anyone else's for that matter. I was there to learn what he had to offer. The guy I stepped in to rescue is a Marine and has since joined his organization. Don't think he would have done so if he it was fake. Lastly, there's nothing more obvious than a live experience. Recommend you locate him and ask your questions directly. Don't forget to film it...
I'm not skeptical as such, just being plain honest with what is obvious to see... Aren't you the very person getting hit there and not flinching the whole time...? You tell me, were those hits having any effect on you or are you obliged to say his strikes were effective? After all, if he's a colleague of yours, it may be politically correct to say his strikes were hard when in the clip, it's obvious that you don't move and you don't go down, when everyone else is getting winded. what's t deal?
This was helpful but there seems to be a problem to the whole idea of a seminar on 'strong and penetrative' strikes when we can see clearly that the guy he's striking at the end, presumably the local teacher, is smiling. That is to say the strikes are neither penetrating or strong to a guy who is clearly way shorter than the seminar instructor. This poses a credibility problem. Although the explanations are clear, the effects don't seem anywhere near as powerful as claimed.. false advertising?
@kingofaikido A few things: This wasn't a strike seminar. No one's smiling... everyone is studying. The strikes were penetrating and strong. He is available to test if you're that skeptical.
This was actually the best explanation of these type of strikes I have found on the tube. I am curious about straight strikes (punches) using this system. Thank you for this video.
@KaizenTao err... respectfully, no. i know how hard these strikes are, so for the guy (you, perhaps?) to just eat so many of them without folding up is rather impressive.
@jackarf1 Sadly, that is what most uninitiated viewers assume. I don't blame them, as most YT clips showcase the brutalization of students... standing completely defenseless and vulnerable. Alas, the purpose is NOT to be beaten but to reduce traumatic fears associated with it. Finding a teacher you can trust is the first step.
@KaizenTao Funny thing is I took a few classes with Kevin. The last class I attended, a guy near me started making a joke and kevin stood up and told me he'd punch me in the face is I made another sound in class... Clearly a real clever teacher he is. I don't recommand Kevin's classes to anyone, regardless of how good he may be. And I certainly don't recommand Systema. I learned nothing. Not a single thing from any of the classes I attended. Btw, I've been in martial arts for years.
@jackarf1 In your original comment you wrote, "Kevin's real knowledgeable, enjoyed learning with him, great guy". Why now, claim you've learned nothing and speak ill of him? I find that to be inconsistent and a bit personal. I'm sorry if he had threatened you in class. Frankly, that's not the Kevin Secours I knew. Btw, I'm not affiliated to him nor Combat Systema.
@KaizenTao It isn't inconsistent. People change. Situations change. He is knowledgeable, I can't deny it. He was disrespectful as well. I find it rather amusing that he would resort to physical threats, which clearly shows quite a bit about him if you ask me.
@jackarf1 Thanks for the clarification and I apologize for seeming to doubt your story. I'm sad that it occurred, and it is very improper to say the least. I guess I'm shocked but not surprised. People do change...

Uh! Who is the hero in green?

@EskymoWelzl No hero. Just another martial artist.

The guy kicks ass, but you don't have to be a dick by beating them all up all the time. They get that you have power and you can apply it.

@21avena Completely agree. There's a point to every demo, to go beyond is to miss it.
