  • i guess im not ment to build a basement on sims 2 or 3.. looks pretty easy but everytime i do it it screws up GAH! i hate fricken leveling crap

  • I always do this when making an underground garage.

  • is there a depth limit cause when i did it on the first attempt the stairs didn't reach the floor but i got it working right now

  • Yay! Thanks so much... i was worried this wouln't work with my Sims 3 for Xbox, but it did! thanks! :3

  • "Please read this before idiotically commenting!"

    Fuck you asshole

  • Thanks!!!

  • I didn't add that inner wall before tiling the floor above. I see. Ooops. My floorplan isn't square & I got lazy.

  • Thankx 4 tutorial! 4 now, I like this better than the basment tool. I ran n2 problems (didn't feel like scrolling if any1 else has asked)

I couldn't put any walls in my alternate method basment w/out the tiles on my flat roof disappearing without any gridlines. I made my basement deep, 4 stairs down, I wanted a vaulted ceiling. I even put a swimming pool down there!

I had to remove tiles from floor above 2 even add walls in the basement & moveobjects on 2 hang stuff on original walls.

  • Can You Help Me With This Question?

I Want To Find Out If You Can Create A Basement On An Exsisting Property And Can I Go About It? Can Please Do Tutorial On It If You Can.

    Thank You

  • Works great with the bootleg version!

  • the basement tool wasnt added in any pack, i bought the base game and i have it. perhaps you should have done the same.

  • @deadlybug I've heard about this. [I believe that] If the game was purchased after the update for a new expansion pack, the basement tool will be included.

  • @TheLighterDark it actually came in a update for the basegame/ eps

  • @TheLighterDark You just have to update it.

  • this video is to complicating i know how to build a basement easy ok do this

use your basement tool make your basement as big as you like

then use the down page thing and you put the stairs where ever and then you have a basement

and then do whatever you want

  • @crechelle11 I repeat myself again. This video was made literally a week after the game came out, OVER A YEAR AGO! There was no basement tool!

  • @crechelle11

    Requies world adventures ^_^.

This is the classic sims 2 way, right (video won't load) ?

  • you know there is a tool right? >>

  • @dennyfrontier The tool was added in the recent expansion pack... this video was made a week after the game was released last June.

    Good try, though.

  • @dennyfrontier I bought this game when it first came out. It always had the tool.

  • Im getting sims 3 and i and going to build a modren house then put it on youtube and im going to have all my stuff in all diffrent ways round

  • same

  • Omg,this helped me so much!!!Thank you!!! :D

  • Why did you build a wall inside the basement?

Can't you color the walls of the foundation? :D

  • this really helped me alot TY

  • Your welcome. :D

  • Thanks, but i can`t have furniture or doors and stuff in the basement!! -.- Thats a BIG minus!

  • Umm, yeah you can.

  • you can....only problem is the tv's volume is rendered as on the lower floor....so basicaly u can't hear the tv

  • can you remove the foundation when your done with the basement?

  • how did u take away part of the foundation

  • Hold "Ctrl" and make the foundation like you would normally. :D

  • i have trouble putting the stairs in. whenever i try it says "Cant level terrain"

  • can i have a basment under my house ????

  • well uh duh

  • the way i made basements was the way i had done it in the sims 2. by lowering the ground with the shovel tool and it worked that way. but in the sims 3 it doesnt work (some improvement the sims 3 is!). so i got a little upset until i found this video. thanks for teaching me. great video.

  • cool this is the best tutorial i've seen you make it easy

  • Well thanks!

  • you dont have to make the wall you could just put wallpaper on the foundation but thanks for the tutorial really helped out

  • Thanks :)

  • looks more like a bunker.

  • What is the foundation that everyone keeps talking about? Is it the deck thing?

  • Foundation = Base.

  • Thanks! Makes a lot more sense now!

  • can u make a video on how to have a evil sim steal candy from a baby or do u only do construction videos?

  • hey thanks for the video but i have a question Say if i have already built a house can i add a basement to it?

  • Yes, you should be able to delete the foundation and use this exact same method.

  • That helps a lot. Thanks for the upload.

  • Your welcome!

  • im sorry but i dont understad this AT ALL....

  • Just look where I'm clicking and watch what I'm doing, have you ever played TS2 or TS3 before?

  • I've been puzzling over this for weeks

    Thanks for the upload :)

  • If I don't want that weird "empty moat" thing around my house, do I level my terrain not quite to the wall? Did that make sense?

Also, thank you for the great videos!

  • You have to have it, you just do, that's what the foundation is there for, to cover it up.

  • will do, thank you! :]

  • Ok thanks.

  • no i mean that uneven part between the basement walls and the ground level, when you use foundation to even it out, it won't level the terrain. if that's what you meant, my bad, but just to be clear. thanks for the fast response!

  • Try typing in "ConstrainFloorElevation True"

  • it will NOT let me put foundation like right on the wall once i have the basement built. i have tried over and over with this way and the other, but it says "can not level terrain" HELP!!

  • You shouldn't be adding a foundation after you build the basement, only flooring to both the main and basement floors.

Hope that helped. Also, check to make sure all the ground you are trying to edit is level, I've noticed a glitch that makes a piece of ground unlevel and won't change.

  • very, very helpful! I didn't know how to do it at all. Thank you for taking the time to make this!!

  • Your welcome!

  • This was very helpful. Thank you.

  • Your welcome.

  • haha you lose so much space doing it that way. theres another way to do it so you get the whole bottom floor. good vid though

  • Yeah I know the other way, I just like to create this way because it creates an actual basement, which is an area of the house used for storage.

Most people in the game want to use it for a floor under a walk in second floor, which is, in most houses, a game room.

  • What happens if you only use two staircases. Can your sim still go down there?

  • No he can't.

  • Aww... I built my house without foundation. I spent so much time on it. Not to mention I'm running out of space. I have the money to do so but I'm just too lazy. Great tutorial though.

  • It should work without a foundation, just use four staircases instead of three.

  • Thanksss.

  • Your welcome.

  • do u think this basement function was intentional?

  • It would appear not, but since it was possible on The Sims 2 and did not change in The Sims 3, they did nothing to repel it.

  • I'm not sure but I think basements mentioned in the lessons. Either way I agree with TheLighterDark. They probably found out about it. Did they know about it in TS2?

  • can you make a basement underground ? that you can't see because there's gras above it and you have to go to the basement layer to see it no faundation and stuff

  • Nope, it's impossible.

As you can see in this video, when I clear out the room for the basement, inside the outer foundation the grass slopes down.

So technically I could remove the foundation and I would have a basement with grass sloping down to it right in front, the foundation is a cover up for that grass.

    Hope that helped, enjoy.

  • and can't you make the faundation match they grass height and then paint the faundation like grass ?

  • No, that's impossible.

  • But you could also put some plants and such around the foundation where the grass slopes down. That can cover up part of it, at least.

  • Good point.

  • No, you can -- I've already done it more than once.

What you can't do is put a foundation if you drag FROM the wall. If you do it starting from the ground itself there's no problem.

  • Very helpful for building newbies! ^^

However, you could've started by lowering the terrain, then build a room starting from the lowest point, then add a foundation around the room. That way you wouldn't loose that precious space between the foundation and walls. ^^"

  • I used to do that method, but it never worked as well as this one did for me.

After all, it is a basement, it isn't supposed to be bigger than the rest of the house! :) Thanks for commenting. :)

  • that doesnt work for sims 3, you can't have a foundation next to a wall in sims 3

  • sorry but its not impossible my mistake, u have to build the foundations first, then take away a bit then build a wall, then put back the foundation and yeah u will save the space between walls and foundation

  • Why did you add another inner square? Isn't it possible to make a basement in the first inner square???

  • Well, yes, it is. However, it's not a wall, so wall lights and phones and whatever won't work.

  • A, yeah, now i see. :) Thx, i'll be sure to use this for some of my houses ;)!

  • Yes, as blood pointed out, the outer square is the foundation, the second square is simply there and must be there, and the third square is a wall, as wall placement objects (such as pictures, phones, televisions, and lights) can not be placed against the wall of a foundation, hope this helped! :)

  • Subbed :D

  • Thanks! I'm going to make more. :)

  • Your welcome.

  • Huzzah! You're the best. Thank you very much.

  • Your welcome.

  • thanks! :)

  • Your welcome!

  • thanks! that was realy helpfull 5/5
