  • Wow i love this style i want one!

  • i have one of these, except i put on a 4-12x40mm scope, these are beautiful gun.

  • well, unless the flash hider has been swaped out for a more modern one, it's not a 1966 production AR15. You'd be off a few years. Yours has the "birdcage" style, while a true 1966 would have the 3-prong "duckbill" style flash hider. The serial # should be in the 5600-8250 range... anything over 8250 was 1967+. I know this because I own a REAL 1966 SP1 with serial # 5800. Still fine rifle ya got there, just not as advertised :) Tell us the serial # range, that'll date the receiver correctly

  • ey could these rifle shoot 5.56 rouns or just .223?

  • A true icon of American Military history. I just wish i had one!

  • That is a vey nice rifle, I have a lot of love for the old colts :)

  • yep its the real mccoy

  • Cool!

  • What range is the serial number?

  • These early AR's must be getting old because I'm starting to like them! That's a sure sign of pending antiquity.

  • I dig those Colt M16A1! SWEET!!!!! Thank God for the 2nd Amendment!

  • This is NOT the first AR-15 model. Eugene Stoner invented the AR-10 for .308. The FIRST AR-15 was an AR-10 with a resized bolt and magazine compartment. It had the wood grip and stock of the AR-10 and the cocking lever for the bolt was inside the carrying handle. This is an M-16A1, the one that replaced the M-14.

  • @MikeNepo He meant the first model family made by colt not armalite.

  • i have that exact model!!!!!!

  • Is that bolt not origional? Its got the cuts in it for a forward assist. At least i think thats what those are for. Anyways nice rifle must be nice to have access to so many different firearms

  • There is also no brass deflector on the a1 :)

    2 cents

  • Your AR appears to be a post-1968 gun indicated by the birdcage flashider (as opposed to the earlier 3-prong type) unless it has been swapped out. Nice rifle

  • damn , no forward assist on a colt., she is old...,

  • @MultiSr16 The SP1 did not have forward assist.

Also, @ Gunwebsites: I do not think that they were using Bakelite for the plastic furniture, but rather glass-impregnated resin.

  • @pixnstix nah nah nah nah nah nah no shit, thats why i said, damn shes old., because i know the old ones dont have a forward assist., thx for nothin pal.,blow me.., ps. id like to glass impregnate your mom,..

  • @MultiSr16 Nice words, cretin. Do you use those fingers that typed that drivel to bang your mother's whore-ass? By the way, does your mommy know you use that language on her computer?

Maybe when you are old enough, you can move out of your parent's basement.

  • @pixnstix my bad man i didnt mean to offend, tty, lixndix

  • This is a xm16 e1, I would not call it "early early AR15"

    greets

  • Wow, now THAT is what I call oldschool

  • I got one too. That gun will treat you right everytime just dont go over 55 grain bullets in that old barrel. I have seen heavy hunting rounds go unstable and hit sideways at 100 yards out of those old 1in12 barrels. mine had the three prong flashhider too before I converted it (with hard to find all original Colt parts) to a SP1 carbine. These are the originals and are wonderful pieces of history to own and shoot. Dont give it up for anything!!!

  • haha a new pmag in an old a1 just thought its kind of funny but nice rifle

  • Were do u get this

  • U forgot 2 mention that it didn't have a forward assist on it. Other wise great vid and sexy rifle.

  • Wow, what a nice weapon! That's awesome that you got to fire it, the only 'vintage' weapon I've put ammo through was a really poorly maintained AR10. Great video.

  • Ah, the ole AR-15 !!! I remember, as a kid, seeing these for sale at the gun store, I wanted one so bad, but they were asking $500 for them,,,, Outrageous !!!

  • Good detailed info. You just about covered everything.

  • I don't know if anyone has mentioned it, but another big difference between this A1 and an A2 is that there is no forward assist and the bolt is a little more new than the rest of the rifle because it has the detents for the forward assist on the side of the bolt. This was an oversight in the earlier model as the bolt face even on the newer A4s occasionally doesn't seat all the way into the chamber lock due to either poor maintenance or harsh environmental conditions.

  • Another major differance nor metioned between this and the later models is the lack of the empty case deflector on the right hand side of the receiver.

  • Nice video, its a really beautifull weapon, and also a piece of history.

    Thanks and keep doing vids.

  • Thanks for the feedback.. about half of our comments are negative, so it's always good to hear from people who are interested in them..

  • I saw one of these in a gunshop for 1800 dollers it had a trapdoor and it even had the threeprong flashhider.

  • It can't be too early, because they did not switch to the birdcage style flash hider until the mid 70's... this rifle would have a 3-prong hider.

  • Well I've read one of your comments, and I am inclined to feel the same way about you

  • at least you stand for the 2nd amendment ill give you that

  • FYI

at 0:20 he says non-trapdoor but a gun shot happens over 'non'

and at 3:27 he clearly says it again

  • @GunWebsites ha. i thaught he was confused when he said that

  • @GunWebsites hahahaha you guys rock Gunwebsites

  • Nice to see a piece of history. If we has some bigger brains in the Military back in the Vietnam era maybe the engineers could have designed a better weapon like the AK-47 (or todays SIG556) with the 7.62. We could have used ammunition cashes instead of blowing them up. The M16 got allot of soldiers killed when it was first released.

  • It was the governments fault for messing with the ammunition powder and changing Stoner's original design

  • You forgot the thousands of un-chromed barrels sent to the front lines too

  • Having un-chromed barrels wasn't the problem, it was the cheaper powder they switched to. The chrome lining was a band-aid to try and fix the problem they created, just like the way they put in a heavier buffer to slow down the cycle rate that the new powder produced.

  • The US military does not use ammo caches that are found dirty and buried... for that matter no professional military force would. With the ability to supply yourself fresh new ammo, why on earth would anyone risk using dirty low quality ammo buried for months under a rice paddy and carried in rain in a backpack from eastbumfuckistan?

  • You would if you was too far in the shit to get resupplied.

  • the only thing not original about that m16 is the flash hider, that one had an A1 flash hider on it and the original had a 3-point triangle flash hider

  • nope..one more thing..note the bcg(i think its been change)

and yeah here in the philippines, we can copy that..all for just under 500 bucks..

  • they didn't mention that there was not bolt force button or what ever it is called. It is usually behind the ejection port and can be pressed to force the bolt closed should the mechanism be jammed with gunk of residue

  • actually we did mention that the "forward assist" (that's what it's called) was not invented yet when these were made..

  • when?

  • doh, I watched it again and he didn't mention it..he did in real life, I must have edited it out, my fault

  • I agree with moleman if you like the older style you can go with a DPMS Sportical. This AR style gives you no forward assist or brass deflecter. You can pick up a carry handle and a front site and your "close" to the original design. There will be no dust cover either...which is fine for a weekend shooter. I believe they are pretty inexpensive to pick up.

Good Vid..love the PMAG (old and new school)

  • I should have bought one of these when I had the chance.

Then again there are a lot of firearms I should have bought when I had the chance.

  • I feel the same way

  • Note to self:

    WIN THE LOTTERY :)

Oh well I have some nice toys and I know I will get more.

  • i think they looked good before the forward assist and chunkey brass deflecter. though nowadays i can trade my AK for a AR so i might just do it. i dig the DPMS models.

  • Is that PMAG form the 60s as well? I knew Chris Costa could travel through time.

  • LOL, good eye, we didn't have the original mag for it

  • Great! *****

    A vintage AR15

    Is it M16A1 ?

  • AN original AR-15 (not full auto)

  • he didn't mention the additon of a forward assist with the evolution of the a1 to the a2

  • 6lbs and 1-12 twist barrel.

  • Looks like my basic training rifle Lol

  • Damn that take me back......

    the 60's wild times...........

    Great review, Great Brand, Colt

A lot of short falls with the early Colts

    2 thumbs up :O)

  • haha classic Nam gun... i want one, just as a collectors item.

  • compare this to the newest M4 / AR15 models, we've come a long way!

  • Thanks.. it was windy and lots of people at the range, but this was a cool AR and worth the distractions IMO

  • Please, both of you don't start this here.
