  • My rope that i'v ebeen using has 2 empty slots in the handles. I put 2-lb weights in there and lord, am i beat

  • Wow! You're awesome, sir!

  • I bought one for £1.99 today but its way too light and doesn't feel as it'd swing very well. I'm also pretty heavy on my feet and don't think I've ever jumped in the past year... I'll give it a go tomorrow though.

  • im doin the jump rope and the stepper machine as my cardio workout laced with abs evryday, im only doin this new routine to get my abs out, whut u think? sum1 wb, thanx

  • jump rope will shed the pounds dude..

  • Is that really true? I've been thinking about jumping as a regular exercise and need to lose the belly.

  • when i jump rope, my feet are aching....i try to do it with my ball on my feet...or with my toes//

  • where in your foot? ive had the same problem once, but i did some kinda stretching and now i dont feel anything. i maybe can help you loose the pain

  • kool... this guy could probably sing an entire song while jumping and not be out of breath

  • how do i prevent myself from jumping higher than nescessary?coz i seem to b jumping waaay higher than that guy in the vid.

  • practice practice practice!

  • Q: how do you get to carnegie hall?

    A: Practice practice practice! o_O

  • jumping rope is amazing! The only thing I disagree with is all you need is a plastic rope with some wight (7dollars) I hate leather ropes(too light) and I have a weighted rope which is crazy(work up to this one). I've tried everything and the plastic is the best, pound for pound. I'm a crazy rebounder now

  • This is good stuff. I recently started running/jogging, but hated it. Now, I think I'm going to go to Sports Authority, buy myself a jumprope, and start jump roping.

  • I Agree With MusicandOutdoors Down there... I USED to be a frequent runner until guys started telling me that its just wasted time and i need jump rope and blah blah blah cuz its faster and what not... Ive tried it... Results are amazing... but now im too lazy to run... Running Is For the hardcore. Rope Is an Easier Way Out and an Excuse. For Good Fast Results... Jump Rope... For The Love Of Fitness... RUN!!

240 lbs to 218 solid muscle in 2 months =) thats my story and im loving it!

  • isnt it better to get a leather skipping rope with wood handles and ball bearings?

  • It kicks ass after the first week of jump-roping, most people at my school think jump roping is a waste of time, well, you know what happened to me after 2 weeks? i lost 12 pounds. I can practically just run around and jump with the jump rope its so much more fun than constantly running, cause your mind is on something else.

  • i just read back and saw a post that said 15 minutes of jumprope burns approx. 200 calories. Can someone tell me if thats accurate?

  • can jump roping help jump higher?

  • i WANT a jump rope

  • Humm yeah great video but it is a bit smug I mean 'start slow' and then he goes off at warp 5 before hitting warp 10 a second later...still the comment below give me hope if I stick with it I too could be as good as you.

  • I have punching bags that I do intrival training with, such as 3 minute rounds, etc. And I run on the treadmill. I could run for about 11 minutes pretty fast without stopping, and punch bags for 20-25 minutes, a minute rest inbetween. Tonight I timed myself on jump rope. 2 minutes felt like 2 hours. I couldn't do it for 1 minute without stopping! I was wheezing like I had asthma. If this isn't the best cardio exercise, I don't know what is.

  • Yeah and the best part, you can bring the rope with you where ever you go!

  • I have jumped for six months. One hour six days a week. During my hour, I jumped one minut and stopped other minut. In total 30 minuts each day.

I lost 1 gram of weigh for each minut. My heart rate was 120 beats/ minut. I used a pulsometes. I am 47 years old, and before jumping I weas a sedentary man. I I spent two months lerning to jump, but finally I succed.

Jumping works very well for me!

  • I have heart disease and irregular heart beat, and i want to reduce my wight and tone my arms, what is the best workout for me?! Thank you in advanced.

  • he makes it look so easy! lol

  • I love this vid

I LOVE the jumping rope workout but I have a problem..

I don´t know in what moment of my life I got used to do it BACKWARDS!! I can even go a lot faster than the trainer.. but it´s so difficult for me to learn how to do it the right way again! I´m still trying though =(

  • what i do is run for a one week then jump rope the following week and keep alternating

  • i have a question please answer......the other day at ppractice for basketball i asked my freshman basketball coach if he could tell me what i needed to work on to improve my playing time....he told me to work on my speed, and i have been jump roping 20 minutes a day and i went back and told him what i had been doing to get quicker.....and he told me its something my body will have to grow into.....im 15 years old, and im 5'5" 100 pounds...is that true? will i grow into more speed???????????????

  • Great guide. But is there any reason to avoid moving shoulders and arms?

  • is bicycling good for your cardio? , i am 17 years old and have been bicycling for 3 years.

  • ok i gotta start working out and cut the garbage foods "fast food" ive gained 40 lbs in the past year and a half

  • fantastic job. I hope one day I will jump like you. Regards

  • When I started running I couldn't run more than a little distance. I switched to skipping and within 3 weeks I can run 30 minutes non stop. I cannot believe how fast it develops your endurance.

  • Thanks for the video. I am a fairly new, but serious runner who wanted to learn rope jumping for warm ups and improved cardio-respiratory fitness. I bought a rope and my first lesson was right here.

  • Ok, first I have to say that rope jumping sure is a nice training, especially when you're just starting of working onnendurance. But if you want to gain REAL endurance, like when you wish to take part in a race or something, you'd better do some running. Don't say it's too hard and exhausting, it always deopends on how fast you're going( just get yourself a partner to run with or, in my opinion, some fast-going music)

    To everyone, ENJOY your training^^

  • question: does jump roping helps hardening your body, coz im a muay thai practicioner and im doing jump rope lately, does it help strenthening my body and resistance from different hits? tnx

  • is that true 10min jump rope= 30 min running i do like 1hr 30 min a day with two layers of shirt for maximum sweating, jumping is not the "easy way" as to some people say, it is serious

  • Some one answer this truthfuly please

    DOES THIS EXCERSICE BURN FAT?

Im Trying to loose belly fat

  • I hated running and would dread having to do it. Switched to skipping and have noticed a huge difference in both physical and mental wellness. Sucks for the first week or so while learning but after that it kicks ass. Love working out now.

  • You know, variation is very important. ^^

  • does this help u grow taller??

  • maybe how old are you?

  • No...? How would jumping make you grow taller?

  • Well exercises work out your muscles about some percentage of work outs increase your muscles bone growth so there is a chance you can gain an Inch or too but it depends on your diet and all that stuff.

  • I find that time ends quicklyer while jumpropeing.(rather than long-distance running)This video made jumpropeing more fun because it added several different feet movements for medium to advanced jumpropers!!!If well-focused,there occurr less snags of the jumprope itself.

  • I lost 2 pounds in a week with just jumping rope 200 jumps. I'm very overweight and I'm trying to build up to 1000 jumps which would be a bout 10 minutes. I like to count the jumps as opposed to time as it makes me feel like I'v accomplished something rather than just doing time.

  • really? i wanna take up jump rope too. 200times a day or what? tell me about it! :D

  • I liked your comment, I haven't started exercising yet. I am quite overweight and I know jumping rope for me will be hard. I am going to do it though.

  • you should be aiming at a minimum of 20 mins when you advance or 40-60 mins for better results. 10 mins is fine atm though. keep up the good work and good luck ; )

  • thats a good idea.. i do jump rope but i've never thought about counting them i usually just go until i absolutely cant find the rythm no more lol

  • i've been running for 16 months now, and i'm used to keeping a pace of 16km/h for 15 minutes.

two days ago, i tried jumping rope for the first time in my life. i couldn't even do it for 2 minutes. that's how intense it is.

  • does this just help you loose weight and build ur leg muscles?

  • both

  • quick feet, agility

  • every kind of exercise will help you loose weight

    even bodybuilding

its the combination of work out and nutrition that makes the difference between building up muscles and loosing weight

  • Oh hell yeah.

  • of course

it does pretty much your whole body

  • lol I know at the end of the video that guy is out of breath, he just doesn't want to show it :O

And, it would seems jumping rope is an extinct exercise. It was a popular exercise for boxers (i.e. Rocky haha). Too bad Boxing isn't what it was back in the day when Ali dominated the ring.

  • I just started to get fit again and jump rope has helped me do that. I do 3,000 skips a day, 1,500, then 5 minute break, get some water, let my forearms rest, do another 1,500, I can usually do it in under 30 minutes (thats my target each time). Jump rope is fantastic, really quick, easy to pick up, and my agility has improved hugely aswel as my overall cardio. top video, everyone get jumpin!

  • I had a NFL linemen tell me that he jumped rope to build explosiveness off the line.

  • does it matter you go backwards or forwards?

  • its one of the best exercises for natural fitness,it costs nothing, you can take it anywhere and u just need a few square meters.

  • you kinda look like Arnold lol

    But really nice exercise

    thanks man

  • kool now i know how much jumping rope really helps, i have a jump rope with 2lb weights inside the handle bars

  • Can jumproping make me grow taller?

  • skipping is hardcore it's not primary girl sport. boxers skip a lot. it's nuts and works your calves so hard. i skip for like 15-20 mins the best way to do it is to listen to music and add up the time each song goes for.

  • hec even Bruce lee skips rope. thats why hes good at hoping in place whenever hes fighting!

  • Bruce Lee said 10 minutes of jump roping is equivalent to 30 min of running

  • Bruce Lee was the man! pure LEGEND

  • how much calories does jump rope burn / 15 min?

  • i was running, but had alot of pain in one of my knees and i dont want to aggravate an injury, is jumping rope comparable as far as cardio to running?

  • nope.. believe me i run and jump rope, and nothing compares to runnin, for cardio anyway..

  • People say jump roping for around 3-4 mins is like running a mile on the street so yea it is. Plus your getting a more full workout then running will get you cuz you are keeping your core tight using your forearms jumping with calves.... lets just say its better in my opinion, I do it cuz I hate running

  • how much inches u can increse ur vertical doing this?

  • Is there an exercise for short skip ropes...

I bought a short one and I can do only 2 to 3 jumps then it hit my head...

is there another way or I just need to buy a new one?

    help??

  • lol, i would just buy a new one if i were you, there isn't many things that u can do with a small one.

  • Could someone please tell me how big it should be? Should it be up to your shoulders when it is folded in half?

  • i've done 1,000 jumps 3 times within the past week, taking approx 20 minutes each time, but my abs have yet to be sore. Does this mean my posture is wrong? Do i need to physically tighten my abs everytime I jump or should it just automatically be tightened? Thanks

  • its a good excersise. will start from yr. 2010.

  • How long should a beginner jumprope?

  • Hey guys, can anyone give me an estimated time how long I should jump rope for a beginner?

  • does skipping make u taller???

    plz reply

  • the heavier you are the more calories you burn....thats why really fat people lose like a stone in a week...a 210lb person jumping rope for 15 minutes would burn 239lbs....skipping at a nice pace

  • how much is a stone?

  • you mean 239 calories?

  • how long should we do this for?

  • 10 minutes is a good small workout.

  • till you get tired

  • hmm, I'm 6'1" 275lbs and I've been doing an exercise/diet for a week now, I have to do 20 mins of cardio a few times a week, do you think rope jumping would be a good thing to do? I'm not good exerting myself in public so running is out.

  • yes

  • jumping rope is a really good cardio if you can do it for 20 minutes. my opinion is go jog or brisk walking for 30 minutes everyday, you will see the difference. people out there doesn't really care how you run...

  • cool

  • is the back of your legs supposed to ache? I feel it in my butt, legs, hams. I have to tighten my belly too

  • that means you're doing it right :)

  • I'm 5 11" with a 9ft rope...is this too long? The rope seems to hit the ground really far out before it 'slides' under my feet...could be my technique. I've just started.

  • A good way to determine rope length is to step on the middle of the rope with one foot and adjust the length such that the ends of each handle touches your arm pit.

  • make knots on both sides of the rope to make it shorter

  • awsome

  • awesome

can you tell me exactly what rope is good to buy?

  • Any speed rope with pvc cord will do.

  • What surface you should jump on and what shoes do you need???

  • anything thats not concrete. and ur shoes should have padding under the souls of the feet. some running shoes have that but most dont. i suggest getting basketball shoes.

  • I started doing this 2 days ago, my calf muscles, thighs and abs are super sore. So its definitely working. I can't wait to start seeing the results.

  • Abs? Honestly I really want to improve my abs, but how does it affect the abs? you don't move it at all. I don't have a jump rope, but if it works as you say it is, i'll totally get one!!

  • You utilize your abs in jump roping because your core stabilizes your entire body to get you into the air. Which is why jump roping helps to develop good balance, among others.

  • when ur jumping with a jump rope u need to keep balance and to do so u automatically tighten ur abdomen. trust me my abs have burned every time i jump rope.

  • youll notice it when you jump because whether you realize it or not your actully getting a full body workout, usually when i jump rope my arms give in before my legs

  • I've been jumping for 7 or 8 years and trust me, you feel like you just did a full ab workout. You have to maintain posture, which involves intense tightening of the abs.

Also, cardio increases your metabolism, which will burn stomach fat faster than any crunch/sit up routine will.

For advanced users, put small ankle/wrist weights one to burn a good 1 1/2 times the calories and build muscles.

  • I started jump roping and I have abs I didn't have before

  • how many weeks/months did it take for u to notice that? im planning to get one cuz i hate running... tore my ACL in highschool

  • it doesn't mean your abs gonna grow or form. It's only something like warm-up not really exercise

  • read more on jumping rope...it is one of the most valuable ways to spend your time. Steady state cardio, such as running, road biking, etc are basically useless, but better than nothing in terms of fat loss. It is a latter of intensity. Understand?

  • running is nothing near useless. running is a real man's sport, and jump rope is amazing as well, but a lot of people do it as an excuse not to run (the hard way). its benefits are great but don't go as far as saying jump rope is better than running, because REAL cross country running is better than anything.

  • am i right in sayin if your not capable of running for a long distance because of the shock tht running sends through your body that skipping would be a god way to build up your cardio to a point where it will make it a bit easier to start running distance? ive done alot of strength training but ive really neglected my cardio and whenever i jog i find myself so out of breath that after 1/2 a mile or so im on the verge of passing out. any advice would be a great help. thanks.

  • i would agree that running is better then jump rope. but i would argue that for results sprints are way more effect then "REAL cross country running"

  • Sorry, cross country is not better-it depends on what your goals are and what type of an athlete you are.Jump rope is unique cardiovascular exercise and ideal for power athletes--those involved in intermittent sports--basketball, soccer, hockey, football, boxing,TKD,etc. because it's a plyometric exercise that's also aerobic .Running long distance is great aerobic exercise but it will not improve reaction time, explosiveness, timing, or hand-foot coordination- jumping rope does all of those things.

  • Good for you, some people have weak knee's.

Jump rope for 30 min or jogging for 30 min.

Makes no difference aslong as both can keep your heartrate in the target area you want it to be.

Aslong as you move your burning cals.

  • it feels better though.. i get more work out of jump rope than i do running.. because i cant run that far but i can hop up and down all day lol

  • Buy some good sneakers. I have bought air max 360. Last day, I have jumed 1.5 hours non-stop. It gave me painful archs, even though I have jumped on wooden floor wit foam jumping mat.

But, believe me, I jump, I run.. Nothing beats rope jumping, neither running, neither tabata intervals. I am sure on that one.

    Just my 2 cents.

    Peace guys,

    Miro

  • Yeah, rope jumping is alot harder than running. It takes endurance and concentration.

  • if your 5ft 4 go for an 8 or 9ft rope. i use a 9ft rope.....i'm 6ft 1/2 inch and weigh 215lb and i can do it comfortably with a 9ft rope

  • is jumping with weights strapped on to you recommended?

  • Only if your body is ready for it, try to stay away from that though

  • You should not use ankle weights. It is very bad for your ankles and can hurt them tremendously. Try to stay away from them. For the legs I recommend natural exercises, stay away from machines...

  • damm it! he makes it look so easy..i've tried jump roping 4 a week now n im gettin da hang of it..its true, da only way ur gnna be gud as this guy is 2 jump rope every time u workout..

  • how long should the rope be if you're 5 foot 4?

  • I've heard about up to your chest, around midway up your peq. Most can be adjusted if you open up the handle.

  • The rope should be 9 foot.

  • 2 inches long

  • I started about a month ago for the first time in my life. I've gotten a lot better. I was really frustrating in the beginning. I felt it wasn't for me. But if people have been doing it for years that means it can be done. It just takes practice. My technique was ll wrong in the beginning. I was jumping too high, rope was too long, surface was wrong, arms were flailing, and rhythm was off. At first I was counting when the rope hit the floor. Bad! Counting when my feet struck the floor worked.

  • i`m glad that you are cool

  • Looks like he's moving his forearms a lot. Is that okay? And my wrists are usually around or slightly below my waist area. This is definitely the best cadio workout in my opinion. It doesn't bore the crap out of me like machines. My heart rate gets way up quicker than with running. You do have to build up leg strength. And be careful of what surface you jump on. You don't want shin splints. They really suck.

  • idk if you can really learn how to jump rope by watching this. The best way is just to keep trying it. It's almost like reading a book on how to ride a bike...

  • Trust me guys, I started a few years ago and I did not have any rhythm or concept of jumproping, then after a few weeks i was a pro! Now I get a lot of looks at the gym when doing this as part of my cardio. :) Its really cool because not many guys are that coordinated because it takes practice.... and yes, do not use your arms...it's ALL in the wrists and in the beginning you will get worn out easily but as you build endurance, you can go for a long time before you know it.

  • I will watch all his videos. I need one on one help with him.

  • it looks so easy then i try it and its like damn lol

  • thanks - im gonna try this. cheers

  • he makes it look so easy

  • see i never knew this, I always moved my arms while I was jumping rope and I would be wore out in no time.

  • Thanks dude ^_^

  • Nicely done.

  • How long should it take to develop form like the guy in the video?

  • A CHEAP 5 DOLLAR SPEED ROPE ARE THE BEST ONES....SERIOUSLY, IV BEEN BOXING FOR QUIT A WHILE, N NOTICED THAT MOST PROFESSIONALS AND MY COACH EVERTON MCEWAN SAID THE SAME. classic speed rope

  • hehe that's funny i bought a 1.24$ rope and its perfect.....

    sereusly 1.24$

besides it has a automatic counter that tells you how many clories you've buned and how many jumps you have........

    Jesus Albert.... DR

  • dominican republic ? , I think Ive bought the same rope as you , but believe me , is not the best one!. you should try buying a speed rope and you will notice the difference

    Javier ...DR

  • most people dont realize how great jumping rope can be for athletes and just regular people

  • is a leather rope just as affective or can u go faster and do more freestyle tricks with a vinyl rope?

  • I cant coordinate my jumping!

Does somebody have an advice to success?

  • Without the rope, try jumping to a beat...some type of music perhaps. Two feet and then one foot etc.... And then try and add the rope whenever you can get it in...build from there.

  • wow great video. i'm in desperate need of going to a gym because i stopped for a while to focus on school and gained some wieght:S and i have no room for a treadmill or money to go to a gym but this is realy great:D thank you so much man:D

  • same here!!! lol

  • When I make rope jump, after 1 minute or less I feel a very strong pain at the bones, about 10 cm under knee. I use running shoes, and try the jump to be soft, although I have problems coordinating legs, and generally I jump with both legs at once. I'm 1,85 m high, 27 years old, and my weight is 97 kg, and consider my self in good shape, with some overweight

  • shin splints? ice it 10 mins on then 10 mins off keep doing that when your not training.

  • go to a doctor and stop jumping rope before you seriously damage yourself. it could be anything to a hairline fracture to shin splints. either way you should consult your physician for nutritional or other forms of treatments including full med eval and x-ray. better safe

  • So jump roping burns more calories than running?

Will it tone your abs better than running to?

  • jumping rope and running are both good for your abs but jump roping works out your whole body especially your forearms if your just starting. it helps you keep balance

  • i'm about 5'9' how long should my jump rope be?

  • well it depends, im 5'11 and my jump rope isnt very big..but if u wanna mesaure it get the rope. stand on it, wiht ur 2 feet and hold each end and pull it up, it should b aboue ur waist lvl but a little higher bout 4-5 inches..and jus cut the rest off and use it

  • lay it on the floor.. stand in middle.. it should come rightr in ur armpits :D

  • could i do this without a rope lol

no 4real i dont have 1 and i want 2 do it now

would it still work without a rope and me just jumping up and down?

    some 1 help!!!!!!!!!!!!!.................

  • no, that doesn't really help. i use a jump rope before my wrestling matches to warm up, i've tried just jumping up and down, but it doesn't work.

  • how long do you think I should jump for?

  • i read somewhere that 10 minutes of jumping rope is = to thirty minutes of running

  • 15 min=200 calories

  • Are you serious?! 15min= 200 Calories!? It takes forever to get that in running!!!!

  • jump rope actually helps loose body fat and finally see the abs which the fat makes impossible to see, especially the lower section.

it takes forever to get running only first two or three days. after a week you should be able to jump for at least a minute. count 2 single jumps for 1 second. that's how you get your 20 minutes.

avoid jumping on your bare feet, it'll kill them )

  • This doesn't look like it takes alot of effort, but hell, it takes alot more effort than running I'm pretty sure.

  • depends....

I started with three sets of 50

then moved on to three sets of 100

recently am doing 3 sets of 200

(I do this after 40 mins of walking/jogging)

  • jumping rope is underrated even though it is one of the most effective workout. another great cardiovascular exercise would be running couple that with sprinting and you should be able to see results rather quickly.

  • hihi everyone.. can jumping rope lose fats in the lower chests??

  • Jump rope won't target only one area but instead have an overall affect by burning fat throughout the entire body. The same thing will happen with other forms of cardio such as running, cycling, elliptical, swimming, and many more.

  • I just started jump roping after a friend suggested it to me. Man, it's one good way to work out...I've been running for about a year solid now, but I've never had something try my endurance as much as jump roping does!

  • Is jumping rope a good way to lose fat around the abs. I have strong abs and need to lose some fat I heard rope jumping was good can anyone confirm. Any good diet tips.

  • yea jump ropes pretty decent for that but u might want to try crunches and sit ups as well, and even jogging can help. as for dieting, as long as your diet is balanced you should be ok

  • u cant lose fat in a specific part of ur body! but u can lower ur body fat doing strenght training and cardio+ a clean diet!

  • If you want to tone up the best way you can do that is go for runs because this allows you to tone your arms, stomache and legs. I've been running since i was in year 4 and i'm pretty toned for a 15 year old. I've just started to do some weights now to get some bulk on me because i've started to play some football and i need to get stronger and in the past 2weeks i have improved my body shape.
