The thing I understand about the BalthierXBasch pairing is that they're both two hot older dudes. I seem to find it more common than Vaan with either of them, at least.

This made me laugh harder... and harder. And then Basch started singing. And HARDER. On a serious note though, Bal/Basch is because Balthier and Basch both hurt a lot and have been let down by people a lot... they might inadvertently see their pain in one another, if not a way of fixing then a problem shared. That's the visceral thing to it, and the rest's because Basch is underexposed to sexy smooth talking attention whores and got all fascinated against his will. ;)

I have nothing against femmeslash, but its really not my forte, particularly for Final Fantasy. It could be because there's not a lot of that sort of subtext in the games, aside from FFX2, which is so deliberate and clumsy it can't be taken seriously.
