  • @HaloCE14 that makes sense they certainlly have enough of them mainlly SYs the newest I saw with a 1999 builders date I just never expcted to see the QJ make it over here the few vidoes I have seen of the SY 2-8-2 on the Susquehanna was sure nice but they made it almost look an American 2-8-2 I wish Iowa Interstate would do this again however it was definatlly interesting seeing Chineese steam in China and now Iowa I know about the Boone Scenic one

  • I only got to see this paticular class of locomotive parked idol in a railrad musem in Bejing in December we never got to go to the Jing Ping pass line to see these since they are gone from that line China rail wanted to charge the tour company way to much for us to do a day excursion on that line with one however I did see plenty of SY class 2-8-2s in revenue service on mine runs not on China rail but the mine company owned comeing down connecting with the Modern China rail GEVOS meeting 2-8-2s

  • I wonder what speed those 2 qjs will get up with all that freight?

  • I love the sound as they increase power!! That's music to my ears.

  • @buntik1687 i agree with you on that I witnessed this same sort of scenes for almost 2 weeks in China in December but with smaller SY class 2-8-2s on mine runs there were times I just closed my eyes and listened to the sounds of live steam still working in revenue service in 2009 like I was dreaming than I would realize it was real I was in small Chineese mineing towns with the 2-8-2s going through town like it was 1940s or 1950s America that is finally being phased out there too now in 2010!

  • This freight was run on the IAIS from Iowa City, Iowa to the Quad Cities. They ran a few excursions in the Quad Cities, but I don't think they went on BNSF trackage.

  • I'm sorry, but I have to ask you a question. Were these steam units set up as road units running alongside BNSF's mainline or was this a typical local freight run to the main yards to be setup for BNSF road units on BNSF's main line?

  • Those QJS are a real powerhouse.Wow they handle freight just as easily as the diesels if you ask me.But i am very Bias for the steamers ha ha...Does anyone know of a video of those QJS taking off with a super heavy load of freight that i got to see??Thanks

  • That was the largest load they have pulled. It was designed specifically to be the heaviest load pulled by Steam in the 21st Century. There are a couple vids of the same train farther East and out of the fog up on Youtube if you search for them.

  • Jesus Christ!!!! I cannot believe that there are some steam locomotives that still exist on long manifest trains!!! Dammit!! I wish I was there with my camera LOOL!!!!!!!

    GREAT POST!!!!

  • This move was done by the IAIS last fall specifically to set the tonnage hauled by steam record for the 21st Century. It's great when you own a regional railroad and 2 modern Steam Locomotives. You can have all kinds of fun!

  • Hi thats in Iowa i live in arkansas wish i was up there myself. Those QJS are some powerfull engines.I heard Iowa bought or traded for 2 QJ engines from china and they are really using them in revenue long haul freight.Man thats sweet to me a steam train lover...Just thought i would tell you what i know..

  • One hell of a consist, too:-)))

  • You're right other than all the people standing around with video cameras. :-)

  • That was absolutely amazing... it's like watching a scene from 50 years ago.

  • Awsome video, thanks for sharing..5*..Bob
