We are just trying to bring the pain and embarrassment that women with this disease go through on a daily basis to the forefront of public discussion, so bulimics everywhere can come out of the puke-stained closet and receive the help they need. @shire2005 Actually, eating disorders ARE diseases. They have been categorized as diseases for years now. And bulimia is far more than just purging to avoid gaining weight. That's the surface of the disorder, but underneath is a complicated web of emotions that are difficult to handle, and so a person may use the maladaptive coping mechanism of anorexia or bulimia to attempt to be in "control", when really their eating disorder is controlling them.
Clever idea, but really, it is tasteless to jest at the idea of an eating disorder.

It's not really a disease. And yes many bulimics do what they do simply as a means of eating what they want without gaining weight.
