They aren't the same thing in any way, Gravemind only has bits of the Timeless One's conscious because they are the reason he's even in existence. Your the foolish one.

We have nothing but the Timeless One's word for him being a Precursor, Bear has hinted that everything he's said is a lie to manipulate the Forerunners. Cryptum, Evolutions and Primordium all point to the TO and Gravemind being the same entity, failing that, Gravemind is a conduit which the TO is projecting his consciousness into. Read my message.

I'm pretty sure this is a link to the book Halo: the Fall of Reach. SPOILERS

In the book, chief and some other Spartans are sent to repel the covenant on a planet near Reach. There, the Covenant are searching a museum for a strange tablet. Cortana downloads data from the tablet. Later, when jumping away from the dying Reach, Cortana is supposed to jump to a random location, but instead she follows some coordinates she found on the tablet. This leads the Pillar of Autumn to Halo.
