i really do think that if you have a vertical anode rod held at the top and dangling down to a plate that is your cathode and have the spark gap just slightly wider than it being able to spark and then use a syringe of water to slide down the tube one droplet at a time. the idea is that when it gets to the bottom of the tube and forms a droplet it will close the gap enough and you will get cunductivity and a good snap. hope you try it!
now mate were coming of the grid here but will be using induction motor on the bug, it goes into a step down transformer 240-110 but im using as step up then another the same, then its through a bridge rect 12amp 2000v, then into a hydrogen cell as a water a resistor,by then its pulsing at 6-800v, into a 8uf 700v cap, the power is hard 2 see on vid but lot loader than it sounds ,the plug acts as a resistor until it fireswill do a scematic if you no a gud vid ed program to download,cheers
