okay so everyone hating on trevors screams STOP. im a young 14 year old screamer whos only been working on it for about a year, and i know how hard it is to get the same consistent tone everytime you go to record vox. remember trevor is ayounger than austin carlile or danny worsnop. he still hass a lot of developing to do with his voice. i give him and the rest of the band props for making an amazing album at their age. i watched this to see what trevors vocals sounded like in the studio. hahaha tdwp?? ya right.. i fucking love the devil wears prada but matt wentworth and the rest of our last night puts tdwp to shame in terms of song writing. tdwp is basic and catchy and oln has the most sophisticated, complex, and melodic guitar work out of any band in the 'hardcore' scene.

i will have to disagree. i saw them live not too long ago, and Trevor was off the wall insane. you cannot edit screams for a record like you can edit someone who does clean vocals. you might be able to layer everything, but that will just make it sound worse

it was four takes actually, why did you decide to show the bad ones then ?, even when trevor did that sort of joke low vocals on the close up of his face you can hear that its completely identical, he really isn't that good at screaming, what i meant by 'vocal guy' is that you have an amazing editor who can make him sound good when in actual fact, we can clearly hear that he is nothing like the finished record, its so close to dwp , i'm not sure why you have to deny these truths.
The only thing you can really do to edit a scream is to fix the timing of them. You can't change the tone or intensity of them. I'm not arguing or denying, just letting you know how it is. What you hear on the album is what he sounded like in the studio, thats all there is to it.
@OurLastNightBand ...guys respect and all...and yes it does sound pretty much the same in studio and album, but what you say is not totally true... screams can be layered, and especially equalized, and then all the effects including reverb delay etc...anyways keep it up!!

@OurLastNightBand Just further reinforcing what you guys said here, anybody who has ever recorded ANYTHING of a post-hardcore genre knows that when you record screams, it generally stays put. You can multi-layer, etc, and like these guys said, fix the timing... But what Chris is looking at is a video version, with no amplification, no compression - nothing. You can't judge someone who sounds "bad" in the studio... Go watch them live, thats the real story mate.
@chris170b dude im a screamer for my band, and a scream sounds nothing like it does with a mic, when you use a mic and hear it coming from the speakers it sounds so much better, i did some recording and to make your scream sound better you use a compressor but still, the kid has lots of talent, my scream is somewhat close or my technique anyways. btw the compressor doesnt do much much though but still can make it sound more powerful

Considering the fact that they've toured relentlessly for over 2 years straight, there should be no reason for him to lose his voice that quickly. Now that he's older, you can tell this childhood yelling (not screaming) is taking a toll on him.
I'm sure the screams on the cd will sound fine because the producer will layer the hell out of them. But I don't see Trevor doing this for much longer.
Since it is a reality that vocalists sound scratchy after a whole day of screaming wrong is what you should have said. He screams wrong I don't know what else to tell you. You need to either get a new screamer or make him learn. Or you can contiune sounding shitty live, I mean thats your call.

for the record... vocal fry and death chord are two types of screaming techniques taught in the zen of screaming by melissa cross, and frequently used by vocal coaches of this genre, "death cord", though it has the word death, does not imply the band is a death metal band
these techniques teach the screamer how to scream correctly... if they are actually doing it right, they won't tire out and overwork their voice, as clearly demonstrated by 54 seconds into this video

@chris170b Yo what are you hearing dude? The vocal tracks shown here are not bad at all. ...have you ever been in a studio? Or in a band? Also, video camera mics are not exactly optimized for vocal recording. I'm not sure you know what you're talking about...

@OurLastNightBand Just further reinforcing what you guys said here, anybody who has ever recorded ANYTHING of a post-hardcore genre knows that when you record screams, it generally stays put. You can multi-layer, etc, and like these guys said, fix the timing... But what Chris is looking at is a video version, with no amplification, no compression - nothing. You can't judge someone who sounds "bad" in the studio... Go watch them live, thats the real story mate.

@chris170b dude im a screamer for my band, and a scream sounds nothing like it does with a mic, when you use a mic and hear it coming from the speakers it sounds so much better, i did some recording and to make your scream sound better you use a compressor but still, the kid has lots of talent, my scream is somewhat close or my technique anyways. btw the compressor doesnt do much much though but still can make it sound more powerful

Well I just like the fact that he's so young and screaming for a full touring signed band. I never said I looked up to his screaming. I look up to Mike from TDWP and Craig Mabbitt's songs when he was in blessthefall. And Jordan Blake's songs when he was with a skylit drive

yeah its normal for his voice to be like that after screaming all day i use to be in a band when i was back in my home town and not doing the army thing yet. i was a singer/screamer it gets to ya sometimes i know how trevor feels... and thats fucking awesome when is the album going to be out? we are goin to be here til december of 2010 so me and the guys got some time haha

Considering the fact that they've toured relentlessly for over 2 years straight, there should be no reason for him to lose his voice that quickly. Now that he's older, you can tell this childhood yelling (not screaming) is taking a toll on him.
I'm sure the screams on the cd will sound fine because the producer will layer the hell out of them. But I don't see Trevor doing this for much longer.

for the record... vocal fry and death chord are two types of screaming techniques taught in the zen of screaming by melissa cross, and frequently used by vocal coaches of this genre, "death cord", though it has the word death, does not imply the band is a death metal band
these techniques teach the screamer how to scream correctly... if they are actually doing it right, they won't tire out and overwork their voice, as clearly demonstrated by 54 seconds into this video

I would just love to know, when trevor screams what he really does, cuz i think people have to try to be that bad, and for the kid that said hes a screamer and you know what your talking about, you should probably quit screaming, this kid clearly cant scream, he has nothing no fry, no death chord its just shit. Time to pick up a book on screaming for retards, hope the studio engineer is a good one, your gonna need it to save the screams on this album.
