Coming from BJJ and some stand up at a MMA gym, and before that sport Taekwondo as a kid. I decided that MMA stand up was not the TRUE MuayThai, MMA stand up is effective, but I like the history of martial arts more than the effectiveness... Muay Thai and other styles like it in south east Asia have a LONG history, it's something you cannot find in you MMA gym. That's why I'm gonna train at a Muay Thai gym that is opening in like 2 weeks!!! =D

The Wai Khru/Ram Muay is a ritual every fighter has to perform before fighting to honor his trainer. During the Wai Khru, the fighter has to wear the traditional headgear called Mongkol or Mongkon. During training only Ajarns (trainers) may wear the Mongkol. The fighters also wear armbands called Prajead which are lucky charms but today often serve to display a fighters rank in his gym too. Muay Thai is about being respectful, humble and honorable, not about beating people up!

@CeeEmmz In the ancient time Khru notice that when they take a fighter to fight with another fighter that came from another city.there are an adventage and disadventage on the location of fight.(the ring)so he try to extened time to make familar to the ring and environment.and important is warm up thier body thier mind to ready to fight.because of muaythai are very brutal violent. of course to know opponat come from school .they don't fight from the same school.by saying to honor their khru. oK

@CeeEmmz To elaborate more: The Wai Khru symbolizes respect for the gym, the teacher, and the Buddah. Alot of Thai fans believe they can determine the winner of the fight based upon who performs better in the Wai Khru. Alot of the moves you see come from the ancient style of Muay Thai called Muay Boran and were used for intimidating their enemies on the battlefield. The Pra Jiads worn around the arms are believed to protect the fighter from harm. Being trained by a thai fighter, you learn alot.

The wai kru is also great for, well, intimidating your opponent. If he rushed his, and you do a big long one, Im almost certain 90% of the time he'll be like "OH, shit this guy is serious" xD

I always enjoy watcing the Ram Muay, and I like this one too. Although, in my view they sort of looked to be rushing through the moves too much.

The wai kru is not just a dance. It's a way to stretch, to check out your opponent, to check out the boxing ring and to prepare for the fight.

Every gym has it's own version of the wai kru and it is a way to expose and honour your gym to the audience.

It is a little funny looking to see fighters dancing, but the fact is, these dudes are tough. From the fights I've seen, I'm pretty sure I'd get knocked out within 10 seconds.

if you dont train at all, 10secs is such a long time. they can put you down the canvass in a split sec. I train muay thai here in the Philippines with the first ever certified filipino muay thai instructor from thailand.

this is not thai boxing,thai boxing is the sport version of muay thay.ram muay is used for warming-up some muscles,but the principal use is make flee the bad spirits to protect the figther against dead or several wounds.
