A few years back a fire in a club in Rhode Island, USA started just like this and almost 100 people died. This is horrible but the club owner should have known that pyro-technics and wood don't mix.

Flames can spread in a flash; flash-fires are especially dangerous as people often times watch the fire for a bit before it flashes and then, it is sadly too late. Notice the people standing around in the interior room between the front vestibule area and main room; one young man is even moving toward the main room where the fire is. I bet many of them didn't make it out after the crush at the door began.
