Awesome conversion man! Ive been thinking of building one of these for my old man he loves those tanks so much. What kind of mileage can u manage with it??
@GlenDiesel I haven't measured this one yet, but my dad had a full size olds custom cruiser that he converted to 6,2. And he got 26mpg, even a little more at long trips.
Thank you very much for posting this. I was thinking of getting a gas Caprice and installing a 6.2 diesel. What did you have to do (in addition to the exhaust) to make the 6.2 fit?
@baguazhang77 I had to: make new holes for the motormounts, shorten the suburban radiator, make custom oil cooler lines, bend the rear injector line so it clears the steering column, move the plate under the radiator lower down, shorten the driveshaft, make a longer hole in the tranny crossmember, splice the wireing from car and engine togheter, use a suburban throttlecable. This is all I remember at the moment. You need to lift the engine in and mark the holes, then take it out and drill holes
@kiarra00 Thank you very much. I really would love to do this. I have a diesel Suburban with a badly rusting body. I think if I can find a good Caprice, I would rather spend the time doing this conversion than fixing the Suburban. It is a shame GM gave up on diesel passenger vehicles after the Oldsmobile diesel disaster. However, their reputation was probably too badly damaged after that to sell any. People still think my 6.2 is a derivative of that engine.
@baguazhang77 No problem man! I rememer one more thing: You can't use the tranny from your suburban (if it's 4x4) without changing the output shaft. I used a 350C tranny with a gas converter (wrong stallspeed for diesel), and I didn't like the way it drove, so that tranny is now out of the car and I've got a th700 from a chevy van that had a diesel, so I hope this will work good.
@shinyfuzzy the 350 diesel was very slow, and it was worn to so it had very little power, the 6,2 will make the car a lot stronger, and it will be faster than the 350D, but it will never be any racer
