I have a New iphone 3g on firmware 3.0.1. I want to jailbreak it and unlock it. So I downloaded the 3.0 ipsw and tried doing it. I did evrything as you said and when it says connecting to itunes on my iphone and when red snow says waiting to reboot your iphone, the red snow program quits unexpectedly and the phone starts back normally. I tried this couple of times and its doing the same thing. Is it because I have the latest ITunes. What am I doing wrong and what can I do to fix it?

try holding the home and power button until the phone restarts. Or put it in DFU mode and restore it. When redsn0w asks you to reboot the iPhone, you should manually restart it by holding the power button and sliding to power off.

Good question, you should have found that out before you bought it. Either way you need to activate the phone so try using redsn0w and follow this tutorial.

If you purchase an iPhone 3GS, make sure that it isn't running the new 3.1 firmware, because 3.1 can't be jailbroken right now. If the phone has either 3.0.1 or 3.0 and under firmware, you should buy it and you can unlock it to use with tmobile.

there is a jailbreak for 3.0.1, you just have to select 3.0 when running redsn0w, because 3.0.1 and 3.0 are so similar that the jailbreak works the same way.
even if something goes wrong you can always restore it back to your last back up. That's why its best to sync and back up your iphone/ipod before attempting to jailbreak.
I followed this procedure last night and am very happy with results thus far. I haven't tried yet but can I just hook back up to iTunes and sync/add music like usual?

I NEED HELP. ok I've tried this many times and I always end at the same problem. I download red snow and the firmware (I have an iPhone 3GS with 3.0.1 and a pc) and after I extract the files for red snow and run it and click browse and select the firmware it always says the firmware is unrecognized. The iphone is a 3GS with firmware 3.0 on it. I followed all the instructions up to plugging it back in while holding the home button to go into recovery mode.
When I do that it shows the usb cord connecting to the itunes CD like the video shows but nothing happens automatically after that as shown in the video. I shut down and restarted the iphone now.
What am I doing wrong and what should I do from here? Do I need itunes installed?

This is not for me though, I've never had to deal with Apple products before. I don't even know how to put songs on this damn thing. It doesn't work like an ipode, it doesn't like me just hook up and drag songs onto it using itunes or winamp.

Did you install ultrasnow from cydia? Jailbreaking is half the process. You need to unlock the iPhone using ultrasnow to be able to use your tmobile sim. Toward the end of my video I show how to install ultrasnow. Reboot after install. Also you need to turn off 3G before inserting sim.

Well my iPhone bricked last night on 3.0 so I went ahead and loaded up 3.0.1.
Followed all the directions, using the 3.0 file and what not. Whenever redsn0w says "waitinf for reboot" or whatever, the phone never reboots and I have to do it manually.
Then once it says "Downloading Jailbreak Data" and redsn0w says done, nothing happens. Phone just keeps displaying the same thing.
jailbreak is only the first half, now you need to install ultrasn0w in cydia. Towards the end of the video I show how to add the repo to sources in cydia and install utlrasn0w. Remember to reboot after ultrasn0w and disable 3G.
Ok I get all the way to the ramdisk and then it just freezes on that and says it done but I don't see no pineapple n Mai fone reboots to normal??? Why????

when it tells me to do different things then what u did like hold corner button for 3 secs then hold both home and corner for 10 the hold home for 30. so i did all that and it starts jailbreaking but it gets stuck at "waiting for reboot". Please HELP ME!
repo666.ultrasn0w isnt working for me :( what should i do it only says... the indicated repository could not be found. this could be because you are trying to add a legacy installer repository ( these are not supported). Also, this interface is only capable of working with exact repository URLs. if you host a repository and are having issues please contact the author of cydia with questions you have.... PLEASE HELP ME !:(
A lot of users has also sent me messages saying ultrasn0w's respository isn't working. I'm working right now to find another source. Please subscribe so you can be updated.
You can update to 3.0.1 using itunes. If you want to jailbreak then you need to upload 3.0 into redsn0w because they didn't update redsn0w 0.8 to jailbreak 3.0.1. Since 3.0.1 is a small patch that only updates the SMS, 3.0 will still work with redsn0w to jailbreak 3.0.1
Time varies. They didn't update the 3.0.1 jailbreak because they didn't have to. Using redsn0w 0.8 and firmware 3.0 works fine. Firmware 3.1 will be released in september. So look out for that
My sister just bough a 3GS this afternoon. Jailbroke it and everything, but now I can't connect to Cydia to download Ultrasn0w. Cydia keeps loading forever and never actually does. Could it be down or soemthing? Without Ultrasn0w my sister is really screwed. Help!!!

Its a feature that comes with the screen recording app im using to record my desktop. Its's called Screenium. Its only for recording use, not regular everyday use;

there is a jailbreak for 3.0.1, you just have to select 3.0 when running redsn0w, because 3.0.1 and 3.0 are so similar that the jailbreak works the same way.

Why won't redsn0w read my firmware file?!
it's 3.0.1 firmware file (iPhone1,2_3.0.1_7A400_Restore). Each time it says it cannot recognize it! Grrrrrrr

even if something goes wrong you can always restore it back to your last back up. That's why its best to sync and back up your iphone/ipod before attempting to jailbreak.

the firmware in tehe description is for iPhone 3GS 3.0, if you want to restore to 3.0.1 just use itunes.

I NEED HELP. ok I've tried this many times and I always end at the same problem. I download red snow and the firmware (I have an iPhone 3GS with 3.0.1 and a pc) and after I extract the files for red snow and run it and click browse and select the firmware it always says the firmware is unrecognized. I know the firmware download comes as a zip file and I've extracted all the stuff but it never works. Can you walk me through step by step on what to do after downloading both the files? Thanks

the firmware isn't suppose to come zipped. You need to download it with Firefox browser to get it in IPSW format ( cube with itunes logo)

i only installed redsnow. i cant install ultra snow due to no internet connection. and im not sure the type of iphone i have i think i have a regular 3 g not really sure how to tell and im runnng firmware 04.26.08 wit a tmobile sim 3.0.1 version

It's not working for me.
The iphone is a 3GS with firmware 3.0 on it. I followed all the instructions up to plugging it back in while holding the home button to go into recovery mode.
When I do that it shows the usb cord connecting to the itunes CD like the video shows but nothing happens automatically after that as shown in the video. I shut down and restarted the iphone now.
What am I doing wrong and what should I do from here? Do I need itunes installed?

This is not for me though, I've never had to deal with Apple products before. I don't even know how to put songs on this damn thing. It doesn't work like an ipode, it doesn't like me just hook up and drag songs onto it using itunes or winamp.
Someone in my family just bought the thing and assumed I would magically know everything about it. I guess there is a lot more I need to look up. Thanks for the useful video.

ok this is my deal. I believe i successfully jailbreaked my iphone. I have cydia and icy in my apps. when i try a access cydia i do not have a internet connection. i inserted my t mobile card by it self no turbo sim. i dont get a siginal. my signal bars look like a flatline. DEAD. what can i do to continue moving forward?

Did you install ultrasnow from cydia? Jailbreaking is half the process. You need to unlock the iPhone using ultrasnow to be able to use your tmobile sim. Toward the end of my video I show how to install ultrasnow. Reboot after install. Also you need to turn off 3G before inserting sim.

Well my iPhone bricked last night on 3.0 so I went ahead and loaded up 3.0.1.
Followed all the directions, using the 3.0 file and what not. Whenever redsn0w says "waitinf for reboot" or whatever, the phone never reboots and I have to do it manually.
Then once it says "Downloading Jailbreak Data" and redsn0w says done, nothing happens. Phone just keeps displaying the same thing.
Never had this issue before, andy suggestions?

jailbreak is only the first half, now you need to install ultrasn0w in cydia. Towards the end of the video I show how to add the repo to sources in cydia and install utlrasn0w. Remember to reboot after ultrasn0w and disable 3G.

when it tells me to do different things then what u did like hold corner button for 3 secs then hold both home and corner for 10 the hold home for 30. so i did all that and it starts jailbreaking but it gets stuck at "waiting for reboot". Please HELP ME!

repo666.ultrasn0w isnt working for me :( what should i do it only says... the indicated repository could not be found. this could be because you are trying to add a legacy installer repository ( these are not supported). Also, this interface is only capable of working with exact repository URLs. if you host a repository and are having issues please contact the author of cydia with questions you have.... PLEASE HELP ME !:(

You can update to 3.0.1 using itunes. If you want to jailbreak then you need to upload 3.0 into redsn0w because they didn't update redsn0w 0.8 to jailbreak 3.0.1. Since 3.0.1 is a small patch that only updates the SMS, 3.0 will still work with redsn0w to jailbreak 3.0.1

Time varies. They didn't update the 3.0.1 jailbreak because they didn't have to. Using redsn0w 0.8 and firmware 3.0 works fine. Firmware 3.1 will be released in september. So look out for that

My sister just bough a 3GS this afternoon. Jailbroke it and everything, but now I can't connect to Cydia to download Ultrasn0w. Cydia keeps loading forever and never actually does. Could it be down or soemthing? Without Ultrasn0w my sister is really screwed. Help!!!

I'm attempting a jailbreak on a 3.0.1 iphone 3g phone.
I DL'd the ipsw file but when I'm at the point of putting my phone into DFU mode redsnow crashes.
I also have tried to restore from the 3.0 ipsw file but itunes says that the file is not compatible. I also downloaded the ipsw file using firefox. Any ideas?
