I think Epic Metal is given by a successful blend of the epic atmosphere of music and a good tone of voice that knows how to interpret it well. I think that it not fits with the style of the voice as in Death or Black Metal. (Full disclosure: I'm an incurable classic HM fans with no taste for boring growling death / black vocals. Sorry if anyone is offended by this;-) )).

Tastes vary, you don't have to like Hammerfall. But calling them fake just proves how ignorant and misinformed you are. Hammerfall endured years of "80s is dead"-people telling them they had no future. The band proved them wrong, and made a whole new generation wake up and smell the 80s coffee. Besides, fake metallers don't even know of Heavy Load, Picture, Stormwitch, Warlord, Chastain et al, not to mention cover their songs.

I'll give you a clue a lot of kids nowadays pretend not to know, but windows media player has a feature to playback audio slower, but pitch-correct.

But if you know your diatonic triads and some chord theory basics a lot of this stuff should just come out automatically. Learn some theory and you'll be writing music more easily than you could imitate somebody else's.

And yeah Heavy Load > Hammerfall (sorry, guys)
