I can't speak on the others you named, but, back in '87 when his first film came out, it struck a chord with a cousin of mine and me as 17 year olds then mainly because we really hadn't seen an action star kick ass like THAT since Bruce Lee or Jim Kelly. No, I'm not placing Seagal in the same league with those 2, but, there was just "something different" about his first few films when they came out. The action just seemed more brutal and realistic, and therefore, funny as hell.

This was possibly Segal's last decent movie before they went to complete b-grade shit. Although I know this is highly debatable here, that's merely my personal opinion of him.

He was already too heavy in this film, which I feel he always tried to cover it up with those damned long coats he always wears even today. "Out For Justice" was his last good film before he started getting fat. Really a shame too because I loved his work in the 80's and most of the 90's.
