This is the best video ever!! An amazing band like Pearl Jam, along with one of today's few rock Gods, Dave Grohl.. playing a classic Neil Young song who is, by the way, called the Grunge Godfather :)
@AmazedDexter I was there.. he broke more than one drumstick.. there was something like a whole quiver of sticks on the side which he reached into without missing a beat each time he broke one
Not only is this a great song, but this version is also one of the best covers and one of the best live performances I've ever heard. Unfortunately not the best video quality, but it's the song that matters anyway.
There are plenty of bootlegs and copies of this concert floating around....i won an original recording, 1 of only 1000 copies ever made and released by Triple J. This was my first concert and the CD is one of my most treasured possessions. Ive been offered $2000 bucks for the CD, because it is the original but i'd never sell it
I was at this concert in front of stage, it was awesome. At 5:05 when Eddie throws the mic out into the crowd, it landed right in my hands. I took it home with me and I still have it today. A very memorable night. About 6 months later I met some dudes at a party who scored the lead that was attached to the mic. There was 6 of them there at the concert and they cut the lead into 6 pieces, 1 for each of them lol.
@Starblazer36 What made this an especially amazing night is that I turned up at the arena without a ticket, hoping to purchase one there. I was waiting outside when I saw these 2 fellas walking past and on the spur of the moment I asked them if they had a ticket to sell. As it turns out they did, it was for the 11th row on the floor right in front of stage. I gave the bloke $100 on the spot and never looked back. Crazy mosh pit, awesome concert, caught the mic... freaking best night ever! :D
dave would have been awesome in pj but cameron was a better choice bcz if dave was chose he would probably never have formed the foovians and if the foovians were never formed the world would have imploded
OMG!My dream!Pearl Jam and Dave Grohl together!!! I took my daughter to Pearl Jam here in NZ in November 2009 for her 16th birthday then in Jan 10 we saw Dave (who is our god) With Them crooked vultures!!WOW!This is on CD somewhere??
@Lele039 Yes this whole concert was broadcast and recorded by Triple J radio. The radio station released only 1000 copies of the CD in a competition...im one of the fortunate people who won a copy. Its worth mega bucks!
I can still remember listening to this on JJJ when I was an apprentice Chef at 16yrs old. Feels like a life time ago, but still sound really familiar. Thanks for the post. :)
never was a big fan of grohl, but he does do good here...he probably would have been a better fit than their current drummer....also who is the extra guitarist playing with them here?
did the fucking guitarists move at all during the entire performance?? it's like they wanted front row tickets to the dave grohl show and they weren't gonna risk giving up their positions to move anywhere else on stage
whoever filmed this must of been standing really close to me! I almost failed my lab course at uni because I spent the whole day in the queue for tickets to this! best concert I have ever been to!
Get the fuck out! I was there front row centre of the biggest baddest mosh I ever seen getting smashed around and losing my shit cos Dave Grohl was on drums. It was fuckin awesome!!!!!!!!!
I bought this concert on a 2 disc bootleg from a $2 store on Swanston St in 1996 for $10 and is one of the best concerts I have of PJ. Set list was awesome and quality is great which helps...Great to see this great cover in video format...cheers
FUCK, History could have been made if Dave joined forces with Pearl Jam. Of course, that would mean Foo Fighters might not exist... but Dave shredded that kit. I've never enjoyed RITFW as much as this performance.
dude< it wouldve been hella sick for grohl to join pearl jam...but im glad things worked out how they did all around cause matt cameron deserves to be with pearl jam after soundgarden broke up...nothing against jack irons because he is a good drummer no questions asked
Great video, awesome to finally SEE it! Best version of RITFW ever. Dave was on holiday in Australia before Foo Fighters first ever tour in the states. I THINK it is Jack Irons on guitar.
Check out the video of Sonic Reducer with Dave on drums also from Melbourne '95.
Bloody hell, how awesome is that to finally see footage of this. Must remember to retrieve audio cassette tape of the JJJ "simulcast" from shoebox in bottom of wardrobe in my 5 year old son's bedroom and put in much, much safer place.
Their best gig ever(and Ive heard most) and the rarest bootleg. Double cd is called 'Aussie Dynamos' a few thousand were sold into the public before sony? stopped it.
I want the real beta cam footage, it was shot professionally by someone?? who are you???
HELL YEAH!! Glad to see I'm not the only one who's been searching for a video clip of this for years!! And pretty awesome quality considering it's filmed in 1995. Somehow (magically) the dude filming manages to have the camera focussed on Dave for all the rocking drum fills. Awesome. Like 'Bluestonered' said below, I've only ever been able to visualise in my head what this song (and gig) looked like...
i'm with you and bluestonered. i was sat by the radio the night this was broadcast and taped the whole thing. i've listened to it a thousand times and always tried to visualise what the gig was like. this is great footage - what would be even better is if whole show was released officially with the pro shot footage that almost certainly exists, along with the vitalogy tour film that's done the rounds.
PURE GOLD!!! Ive been searching for audio of this gig for 10 years now, after my cassette got chewed up.....ahh not gunna miss those days! I know this gig like the original Star Wars films.. Ive only ever been able to visulise in my head what it looked like and there you have it. I love technology! For the record; Dave Grohl was just filling in for the last song (RITFW). This was Jack Irons 1st tour with Pearl Jam. He obviously switched to guitar. This gig was broadcast on Triple J (Australia).
OMG, I found it! I have had this on CD for 7 years on a disc that my old college roomate burned for me. He lost his old file and we never knew what the performance was. It's the best piece of live music I own. I can't believe Grohl is the drummer, I swore is was going to be from the Abruzzesse era. Great stuff. Who is the 3rd guitarist on it?
Wow! Been jammin' to the bootleg audio cd of this show for almost 15 years now!!! Incredible to see the vid with Dave. Just how I imagined it. ROCKIN!!! Is there a whole concert bootleg video out there of the entire show? One of their best ever. Nice remix match of soundboard audio with video. Made my day.
How times change. everyone is moshing in the front of this vid. i seen them in 2006 and there was none of that lol. they've grown up and we have too i guess.
I don't think we would have gotten no code or yield if grohl had been there. I personally think the style might have continued in a progression from vitalogy and vs.
Holy shit! i've always had this version on mp3, for a few years now! it's my favourite version of rocking in the free world! i never knew it was dave grohl on drums x) Awesome :)

Dave breaks his stick @ 3:14! LEGEND!
PJammerTas 11 months ago
@PJammerTas
No, he does NOT! :)
I see something flying, but...
But if it was a stick, then this loss should affect sound of drumming.
And as you can HEAR, crash playing line is constant, such as snare drum.
So, maybe Eddit threw stick into Grohl, but missed, because he saw Grohls extra-mega-hard-cymbal-hitting style :)))

I still have that cassette somewhere. Love that there is a vid here, thanks gndcd402 for posting this. Love it.
