When I drew the image in the video, I was using a Wacom Graphire 3 (I think it was a 3, anyway. Could've been a 4). I use a Wacom Intous 4 now, though.
which pen did you use for the thick outlines? I dont know which to use. I have artrage and i'm currently using the inkthingy which you dont seem to have
@TeenGoh4n - I used ArtRage 2.6 for this video, and used the Felt Pen tool for the dark outlines. If you're going to try it, be sure the Art Pen setting is turned on, or the lines will be translucent. If you're using AR Studio, or Studio Pro, you'll also have access to the Ink Pen, which I'd recommend using instead, if you're looking for a cleaner and smoother line. Watch my video Ink Pen Tool - ArtRage Studio Pro (3) - Taper Feature to see what that looks like.
ArtRage Studio Pro actually allows for filter use. You just need to tell ARSP where the plugin folder is, through it's preferences panel, or put the plugins in the AR filter folder, and it will then be able to use them. I posted a video the other day, using Richard Rosenman's Grid Generator filter while in ArtRage.
Does it really anger you that much? Anyway, I've put three image links in the video description of people with their torso in similar positions, with their arms hidden from view.
@MrChic02 - First I used the Pencil tool to sketch out the image, then (at 0:30) I added a new layer and switched to the Felt Pen tool in order to ink over the pencil lines. The settings I normally use for the Felt Pen now are: Pressure 50%, Softness 75%, Wetness 50%, Art Pen ON. This image was done in ArtRage 2.5 though. Were I to do this now, I'd be using ArtRage Studio Pro and would probably use the Ink Pen tool instead of the Felt Pen. If I get time, I'll see if I can make a slower video.
You can purchase ArtRage from the ArtRage website. I've added a working link in my video description, because I can't seem to type it here without YouTube throwing a fit. The version you're seeing here is ArtRage 2.5. I now use ArtRage Studio Pro, which was well worth the upgrade.
This is nice, I found a great Youtube channel for Artrage speed painting.... Jorge Lopez Lorenzana. I am surprised more people are not using this program. I find it very natural and organic.
ArtRage 3 is rumored to be releasing very soon (I heard it might be within a month or two). The ArtRage team say that people who own AR2.5 will only need to pay the difference between the two products if they choose to update to it. No word on the cost yet, though they said they're working on keeping it as affordable as it has been in the past. I'm looking forward to seeing the new features. The AR guys said there will definite be a Water Color tool.
Well, you can download the "Starter Edition" which is free, but some of the tools are locked and you won't have access to layers. The full version only costs $25 though, which is practically nothing compared to some of the other drawing programs out there.
Hello again. It'll probably take some time to get used to it (could be a couple weeks, could be a couple months). It all depends on how often you use it. Some people put a sheet of paper over the pad to give it a more nature feeling, which they say helps them control the pen more. It's really just a matter of practicing with it. Best thing to do would probably be to just practice drawing simple gestures and shapes, until the movements begin feeling more natural.
Yeah, that's what I tend to do. After filling in the one color (like his shirt and pants) I'll then make a stencil out of that layer. I then create a new layer and outline one edge of the stencil with a dark hue of the same color to shade that side. The stencil keeps any color from going out side the intended area at that point.
Well, aside from just taking my time and trying to stay within the lines (as one normally would do with a paper and pencil drawing), creating a stencil of the "ink" layer can help to keep the marks within the lines, by working as mask. Just change the stencil to "Ruler Mode" after it's created and the coloring should stay on one side for the most part. It won't be a perfect solution, but it will help.
Check out my other videos too. There's a link to one in this video (it pops up at around 1:00 in, just click on it), which I made to show someone else how I color in ArtRage.
They added a "stencil" feature to ArtRage (not sure if it's in your 2.2 version). The stencils can be made by loading any image, or on the fly from a layer you make in the program. In the case of my video, I created one to use as a mask when adding in my shadows.
They're pretty easy to do and are explained in the manual (found in the Help menu in ArtRage). Anyway, you just have to click on the black arrow of the layer you are working on to open the layer menu and select "Make a stencil from this layer". Anything that is on that layer will become surrounded by the box to become a stencil. For more info, please watch the Video response I posted.
I'm using version 2.5. I think it just takes some getting used to it (and having a drawing tablet helps if you don't have one), especially if you're more used to programs like Photoshop. I really like using it for doing sketches.
i got ma artrage 2.2 free with ma tablet, and they have seriuosly improived it since then, i mean on my verions u cant change pencil width or eraser width or anything, and theres a limit to the layars and theyve tryed to make it too realistic and now ruined it! this version looks gd, i wish i had this version. tho opencanvas is alos gd! watch one of my tutorials and u'll see wat i mean with opencanvas ;)
nyc pic, i neva tot artrage would produce this gud. that must mean u r very gud. Gee, u make me feel like a student while u draw. 10ks 4 d video tho, i learnt a lot.
Thanks. If you don't have a drawing tablet for your computer, I'd recommend getting one. They're a lot of fun. I've really enjoyed using ArtRage since I bought it. If you haven't already, you should think about joining the ArtRage forums as well. A lot of good people there who give great advice.
It depends on the type and size. My tablet is 4 x 5 inches and cost me about $65 at BestBuy. You'd be better off searching online if you're looking for a good variety of choices though. Mine has pressure sensitivity, an eraser nub and two buttons on the stylus. It also came with a normal mouse that works on the tablet. The more expensive tablets can have a number of different features, like tilt and swirl effects.
When I drew the image in the video, I was using a Wacom Graphire 3 (I think it was a 3, anyway. Could've been a 4). I use a Wacom Intous 4 now, though.
