So glad they paved the backstretch and added safer barriers as well. It keeps those cars from catapulting in the air one a piece of the car digs in the grass like we saw here with DW...
I saw that car at the darlington museum today on my way to myrtle beach. unbelieveable that most of the chassis still intact. Good thing Darrel had minor injuries.
I was against the fence there in turn 3, and DWs car was flipping and flying right towards me, or so it seemed. Scared me so bad I ran and left my beer!
DW is one of the worse tv people on NASCAR why did he say Jeff Gordon was bump drafting in the corner's when he got into Kane? it DW a damn retard or what? did he not see one of the biggest according affects ever in a race?
I was at this race way back then, but this track is so big it was hard to see the crash from our seats at the entrance to pit road. This car is also on display with a video loop of it playing at the track at Darlington.
@allsmurfedup yeah, hes kind of an inspiration to me. whenever things get tough with racing (with money and broken parts) i look to him. even though he isnt around anymore. R.I.P.

RUN ALL THE CARS INTO THE WALL....All auto racing does is waste fuel & pollute the air. Grip all you want about my comment - Lots of you will. PEAK OIL IS CLOSING IN. Don't know what PEAK OIL means? Google it.
The fans aren't allowed past a certain point you idiot. And dollarcheeseburger, they weren't saying that he should have waved so you in turn are the idiot.
How would I be an idiot when I know for a fact the last thing on a drivers mind that has wrecked is waving to the fans? This is what goes through a drivers head after a wreck. Shock, fear, and then anger.
Interesting tidbit I was told by someone who knows Joe Ruttman - everyone was so concerned about DW, and rightfully so, but if you look at it Ruttman took a very hard lick when his car first came down after they hit the access road; he had hurt his leg but no one came to his assistance for a long time because everyone was over by DW's car. Fortunate that both escaped serious injury that day.
i like serious...ive be seeing crashes today when the announcers be laghing while the crash is happening. bob jenkins and the gang would never do that, they would be concerned about the conditon of the driver. not laughing there asses off because of some "irony" or something.
I'm with you but I think that MAYBE they just goof around is because the cars nowadays are a LOT safer so they don't have much to worry about. Maybe they think a driver can survive ANY crash after seeing Michael McDowell's flip at Texas.
one of my all time favorite drivers. great skills driving. the 'muhammad ali' trash talker of stock car racing. once made the comment he could say wahtever he wanted about dale earnhart's team because,"they wouldn't be able to read it, anyway". lol!
I was at this race also. Here are some DW numbers for those who doubt his driving excellence. Modern Era Records Consecutive Top-10 points seasons: 15, 1975-1989 Consecutive Top-10 finishes: 22, 1983-84 Consecutive wins from the pole: 4, 1981 Consecutive pole-winning seasons: 13, 1974-1986 Most road course poles: 9
84 wins and 3 championships is hardly overrated. I don't particularly like Jeff Gordon but I give him credit for being one of the great drivers because I'm mature enough to give credit where it's due. I'm sure DW doesn't really care what you think anyway.
wow, Earnhardt could of taken out in this incident...damn...I remember when they used that accident scene and put it into a Western Auto commercial. Yeah i noticed that Sterling Marlin #22 Maxwell House Ford bumped Alan's car and caused him to bump into DW's car...ouch...just another "restrictor plate accident"
I was at this race in the infield facing the backstretch. Watched the wreck happen right there in person. After the race I went out in the infield and got one his coil springs and I got put in the newspaper for it too. A kid next to us got his water bottle, goggles, a coil spring, and bunch of sheet metal.
He won 12 races in back to back seasons... that's obnoxiously good, I don't care what you think. Yeah um 84 wins, 3 championships, the guy is a legend and always will be period.
their called "eras" dont know if you realised but every so often there comes a period of time where certain drivers dominate....i guess its been screwed up since the beginning in your regards
