The New Zealand public are overwhelmingly against mining. The land that this mining is taking place lawfully belongs to the indigenous (tangata whenua aka Maori). The Treaty of Waitangi supposedly giving this right has been judged a nullity and is not settled.

Foreign investors are likely to lose their shirt once this comes out.
