Neat! Did you program it to do that, or did the computer do it by itself?

All of the visual displays are being driven by a Java application I wrote which is running on a laptop. The laptop sends all of the display information via USB to an Arduino microcontroller which is running another program that I wrote. The Arduino is responsible for lighting up the matrix of LEDs.
