  • they have the hugest tongues... lol <3

  • If the red wolf wasn't its own separate species, why is it always classified as one? And if it's 80% coyote, then why do they have more wolf-like behavioral traits? And why would we try to breed red wolf pairs, rather than pairing more common coyotes with gray wolves? I don't doubt that Canis rufus has similar ancestry than Canis lupus and Canis latrans, but I do believe that they have evolved and developed into their own Canis subspecies.

  • New genomic evidence from UCLA (as opposed to the earlier mitochondrial DNA studies) show that the red wolf is actually a coyote. Around 80 percent of its genes come from coyotes, while the rest come from Canis lupus, the Holarctic. This genomic study found that there is no unique Eastern wolf species. In North America, there is the Canis lupus Holarctic wolf and the coyote, and the coyote and wolf have hybridized quite a bit.

  • @Retrieverman1 coyote-wolf breeds are completely diffferent

  • Thumbs up if you love red wolves!

  • i got to see one

  • These are beautiful animals!

  • Red Wolves are hybrids of a coyote and a wolve

  • @efrenpineda The red wolf is classified canis rufus & is its own species of canid, as different from a gray wolf & coyote as the gray wolf & coyote are different from each other (but more closely related to the gray wolf). red wolves (canis rufus), gray wolves (canis lupus), & coyotes (canis latrans) can all interbreed with each other, but are different species of canid. The red wolf is actually an older species than the North American gray wolf & the coyote (according to some studies).

  • @Keryha That theory was actually falsified in a large genomic study at UCLA. The paper was released May 12. There is only one species of wolf in North America. No unique Eastern wolf species exists. There are just Canis lupus wolves and coyotes in North America-- and they have hybridized. This study from UCLA, which is doing the Wolf and Jackal Genome Project, found that the red wolf is actually almost entirely coyote.

  • @Retrieverman1 Do coyotes have same ancestry with dire wolves?

  • @efrenpineda the eastern coyote is a hybrid between a coyote and a wolf (usually red wolf). that is why repopulation efforts have not been successful. in order to restore the red wolf in it's native range the coyotes must first be killed out in those areas (which could never happen, it was attempted before)

  • think of them like hogs shoot on sight

  • if they kill it im going to kill THEM

  • so cute!

  • OMG ITS A RED WOLF -.-

  • OMG its the rare red wolf

  • these wonderful animals deserve to have more land :)

  • They are beautiful but I would not want to run into them while hiking in the Superstitions in AZ.

  • these wolves are pretty

  • my native name is red wolf

  • @mariotttttttt kool

  • We most save them they are critically Endangered and people suggest they are extinct in the wild :(

  • @themixtures they are not extinct in the wild

  • These are Awesome!! saw a pack with pups at Virginian Living Museum in Hampton

We also went on tour at night to hear them howl ( a pack) They also some are in wild at Alligator River Wildlife Refuge. They are very hard to see though. Mom and I were out looking for bears and one darted in road right ahead of us. It was AWESOME!!!

  • lol, cai-oat.

(not making fun, sorry if it sounds like that)

  • its how we missourians say it lol

  • You have not seen red wolves in Louisiana. Those are coyotes, they look very similar, there is no wild population in LA.

  • I would love to see these beautiful canines population be restored.

  • @Ozark187 Back in my town we have a wolf reservation and we have red wolves in this reservation and 6 months ago 2 red wolf cubs were born.

  • This is out to you Red Wolf. Red, I love you! You are the most wonderful crusty critter out there! Love ya!

  • Why, thank you, thank you very much. :-)

  • No its not false... there are less than 100 living in the wild.

  • I would have to say the information given is totally false. I live in North West Louisiana and I'm a hunter. I've heard and seen many wolves in my area. On top of that, I've seen pictures of wild wolves all over the East Texas area.

  • The video is about red wolves not wolves in general. I dont know how they can say there only 100 wolves in the wild but If they say they are indeed endangered they probably are.

  • Great Spirit may the red wolf remain here with us.

  • I'm glad to see the red wolf being peserved, just another mark against mankind for making them so scarce. The only time a wolf of any kind or coyote should be shot is if they won't leave your livestock and house alone cause they're after a free or easy meal. There's ways to deal with that too without killing them.
