question. i just got 3 seeds from avocados that my mom bought a while ago. they were left in the refrigerator for a while so they were spoiled by the time i took the seeds out. will this effect whether or not they grow? i started 1 out in a cup of water w/ the toothpick thing a couple days ago and there's some kind of gunk that is forming on the seed and toothpick and the water became a brown/reddish color overnight. is this normal? the other one i just put in soil just to see how it turns out.
I tried this with a store bought organic avocado as well as an avocado from a friends tree. After 3 months, nothing happened at all. What did I do wrong? I water it so the bottom half is submerged (I'm using bottled water, should I use tap?), and I used wooden toothpicks. Please advise.
I must say nice video.I have four that i'm trying to grow.Seem like mines start to grow and then they stop, and don't do nothing. The leave sprout never grow no more than about a inch, and stop.
@starryian007 I have a Fuerte avocado in my backyard. If you let the fruit get really ripe, the roots will start to grow inside the avocado. I live in Southern California and my fruit gets as big as the one in the video.
You will want to graft your seedling later to ensure you have good fruit quality.
It's easier to but the tree since it takes 15 years for the tree to grow avocados

Is everything big in Florida? Every time I see a video on fruit it is enormous!
By the way I noticed that the avocado seed had a root starting to grow. Does this happen inside the fruit or have you planted it previously?
Thanks for posting
