I have to say that I agree, as a (lipstick) I have found that I did not want to change who I was or what I wear just because the person next to me is a girl instead of a boy. Every girl that I have dated has enjoyed the fact that I kept my style, and did not try to conform to some idea of what a lesbian was supposed to look like. You don't have to fall into either butch or femme. Just be who you are. If you'd feel more comfortable with a label, maybe you should consider "androgenous". I heard that in classical greece androgenous people were considered the most attractive!

Also, perhaps this will help with the shyness: sometimes people fall into the habit of looking for the differences between themselves and others, but it's so much nicer to look for common ground!
