you're the returning officer in this referendum clearly campaigning for a yes vote. Reducing exec is about cuts more than anything else. How can reducing the number of exec increase representation? Shambles
I am fully behind reducing the man power so long as, as you say, all the things that need to be done get done. Whatever your plans are to make this happen, I am very interested in finding out more.
Hi Richard! Thanks for your comment. These questions will be answered fully in a second video blog on Monday. Man power is not actually the problem, the problem lies in the duties that the Exec undertake, so we relieve them of these operational duties (these duties still need to be done) and give them increased support and they will have an effective platform to represent students. We currently have a very large number of full time sabbaticals - 9, this does not make us more representational!
So, if I understand what you are proposing; you plan to reduce the amount of time you are are spending on operational issues by decreasing your manpower; isn't that rather counter-intuitive? I was President of the NUS at my sixth form college and I had a 12 person team and only 3200 students to represent and we still barely had enough time to get down the the business of being good representatives.
