Funny story about Pavarotti. He came to our office years ago to have a meeting with one of our lawyers who was up on another floor. He sang one of his highest notes and the complete office stopped working and were in awe. What a brilliant and fantastic voice. Loved this video. Thanks for sharing it.
@nesossin La Traviata, Rigoletto, Carmen, Il Barbiere di Sevilla, The Magic Flute, La Boheme, Tosca would all be fine. Search here for scenes from these operas, see what you like. It's a pity you missed Carmen from the Met on PBS as it was a great first-time production of a great first-time opera, but if you want, you may be able to see Met Carmen HD broadcast on July 28th at a participating movie theater near you. This is not the same as live opera, but OK as first time experience.
Thanks for uploading this video - it's grat. This is about the time I heard Pavarotti as Rigoletto in Chicago Civic opera (with Blegen as Gilda, not sure who was Rigoletto). He was so great. Similar production. These were the days...
Always one of the most beautiful voices ever!!!!.I like very much his breathing; most of his pronunciation is done in the teeth with aa expansion to the mask, with an open throat...GREATTT!!!!!, can look and listen to it a thousand times and always will find something to learn!!!!!!
Feminists are hung up about everything-& this is coming from a girl. The extremist ones not only seem to hate men, they also hate women and every single established characteristic that makes us female. As much as they hate men, they'd rather have THEIR characteristics, attitudes, way of thinking, etc. not the female ones. Do they intentionally not want to recognize the truth, I mean come on people it's pretty clear the lyrics are true!
Here's what I find ironic about this scene from Rigoletto, he's singing about women being fickle. And yet he's trying to seduce Sparafucile's sister Maddalena, while still having feelings for Gilda.
@Pennywisea Why do you think he has any feelings for Gilda? Just because he was upset that she was gone? So he wanted her until he got her. He got her - now on to another conquest. In the first aria he sings he doesn't care if it is this or that woman. I think the irony was intended: he feels the women are fickle because he wants to think they are like him; this way he doesn't need to worry about their feelings when he dumps them.
no no I agree, the aria is amazing in that regard. I'm just saying, [idiot] feminist groups have banned this song, which I think is just incredibly stupid...
Without a doubt, Pavarotti sings the best donna e mobile, its warm one and lyricism, perfect for duke's paper that reaches the legend, a great duca di Mantova, with the one that in my opinion, offer the aria's better interpretation, so different to the other ones......... and it is the best!

@Pennywisea The true irony is this is an art form imitating life. They say art imitates art and vice versa. I say both are true.
