As a former Esprit owner, Iam dissappointed in the styling. The lotus Esprit should have looked like the 458 Italia in design principle and classic shape.
Theyt have not stayed pure and although I think the NEW ELISE is the only model I like now, I will be saving pennies towards a 458. The 458 is just the perfect shape supercar I have been waiting for as I didnt like the clinical former Ferrari models. PERFECT nose, perfect balance.
My Esprit is an 88 Commemorative Edition [ok modified and upgraded] verdict out. I want to dig this drive but something tells me it will be down the road.Problem 1 is the power plant. It's out sourced all true Esprits are inline 4 and yes I had my 88 post production charge cooled.Anyhow that is my funk with the "new" Esprit-step child power plant,None will rival Stevens Esprit look-power plant from who? Mine a Lotus 910 nuff said..
It ought have been renamed. This does not resemble the Esprit at all. I'm very sorry to see that the traditional Esprit styling is not being preserved.
@vincentweb LOL - yeah, Protons suck big-time ...the Lotus purchase was clearly their way of getting their hands on some Lotus engineering expertise. That said, they still own Lotus which makes the abusive rant of the child below even more pathetic
@ReallyKindaGroovy so it's an Asian car after all... alright then i think am gonna ditch Lotus as one of my favorite car brands, their car designs all look like ripoffs from other more popular brands anyway... (still not apologizing)
@fighter742 .....RWD cars steer true and steer better...an AWD system makes the designing of the chase less challenging.....RWD cars are tougher to make..and better to drive...even the lambo's have rear biased torque split of 60:40.....so do the ferrari FF has...all true sports car had RWD....but surely its not good for those who can't drive...and might as well suck for them..
While we are at the issue of COPYING need I remind you ignorant ass that Lotus pretty much invented everything you see in Formula 1 today. Monocoque chassis in 1962, engine as a stressed member of the chassis in 1967, Wedge shape aerodynamics and sidemounded radiators in 1970, Ground effect in 1977, active suspension in 1987.
What did you Italians EVER pioneer and invent in motorracing?? Give me ONE example. Stupid kid, read some books and stop living in videogames.
Manufacture's need to stop listening to these stupid car magazine writers; this is why Porsche is afraid to change the 911 body because the stupid writers are afraid of change.
Lotus lovers, I find it strange that they abandoned the 2003 style completely, it was such a signature design, and went adopting other makers elements. This is not a signature move, in my opinion. Amen on the engine / gearbox. Would have loved that update 10 years ago. Surprised.
@hefnerweizen Actually we are both right. It did actually have the option of a 2.0L slant 4 but you never heard of those because the V8 model is the one to talk about.
The return of the icon. I love this car. But I love the 458 italia as well. And to say that the Brits didn't borrow a bit of styling it well...not completely honest. Still, I love the fore and aft on this car and I would definitely purchase one depending on the performance specs. Welcome back Esprit! You've been missed.
jhoops....lotus knows what they are doing, there handling is perhaps the best over the years with the Esprit line, money troubles have always hit them hard, but they are doing great now.
WOW so this is aimed squarely at the 458 and the MP4-12c. I love it but it doesn't have that Lotus feel to me, this Espirit like they said is to italian!
NOT what I wanted it to look like-I was hoping it would have the huge air scoop just behind the doors from top to bottom-like the white one in the road&track rendition. I guess it looks good though.
This would be even better if it had the Yamaha built V10 from the LFA; but then again it would have less power so that wouldn't make a whole lot of sense. I guess this engine's fine, I'm just glad Lotus has started making good looking cars again. 458 is still my car to have right above the Gallardo LP560-4 but this is right up there. The F430 I mean MP4-12c is not on there at all.
@Janusha They did but I doubt they will now. It wouldn't make sense for them financially. It would cost a lot more to build a fleet of Esprit's with custom V10 engines rather than supercharged V8's; plus, the V8's are more efficient, more powerful, and more torquey.
OK let's get to the point. I'm 6'3 so will I fit into this? Because if I can't I'm going to be really pissed! I've had to miss out on all the other Lotus cars because they were built for midgets and I really want the new Esprit. So Lotus DON'T LET ME DOWN!
@TheRiseagainstfan My point is they should at least offer a manual transmission as an option. you know for ppl who know how to drive,,,,, like real men
Love it. Absolutely. Thank you Lotus for getting back into the true sports car game. Enough of the ugly, 4 cylinder tin cans we've all become so accustomed to. Now, where's Bentley at? Let's see some proper sports cars from them rather than these ugly, Hollywood princess-mobiles.
@chandy1000, better looking and more affordable than a lambo ^^, im getting one of these after college

Well, the lineup is filling nicely...
In the First Row we have the Corvette ZR1 and the McLaren MP4-12C
In the Second Row we have the Audi R8 and the Lotus Espirit (hopefully)
In the Third Row we have the Ferrari 458 Italia and the Porsche 911 Turbo
In the Fourth Row we have the Lamborghini Gallardo and the Acura/Honda NSX (2013) (if they make it as shown at the auto show)
Pick your poison!
