Brava, Evangelia! You did a marvelous job with this song. I've performed this song myself for over 10 years and I never tire of it. I had NO idea that there were those additional verses (Sir Frank and Alfred). Can't wait to add those in for next time! :)
I have heard this version done in so many ways and so many speeds but this is my favorite, the original. On itunes, most of the versions are jazzy, but there's an Ella Fitzgerald version that is wonderful. The version above is wonderful thanks to the chanteusse. Not my favorite show, 'A Ct Yankee' (although major Yankee fan) but was cute. Film with Crosby would have been nothing without Rhonda Fleming, so gorgeous. I am in my 20's and should not know this, but do. Love the classics. Mazel Tov!
As the person who actually put this concert together, I feel compelled to respond. You may only have known the song in some other form, but what you are seeing/hearing here is the ORIGINAL version (with original orchestrations) as it was performed in the musical A CONNECTICUT YANKEE. It was the last song that Rodgers & Hart wrote together (and the last lyric that Lorenz Hart wrote before his untimely death), and is widely considered a masterpiece. And Ms. Kingsley sings it brilliantly.
Ron, I had no idea you were involved in putting this together. You did a GREAT job in doing so! Ms, Kingsley's version of this song is just perfect. The first time I heard the song was in a Special Program in which Elaine Stritch sang it. I thought that was great but this tops it!
By the way, I'd suggest that people look up your own performance of "Those Were The Good Old Days" from Damn Yankees. That, too is a classic!
This is one of the most clever songs ever written. Ms. Kingsley does a splendid rendition of this comic masterpiece. Check out the original disc version by Vivian Segal. Great job, Evangelia!!

@insanecaine Absolutely! Which I think is the most important technical aspect of this song.

Larry Hart could sure write them. Pity about his sad short life though. Nice version.

Here are more verses (not in order):
Sir Charles came from a sanatorium
And yelled for drinks in my emporium
I mixed one drink -- he's in memoriam
To keep my love alive.
Sir Athelstane indulged in fratricide;
He killed his dad and that was patricide.
One night I stabbed him at my mattress side
To keep my love alive, to keep my love alive.
MORE TO COME!
ecc810 2 years ago
Sir Frank brought ladies to my palaces.
I poured a mickey in their chalices.
While paralyzed they got paralysis
To keep my love alive.
Sir Alfred worshipped falconry;
He used to hunt at will.
I sent him on a hunting trip.
They're hunting for him still.

Soo weird. I only know this as a jazz song and it sounds really unsuitable in this genre.

Winderful version of an old tune with that certain little touch of happy evil it needs to pull it off.

Her performance is great, as I mentioned below. but I have a question. With her last silent mouth gesture, is she saying, the F word?

He yelled at me in my emporium
Now he's living in memoriam
To keep my love alive
