I know that taxes account for allot of grants for scientific research, but the fact is that that research is still determined predominantly by private firms, so there is little difference really between the system we have now and one that's wholly privitized.
Actually, the government is a tool of corporate bodies to stifle smaller competition, and even bureaucracies tend to become little corporations fighting over tax moneys anyway, so what Palin thinks really changes little...

I was a nanny for a quaker family. THEY don't care much for money. They had NO tv in the house, no air conditioning, walked to work, walked to and from the market and the only reason they had heat in the house is because the winter days were 15 degrees. Trust me, it's misery.

The Crusades. The Crusades were not violent acts of aggression to convert muslims. It was to take back Christian land and protect Christians. The Muslims offered three choices, conversion, subjugation or death. The 11th century was extremely fierce with Muslim persecution of Christians. The chrch sent out Monks and missionaries NOT military men. You don't know shit about the Crusades. Islam was spread by the sword, Christianity was not.

Why the name calling? I've read history books that differ on their opinions of what exactly were the motives of the kings who came from England, Poland, the Germanic area, and France to protect pilgrims. The idea that they forsaked their homelands for pilgrims is quite an assumption on your part. You may be right indeed, but I just don't think it's quite as simple as you put it.
