Exactly astodroid001! Holmes has a black, dry humor, sometimes very biting, but always witty...whoever cast Downey Jr. hit the nail on the nail on the head - he's intelligent AND funny and can carry it off. One of this generation's GREAT actors in my opinion...

And to add, Jude Law was also in an episode of the '80s Granada "Sherlock Holmes" series starring Jeremy Brett. He played a... very interesting role, and he was VERY young. What a contrast between that series and THIS.

I'm curious if the people criticizing the preview have read much of the Holmes stories or not? Granted much of this isn't the traditional way he's been portrayed on film Holmes was very strange, quirky and a fighter.

I don't see how any of this is out of character for him.

Nothing said by either of the characters really matches their style; the demeanor so far is very different, as well. RDJ doesn't even physically or audibly resemble any description of Holmes, either, which is kind of disorienting for me. But it's TRYING to be different, so oh well, whatever. I'm personally looking forward to the Sacha Baron Cohen/Will Ferrell flick, hah! Sounds beautiful.

A found a few things to sound very much like the way Holmes worded things, didn't get enough of Watson to judge.

I'll grant that they don't match the physical description very well, insofar as Holmes being older than Watson. That's the only "gripe" I can see being sound, but it will be minor if the rest is done well.

And yes, anything with SBC and Ferrell will be amazing!

who wants to spend 2 hours watching Sherlock Holmes deduce who the criminal and where to find him from his house, people want to see him fight and blow shit up and say witty lines, and run and get shot at and make us laugh, if you want to be bored then read the books.

At first I laughed ...and then I just felt appalled. They've turned the genius master sleuth, of Baker Street into an arrogant overacting idiot. Who consorts with prostitutes. This trailer will only appeal to the uneducated or those with no other viewing chose. An insult to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's sterling efforts.

Of course the film could be brilliant and the trailer merely a mis-advertisement... but I doubt it.
