Would it be possible to make an AUS 8 version of this knife, bring the price down to about 100 dollars or less and still offer the same cutting ability? If so, I would buy it right away!
@skullstabber9 that would depend how far you bent it LOL. The important thing is that it will flex and not snap, that way in a truly dire situation you still have a functional knife if your life depends on it
reading the top comments made me realize a trend going on. lynn c thomson, president of cold steel and les de asis, president of benchmade are both round fellows and both are responsible for some of the baddest ass knives on the planet.. i guess i need to start making knives.
@TactiDude16 Well, at least we agree that he's a dipshit. But you are confused apparently. If you care what that dipshit thinks, that makes you a dipshit, not me....just saying, haha.
@Stryker1501 actually it is not illegal if you are doing so in self defense. And a knife is just a tool it is the person behind the blade that gives it intent. I would take this knife out hunting with me just as soon as i would carry it for defensive purposes. However, with a mind as closed as yours appears to be, im sure every thing is a weapon
@moshpitmachine i didn't mean these should be banned, and no, I'm not closed minded. I SAID that these would be good killing tools, but killing someone would be illegal. Then i said, such a waste. Tell me if you need me to evaluate my message even further .
I got my quarterly bonus a few weeks ago, and thought "what the hell, I got a little extra cash" so I bought this knife. Folks, you cannot believe it till you have one in your hand. The balance is perfect. the edge is sharper than I thought possible. It is so comfortable to hold. Every millimeter is flawless. Can't wait to take it hunting. Very nice blade!
That is one badass blade. I don't know what the price is yet, I will find out when I leave here, but I would love to own this. Some of the cuts he made were very impressive. Unlike a sword, or machette, you get no machanical advantage because of the short length. So, to cut a slab of meat that cleanly and quickly is a testiment to the blade. And the bending demo, most blades would have snapped @ 45 degrees or less.

@csknives Your knives are mostly pretty cool, but personally i hate rubber handles, it makes it look quite bland, nice blades though, and i laughed when you said "life long martial artist" that gives the notion that he gets exercise, im sure hes chopped a few things with knives, but that does not count in my definition of martial artist, Or even exercise,... Tell him to lower the price of these knives, then i will contemplate purchasing one. =D
@MrGlazed He trains 6 days a week with some of the world's top fighters and martial artists. He trains empty hand (boxing, muay thai, savate, Filipino boxing, BJJ, shooto amongst others) as well as with weapons and has done for many years. He might not fit your ideal of the body shape of a martial artist but I assure you he can fight. Try doing some training of your own and learn some respect instead of judging people by their looks and making yourself look ignorant
@csknives more like he gets his pop tarts and watches MMA on Tv, did he tell you he trained? oho, hey man look at your bedroom window, someone wrote gullible on it. ;[
@MrGlazed You don't get it do you? I work for the company and I see him train every single day. Come along to our event (The Cold Steel Challenge) at the end of the year and run your mouth. Back up your brag or go away.
@MrGlazed wow obvious troll really is obvious. seriously dude maybe if you worked more on actual fighting skill and spent less time in your mothers basement perfecting your leet speak and internet tough guy routine you may be able to stand in the same ring with this guy. other wise your just some punk ass loser who will never back up his tough talk.
@MrGlazed Well, fat guys aren't tough to beat in combat, eh? I sure would pay a hundred dollars to see you fight against him... anyone's bringing pop-corn?
2:17 Ever notice that they rarely show the knife bend back? I understand that they show it to demonstrate that it won't snap but id like to know that it won't end up as a U.
nice knife but I never get why CS make such a big deal out of how far they can bend the blade. yeah I guess their steel is durable but there's gotta be a hardness trade off. Wd D2 or even 154CM bend that far? probably not, but they'd also hold an edge for a lot longer
@jonoderidder Fighting knives need prefference of toughness over edge retention. It needs it's edge long enough to cut a few people up and not break under the stresses of combat. A well made, chromium knife steel could hold up but why risk it? There is also the cost factor. Give me cheap 1060 over D2 for battle any day.
@mojothemigo completely disagree. true for a survival blade being used with high frequency for utility tasks on cordage, wood, prying etc. but a fighting knife gets used extremely rarely, and must perform instantly. you want something that you can sharpen, leave it in the sheath for 5 years and know that when you pull it out the edge is still a razor. ie a preference for edge retention over toughness
@jonoderidder I see your point, but I have heard of blades snapping inside of people. You don't need something as tough as 1060, but a stainless blade with very high carbon like in D2 or 154CM would make me very nervouse in a dagger. Daggers take a great deal of torking stresses when prying around inside of flesh. I've seen D2 baton through wood, hit rock by accident, and not chip but lateral stresses can be a real bitch on a blade
@mojothemigo matter of opinion of course. but mine is, if you wreck a fighting knife by, god forbid, it snapping off inside someone, in my view it will almost certainly have done its job! and given that that "its job" results in saving your life, i wouldn't be complaining about the cost of having to replace the blade...
These cutting videos are cool and all, but i would believe them more if a 5 foot 95 pound lady could do everything they say the knife can do. They are still a lot of fun to watch.
I will constitute my own extreme BadAss army and I will choose this to one of weapons in operation to my special soldiers because this is perfect Close combat weapons.
I think people miss the point with the meat demos. These are big slabs of meat that are suppose to represent a human appendage, but good luck finding someone who will hold their arm or leg out and have someone snipe it with a sharp blade. So to simulate it, he uses a cardboad picture with human vitals and beef to test the accuracy and the sharpness of the blade. Just because they cant afford the same expertise and equipment they have on deadliest warrior doesnt mean it isnt as legit
@TheSatanikOrder666 Exactly. I think they should get some of those ballistic gel bodies and parts like they have in the show Deadliest Warrior. That would be sweet. Really show you what would happen with flesh and bone.
1:42 if he would cut me like that, i probably take one step behind and dodge. but if the fatguy would move his ass closer to me, then such a long timing cut would be finished with a nasty kotegaeshi with fat ass laying on floor.
also just watch how he puts all his weight on the knife while cutting, that kind of cut is almost impossible in cqb.
but as always on internet- i'm only a YT user and i may be wrong...
@cieslachaosu that is the Ceo of cold steel Lyn Thompson. The guy is one of the better knife and hand to hand and self defenseguys in the US, there is a reason he has so many products based troward self defense. so go ahead and attack the so caled "fatguy" I sure as hell wouldn't
Have you ever tried to cut a rope with a knife? Lynn C. Thompson definitely knows what he does. Besides, he has some thirty years of experience in knife fighting. Speaking hypothetically, as guys like you always do - after all you are possibly a teeny couch potato - if you tried to finish him off with a "nasty kotegaeshi", he would wipe the floor with your arse.
actually my arse is not teen for some years. of course you're right, he's possibly one of the most rope killing machines in the world. there's many knife fighters with 30yr experience, but they're usually less fat, than that one, so they are possibly faster.
Speaking hypothetically, as guys like you always do - after all you are possibly not reading a comment till the end, i wrote that i may be wrong cause i'm only an YT user.
@WindWolfAlpha Hey, things could be worse than having Lynn Thompson as Santa. There's a lot of stuff he sells, that I'd like under my Xmas tree this year...
@americanmade32 I agree about buying Case knives (Kershaw I can take or leave) but some of Cold Steel'ls knives are made in Japan and they take their knivemaking (even the factory knifemaking) very seriously over there. Knives from Japan are stellar in quality, even the lower end ones. But the chinese knives are pretty crappy.
cant idiots stop insulting them and focus on the items? Seriously thies guys are geniuses in weapon smithing and all you people can do is talk about what they look like? I for one dont give a damn what they look like, and can respect someone for there magnificent craft and say god bless cold steel. And to all you other idiots, keep the comments to yourself huh?
ps- bought your ti-lite 6', my new favorite knife and i hope to get a tai pan sometime. Keep up the awesome work guys!
@avhousebitch boy my comment just went in one of your ears and out the other huh? Comment back when you manage to get your I.Q higher then bean dip ok?
@jack688 im just saying those guys are not exactly representitive of the people who would "actually" have a use for most of thier products. IE military, police, martial artists.
@avhousebitch people who are fat cannot be police, military or martial artiests? Im fat and dig row upon row of potatos in the hot summer sun every year, just because im fat dosent mean im lazy or out of shape, i come from a family of large people. Im also a blacksmith, a knife thrower, and somewhat of a combat trainee with many styles of weaponry. So that blows your idea all to hell, plus, there are many videos of lindsay doing training and such, he is a vary skilled fighter.
@avhousebitch and proud of it :D. Nothing wrong with it, just a bit harder to find clothing that fits comfortably, other then that im happy with how i look. Thats the problem with people like you. You try to make us bigger people feel low for how we are with no justifiable reason behind it. Give me 3 good reasons why being fat is wrong in your opinion and garenteed i will be able to justify all of them with logical reasons as to why they are false.
@jack688 I am actually enjoying this quite a bit just to let you know and not in an argumentitve way. First reason, Drain on the Health Care System. Oh right, you americans would spend trillions of killing people over seas then providing universal health care for your own. So i guess that one is ruled out. 2nd, 30,000 kids starve to death everyday, not that there is much a you can do about that, but next time your eating more then you need you might want to think about that. 3rd, you're fat...
@avhousebitch Ok your making this too easy for me, oh and im canadian, not american. First, how dose being fat drain on health care? We get free health care over here and i already said, im perfectly healthy, my blood pressure is normal, my stamina is average, and i can do all the tasks i am asked to do on a daily basis. Second, how dose me being fat kill 30,000 kids every day? I know skinny people who eat thrice as much as me. You might be shocked to know i dont eat alot.
@jack688 also, your last statment of "...your fat" dosent strengthen your argument in the least. Being fat or skinny dosent matter. Fat people can be fit, and skinny people can be out of shape. It depends on what you do that keeps you healthy, not your size or weight.
@avhousebitch Look, honestly i dont want to make waves. Think we can agree to disagree on the subject of fat vs skinny? You seem like a decent enough guy and i dont want to give or get the wrong impression threw our debate, so how about a truce? I can admit that fat isent the most healthy lifestyle, but it also can be with hard work, such as my case and lindasy's, fair enough assessment?
@jack688 haha the subject isnt fat vs skinny. its cold steel rediculous marketing. most of these knife reviews show aspects of a knife, that either can be done by any sharpened piece of steel or are completely inappropriate for its uses. I dont care if my SRK can stab through a boot or cut a piece of meat. I want to see it baton, chop, cut cordage, bend etc etc. you are sensitive about your weight, not me
@avhousebitch Im not sensitive about my weight. Honestly, your last comment has completely changed my view on you seeming like a decent guy. I offered you a truce and you spat it back in my face and once again insulted a great company with no real backbone to your arguments. Have you ever bought a cold steel knife before? Or is this all purely opinion based on what you see? Because i assure you, cold steel is no minor league company, top notch work and materials in there blades.
@americanmade32 just because a knife is made overseas doesnt mean its crap. il admit that cold steel knives are overpriced. but they are good knives. Kabar makes knives for the military and some of those are made overseas and are far from crap. some models of Buck knives are also made overseas. companies like Spyderco, Boker and Victorinox. are overseas companies and they made excellent knives.
Very fast and extremely well balanced , though the black bear attracted me more with the sub hilt . lighter front and more piercing power...Different way of feel and think if to fight with.
The one annoying thing about Cold Steel is that they have the voice over intro and then they have another entirely unnecessary one right after it. What a waste of time.
Good review. I plan to get a Tai Pan. Have you seen the "Joker Special Huge Green Micarta Dagger - CM-10"? If not, Google World Knives Ltd. and click on "Daggers". The workmanship is excellent!
little tired of these smartass kids commenting on every cold steel video. believe it or not, most of their products are practical, even if their promo vids are hyped up and somewhat rediculous.
i like how you guys used a glove full of meat. when i am in a knife fite i realy like to go for the hands and fingers some may say thats a stupid thing to do in a knife fite but i say well be do what i feel, effective mr.Thompson you are a great inspiration and rollmodel.
you well meet me when my line of gear come out when im grown up im 16, i want my line to be known as ect 'east coast tactial" i realy like knives but i realy want to get into making tactial hawks. thank you for reading this..
@itsthelolocaust ya a long long time ago i caught santa and slit his face along his beard line so now he always has a beard to cover it up but he attaced me with one of these
aghhhh..... its aus 8a....... really expensive for such a shitty steel. seriously. aus 8a can sharpen easily and get a nice edge but dulls really easy.....
I believe i stumbled upon and bought a counterfeit of this knife here in sweden. It was put on sale as ´´cold steel taipan factory second´´ by a swedish knifesite i have purchased from before, saw directly that it was a fake. This version had a black blade, black pommel and guard and the sheath was leather although the knife vas secured by a velcrostrap. The knife was also blunt but the tip was sharp. But i didn´t buy it to use it and it was no big deal either xD (300crowns= 42$)
ok never visiting this part of youtube again im bouta have knightmares of my fingers gettin cut off.

(And this is coming from a combat veteran)
WikkedTrewth 1 year ago 6
@cieslachaosu
SchmuckoGrande 1 year ago
@SchmuckoGrande
actually my arse is not teen for some years. of course you're right, he's possibly one of the most rope killing machines in the world. there's many knife fighters with 30yr experience, but they're usually less fat, than that one, so they are possibly faster.
Speaking hypothetically, as guys like you always do - after all you are possibly not reading a comment till the end, i wrote that i may be wrong cause i'm only an YT user.

Comment back when you manage to get your I.Q higher then bean dip ok?
jack688 1 year ago
@jack688 im just saying those guys are not exactly representitive of the people who would "actually" have a use for most of thier products. IE military, police, martial artists.
avhousebitch 1 year ago
@avhousebitch people who are fat cannot be police, military or martial artiests? Im fat and dig row upon row of potatos in the hot summer sun every year, just because im fat dosent mean im lazy or out of shape, i come from a family of large people. Im also a blacksmith, a knife thrower, and somewhat of a combat trainee with many styles of weaponry. So that blows your idea all to hell, plus, there are many videos of lindsay doing training and such, he is a vary skilled fighter.
jack688 1 year ago
@jack688 had an inkling you were fat.
avhousebitch 1 year ago
@avhousebitch and proud of it :D. Nothing wrong with it, just a bit harder to find clothing that fits comfortably, other then that im happy with how i look. Thats the problem with people like you. You try to make us bigger people feel low for how we are with no justifiable reason behind it. Give me 3 good reasons why being fat is wrong in your opinion and garenteed i will be able to justify all of them with logical reasons as to why they are false.
jack688 1 year ago
@jack688 I am actually enjoying this quite a bit just to let you know and not in an argumentitve way. First reason, Drain on the Health Care System. Oh right, you americans would spend trillions of killing people over seas then providing universal health care for your own. So i guess that one is ruled out. 2nd, 30,000 kids starve to death everyday, not that there is much a you can do about that, but next time your eating more then you need you might want to think about that. 3rd, you're fat...
avhousebitch 1 year ago
@avhousebitch Ok your making this too easy for me, oh and im canadian, not american. First, how dose being fat drain on health care? We get free health care over here and i already said, im perfectly healthy, my blood pressure is normal, my stamina is average, and i can do all the tasks i am asked to do on a daily basis. Second, how dose me being fat kill 30,000 kids every day? I know skinny people who eat thrice as much as me. You might be shocked to know i dont eat alot.
jack688 1 year ago
@jack688 also, your last statment of "...your fat" dosent strengthen your argument in the least. Being fat or skinny dosent matter. Fat people can be fit, and skinny people can be out of shape. It depends on what you do that keeps you healthy, not your size or weight.
jack688 1 year ago
@jack688 where you from in Canada?
avhousebitch 1 year ago
@avhousebitch New Brunswick, lived here all my life.
jack688 1 year ago
@jack688 nice my whole family is from there. now that your canadian it changes everything. lol
avhousebitch 1 year ago
@avhousebitch Look, honestly i dont want to make waves. Think we can agree to disagree on the subject of fat vs skinny? You seem like a decent enough guy and i dont want to give or get the wrong impression threw our debate, so how about a truce? I can admit that fat isent the most healthy lifestyle, but it also can be with hard work, such as my case and lindasy's, fair enough assessment?
jack688 1 year ago
@jack688 haha the subject isnt fat vs skinny. its cold steel rediculous marketing. most of these knife reviews show aspects of a knife, that either can be done by any sharpened piece of steel or are completely inappropriate for its uses. I dont care if my SRK can stab through a boot or cut a piece of meat. I want to see it baton, chop, cut cordage, bend etc etc. you are sensitive about your weight, not me
avhousebitch 1 year ago
