When a game says it needs a video card with 1GB of RAM does it mean in total available graphics memory or in dedicated video memory?

@MTheGrimZ there are two types of graphics memory, shared and dedicated. Shared is no way near as good as dedicated, so it means dedicated. a 1Gb shared memory graphics card is a pile of shizzle!

not possible!!!.mine lag like hell on medium or high setting and i have never attempted to try on max setting coz its just pointless

i have the same laptop but with 3 gigs ram, and 2.5 ghz core 2 duo.

I used to play with Extra texture resolution, High Normal and Spec map with no fps lag

Now, when I try to play it with the same settings, I get unbereable lag. No settings have changed, no internet changed. Defragged, optimized, but same thing. Do you have a solution?

@gowrobc hey im the same dude as justradeit, this is my other account, no the 8400m gt is not as good as the 8600m gt, so call of duty will run, but not that well. go on save on laptops.co.uk and buy a laptop from there, and use notebookcheck (google it)to compare graphic cards!

dont see how that works on max setting, i got 2.5ghz, 4gb ram, same vid card,and a 500gb drive. my shit will barely run it on low.

@agoodcookie101 The settings are all mostly on max, except for anti aliasing, which is at 2x, its enough. Shadows and Specular map are on, they drop frame rate to about 30fps, without them its 40fps at 1680 x 1050p. Texture settings are on Extra for Texture Resolution, Normal for Normal Map, and Low for Specular Map. The last two setting have hardly any noticeable difference so I keep them normal/low. In fact I dont notice any difference in low and extra setting in specular map.

@agoodcookie101 This laptop has 3GB DDR3 not DDR2, maybe that helps as shared memory, also the graphics card is overclocked meaning it performs 20-30% faster than the original factor setting, so it gives an extra 10-15 fps!! If you want to speed up your up let me know.

@justtradeit yea but overclocking has some bad longterm effects. Its great for shorterm u can do mad shit without having to worry about game lag and having a slow computer. but it fucks it up later. I have Dell XPS M1530 320gig drive 4gigs of ram intel core 2 duo 2.2ghz and i think 500mb of Geforce 8600
