I would agree with deadlyshott, Our lives with God are primarily about being, not doing. If we BE who God wants us to be, by spending lotsa of time in His prescence (being obsessed with Him) we will become who He wants us to BE and then, naturally, easily and as part of that nature we will DO the right things such as feeding the hungry and healing the sick. The right relationship with God is the path to good works, not the other way round.

I have an answer to that argument, actually, if I may butt in.
You are very right. There is the story of a man/god dying and rising from the dead in many cultures. So we start out with all these vague stories of a risen man/god, and then, one day, it actually happens. For the first time, the man/god has a name, and lives in a certain time, during the reign of a certain person. The legends all focus into truth. So that's how I see it. Thanks for giving an intelligent argument. They're rare.

What makes Christianity the "one"? Like I said, they've all been relatively the same, and like all the other ones, it's slowly but surely falling out of favor (And sadly enough it's Scientology taking it's place). There haven't been any "miracles" for more then a thousand years, which lends to my theory that if there was anything resembling a miracle, it was quite likely that some ahead-of-their-time con artists pulled some magic tricks.

There actually have been a significant number of miracles that have taken place in this day and age - blind people gaining sight, paralised people being able to walk, limbs growing back and people raised from the dead etc. One such person who has performed a number of miracles is Reinhard Bonnke. It has been seen and documented by thousands of people in his crusades including those who didn't even believe in God - either being agnostic or atheist. Research him and you'll see.

Yes, people have regained the use of paralzyed limbs, but it's through determination and phisiotherapy, not religion. I knew somebody who was blind in one eye, but fell down and hit the back of their head on a coffee table and regained their sight through sheer luck (And they weren't religious).
Yeah, limbs grow back. If you an amphibian, that is. There have been abosolutely no documented cases of limbs growing back, although thanks to modren scince we can graft them back on.

Just because you may not believe that these miracles have happened or believe in such miracles yourself does not mean that it hasn't happened. If you research Reinhard Bonnke and Smith Wigglesworth you'll find that some of these miracles have been documented - including limbs growing back. But I'm not here to argue I just wanted to get a point across that supernatural miracles have taken place - whether you believe it or not. Alot of people's lives have been changed.

I'm sorry for your loss. Sometimes belief in God can be a great comfort for those who have lost someone. Certain beliefs say that when your loved one dies they pass on to a life in heaven where you will join them one day. I've heard pastors say that true happiness is knowing that you are going to heaven. The thought that an all-powerful, all-knowing being cares enough for you to die for you is pretty fulfilling.

I would agree with deadlyshott, Our lives with God are primarily about being, not doing. If we BE who God wants us to be, by spending lotsa of time in His prescence (being obsessed with Him) we will become who He wants us to BE and then, naturally, easily and as part of that nature we will DO the right things such as feeding the hungry and healing the sick. The right relationship with God is the path to good works, not the other way round.
