I feel like a moment like this needs to happen in a movie. Someone falls from the flying DeLorean for whatever dramatic reason, and unable to go fast enogh to catch them, you travel in back in time, mid flight, a few seconds to a point where you are below the falling person and are able to catch them.

Of course then you would pull up and not splat against an aircraft carrier launch deck.

It hit the ground with the bottom facing the bottom, see it turn to a normal like angle and the energy from the fall released all the enegry required for time travel in a bad way. Think of when you drop a ball, it is force down by gravity, now do the same with a frozen wet ball. Well the frozen wet ball in this case is the Delorean. The BTTF PT. 3 death by train was a mere collsion, like when they test a cars airbags by crashing them.
